Chapter 21: After all, it's the same field
“I'm Kunon Gurion. Thank you for taking the time to see me today.”
He was a small gentleman, bowing respectfully.
He may be blind, but he is a man of noble birth and education.
“I’m Leisha. I am a new royal court magician.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lady Leisha.”
After briefly introducing themselves to each other, Leisha turned her attention to Arson.
“Lord Gurion, I’ve come to take care of Kunon. I’m taking him to the Black Tower if that’s all right with you?”
“Yes. Please take care of my son.”
Arson will be taken to a room in the royal castle, while Kunon will be taken to the Black Tower…… a building isolated from the castle, where the royal court magicians work.
“So, Kunon, if it’ s going to be late, you can come back with me. …… Oh, by the way, you’ re having dinner with Her Highness Milica today, right?”
“Yes. I have a reservation at the restaurant where father dropped mother.”
“Yeah, okay, that’s enough! Have fun!”
He’s just too embarrassed to be talking about his marriage memories in a place like this.
Arson said, “Please take care of my son.”, bowing once more to Leisha and walking quickly to the royal castle.
“Kunon, we better go too.”
“Yes, see you later.”
After saying that to the Gurion family servant, Kunon and Leisha began to move as well.
“Kunon. Are your feet okay?”
Kunon walked beside Leisha and followed her without a care in the world.
“No problem. I’m weak on small stones and steps, but I’m fine on flat surfaces, especially indoors.”
Although they took a different route than Arson, Kunon and Leisha also entered the royal castle.
The Black Tower is located far from the castle.
However, it seemed that from the previous location, they would have to take a large detour around the castle, and it would be faster to go through it.
“So why don’t you ask me while we walk?”
“The essence of a sorcerer? Are you going to teach me that right away?”
“Oh…… I’m still too new to teach you the essence.”
“So you want a new interpretation of the heraldic quartet of magicians? Ah, if only I could figure out how to apply the old interpretation to the new one!? That’s amazing! That’s typical Master Leisha!”
He is so advanced that it is hard to believe he is a child.
At this point, I understood why a child who hadn’t even been to a magic school yet was begging for a royal court magician as a mentor.
And I could tell how much enthusiasm and passion he had.
The only thing left to do was to find out if he was good enough to be liked by all the masters – but first, let’s see.
“I’m sorry, this isn’t a sorcerer related topic.”
“…… Oh, sure.”
He was obviously disappointed.
He knows that.
Leisha also understands.
I wish I could talk about magic all the time instead of this boring stuff. I want to spend all my time studying magic without being bothered by it. I want to know everything about Kunon’s original magic.
However, I must tell you.
“Milica asked me to tell you. She asked me to take care of you.”
“Her Highness Milica?”
He was obviously interested.
I’m very glad that those two are so close.
“I don’t think you’re interested in it at all, but you should know that.
Every generation in the Kingdom of Huglia has its own inheritance conflict. We’re in the middle of one right now.”
The king of Huglia has had many children over the generations.
This is because royalty has a high probability of awakening as sorcerers.
Right now, the king has seventeen children.
The percentage of girls seems to be high, with seven princes and ten princesses.
Of these, three have awakened as sorcerers.
The second princess, the third princess, and the fourth prince.
The second princess, Leisha, decided to live as a sorceress and renounced her right to the throne. Since then, she has been working as a royal court sorceress.
Although she still has the royal register, she is no longer involved in the struggle for the throne.
The problem was the third princess and the fourth prince.
“As you probably know, the crown prince is always the first prince. But we can’t be so sure. The kingdom of Huglia is very much a meritocracy, so depending on performance and achievements, the candidates for the crown prince …… and the next king may be replaced from time to time."
The question is, what are the achievements and accomplishments?
"To be honest, the princes and princesses who want to be next in line for the throne want to have a good sorcerer on their side. It’s about performance and achievement.
Milica was worried that you might get caught up in that kind of – what the hell was that!?”
As I gave him a tedious explanation, I looked at Kunon – he was moving quickly.
I’m sure I wasn’t walking right now.
I definitely wasn’t walking right now.
I was not walking – I was just moving quickly.
“What?”
“What are you doing? I was watching you! -Oh, that! That’s it!”
After all, he’s moving quickly. He’s moving as if he’s sliding on the ice.
“Oh, this? I'm on a water ball a-ori with an ice sled attached. Spread it thinly on the soles of your shoes…”
I don’t understand the logic behind it.
“The trick is to let it float a bit. If you put all your weight on it, friction will occur and it won’t slide well.”
If you don’t understand the logic, there’s no way you can understand the tips.
“Why don’t you try it, Master Leisha? It’s fun. It’s easy.”
” I’ll do it! – No, wait! We need to talk first!”
Leisha is also a magician.
How could I not be curious when I was shown a magic I had never seen or heard of?
It’s not that I’m not interested.
Kunon has already attracted Leisha’s interest and attention, whether it’s the water cat from earlier or the one that’s gliding right now.
But that’s why.
“I’ll wrap things up now! Just don’t bypass me and don’t belong to any faction or team! I’ll guard you as much as I can but be careful what you say and do! You don’t want to get in trouble for saying something, and you don’t want to sign any papers! Do you understand? You get it, right? Then let me slide, too!”
Although her speech was a bit choppy and fast because of the new magic she was about to experience, Leisha fulfilled the task of warning that Milica had asked her to do.
In the end, it was up to Leisha to protect Kunon from the contact of the ambitious people.
The new magic was more important.
That was the priority for now.
By noon, the sight of a royal court magician and a child sliding down the corridors of the castle, and the commotion of soldiers and knights chasing them, had become the talk of the castle.
Needless to say, Arson had his head in his hands.
