The Magnificent Son-in-law

Chapter 21: The Death Cell

Due to Miao Youmin's instigation and Xiao Feng's refusal to speak in the interrogation room, by the afternoon, Xiao Feng was sent to Jiangcheng Prison.

This was obviously against procedure, as sending someone directly to prison without the verdict was missing many necessary steps.

Led by the police, Xiao Feng arrived at Jiangcheng Prison, still appearing calm and composed as he got off the vehicle.

"What kind of person is that guy exactly?" the police left in the car discussed, "He doesn't look like someone going to jail, more like going on a vacation."

"We better stay out of this. First, the new director personally interrogates him, then the deputy director personally adjudicates. It's clearly not a simple matter."

"What's the harm in chatting? Look beyond appearances to see the essence. Do you think the new director and the deputy director are secretly competing through this incident?"

The police were buzzing with speculation about why Xiao Feng was so different.

Meanwhile, inside the prison, Xiao Feng instantly became the center of attention.

It was understandable because who has ever seen a prisoner without prison uniform, without handcuffs or shackles?

"From today on, this is your room. Go in," the prison guard directed Xiao Feng to a cell.

The cell was small but tidy; Xiao Feng looked around and nodded with satisfaction, "It's a single room, not bad."

The prison guard was stunned for a moment, thinking this guy might be crazy?

Already put in prison and still has the mood to say that?

However, thinking he might not see him tomorrow, the guard said nothing more, locked the cell door and left.

At this moment, Xiao Feng clearly noticed that people in the opposite cell were looking at him oddly, and it didn't seem to be because of his unusual attire.

Moreover, recalling carefully, it seemed like when he stepped into this cell, the reactions of others in the prison were unusually erratic.

"What's with the way you're looking at me?" Xiao Feng approached the barred door and spoke towards the opposite cell.

The five inmates on the opposite side glanced at each other and then moved away from the door as if avoiding a plague.

Xiao Feng felt a bit displeased, daring to ignore his question. Did these people decide not to live well?

Even though there were two doors and a corridor between them, Xiao Feng could still easily mess with the people across if he wanted to.

At this moment, an old man with a hunched back approached the door, "Young man, some things are better left unknown."

"What do you mean by that?" Xiao Feng asked in confusion.

The old man just shook his head, sighed, and walked away.

Xiao Feng immediately sensed something was off, quickly called out to the old man, and asked, "Old man, I've been brave since I was a kid, just say whatever you have to say."

The inmate opposite spoke in an odd tone, "Not telling you is for your own good. If we tell you, don't pee your pants."

Someone beside him chuckled, "Why bother telling someone who's about to die, it's pointless."

"Don't you know interrupting people is rude?" Xiao Feng's eyes turned cold, "Today, if you can't give me an answer from A to Z, be prepared to have your life messed up."

The five on the opposite side were shocked, feeling a chill run up their spines to their necks under the cold words.

It was like hearing an imperial edict, completely leaving no room for resistance.

After a while, the elder on the opposite side spoke first, "Young man, actually it doesn't matter if I tell you. No one who has entered your cell has ever been seen the next day."

"That's right." The inmate next to the elder added, "Usually they're put in during the day, and by the next morning, they're gone. We're close by and have seen it with our own eyes. Those brought in during the day are carried out. From the look of it, they're most likely dead."

Xiao Feng frowned; it sounded like a plot from a horror movie, he thought and asked, "So, are you saying that once I enter this cell, it's impossible to come out alive?"

The five opposites didn't answer but clearly had no objections to Xiao Feng's question.

Through this conversation, Xiao Feng understood why the reactions of other inmates were abnormal when he entered this cell.

"Were the people who previously entered this cell killed by prison guards?" Xiao Feng asked, believing his guess was likely correct, since only the prison guards had the keys.

However, the elder shook his head in denial, "No, we didn't dare to look before, but it's said the first person to enter the cell was a robust man, about two meters tall, with a burly build, and a cross-shaped scar on his face."

Xiao Feng was stunned, finding the elder's earlier description amusing until the details about the cross-shaped scar overlapped with someone he remembered.

Having learned the situation, Xiao Feng lay down on the bed in the corner, quietly waiting for night to fall.

At this point, it was clear that it wasn't just Zhou Dong involved, and there must be someone even more capable pulling strings behind the scenes.

As for who that might be, Xiao Feng could almost guess without thinking. Aside from Shen Tianze, there was no one else who'd want to kill him urgently.

When the lights-out signal blared, the circuits to all cells were cut, plunging them into darkness.

However, tonight none of the prisoners were sleeping; everyone had their ears pricked up waiting for something, whispering in hushed tones.

"Do you think that kid locked in the death cell will still be there the next day?"

"Isn't that obvious? If that kid is still seen the next day, would the death cell still be called the death cell?"

"Sigh, another sleepless night. Every time someone is in the death cell, it makes people anxious. Who knows when this will end?"

As soon as the words fell, heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor.

"Thud, thud, thud..."

Each step seemed to press on everyone's heart, making it hard to breathe.

Some timid individuals even buried their heads under their blankets.

The cell where Xiao Feng was held was known as the death cell, and the owner of those footsteps was the most dreaded executioner.

Because whenever this executioner struck, no one ever heard the cries of the death cell's inmates.

Xiao Feng opened his eyes, a dangerous smile on his lips, wondering expectantly if the person coming in might be someone he knew.

"Click, click, click."

The sound of the door lock turning was heard, and Ye Yingfan looked over to see a particularly burly man entering, with two crossed scars on his right cheek, arranged in a cross.

Such a face appeared particularly terrifying in the dark.

But as the robust man entered the cell and saw Xiao Feng lying on the bed, his eyes suddenly flashed with surprise, "Big brother?!"
