The Magician Kunon Sees Everything

Chapter 17: A Good Time

“…..She’s gone.”

“I guess so.”

Genie, the tutor who I had thought was going to quit, really quit.

Kunon was sad, but he was prepared for it, as he had seen signs of it many times before.

He knew that this day might come.

“Well, I suppose it had to be done.”

As you can imagine, it was an important matter for the Gurion family to decide whether to quit or not, so even the blunt maid did not say anything.

She did not say a word, but only watched as Genie announced her quitting and Kunon stopped her.

Genie then left, leaving only Kunon, his maidservant, and a number of water animals that Kunon had made standing in the garden.

“I’ve heard that Genie was a good magician for Kunon, who had just awakened as a magician.

I heard she was in the middle of the pack at magic school.”

“I heard that.”

In other words, she had only mediocre skills as a magician.

She could teach a beginner, but it must have been tough to teach a more advanced person.

I’ve seen her say and do things that sound like she’s straining himself.

“But I still would have preferred Genie.”

“Did you really mean it? You said you liked Genier’s tricks.”

“I meant it. That’s truly from my heart.”

Kunon looked around at the water animals with his invisible eyes.

“I’m sure you’ll agree that if you can keep up teaching small tricks for more than a year, you’ve got it down pat.

If it’s something that’s normally taught, you can learn it from a book, and other teachers can do it too. But I think only Genie could have done that crazy teaching style.

I think that was really fitting for me. I really mean it.”

For more than a year, I’ve been following Genie’s little tricks to get in touch with magic. I’m sure I’ve done things I didn’t need to do.

Thanks to this, I’ve been able to do things with an unusual degree of dexterity.

I am sure that Kunon’s wishes cannot be fulfilled in a normal way.

That’s why I think the past two years of doing unusual things that normal magicians wouldn’t normally do were a very precious time.

I don’t think it was a waste of time at all.

I just…

“I’m going to miss her. I’ve lost someone regrettable.”

“It’s like she’s dead when you say it like that.”

I’m going to miss someone I know and care about.

It’s just sad.

“Speaking of which, Iko and Flora are quitting, aren’t they?”

“Or rather, they already left.”

“What? I didn’t even get to say goodbye to them.”

“I’m sure the Master will tell you about it soon, but I’ll go ahead and tell you first. Lady Flora told Master that she was probably going to cry when she met Kunon-sama to say goodbye.”

Baroness Flora Garden was the tutor who had taught Kunon what he would learn at the noble school.

However, the other day Kunon took his promotion exam and graduated, so he no longer needed to sit for classes.

I heard that she can also teach at the advanced noble school, but Kunon, who will not inherit the Gurion family, doesn’t need those classes either.

“Oh well. I think I’ll send her a farewell letter.”

“I’m sure he’ll be pleased. And while you’re at it, why don’t you ask the garden baronet if he has any well-paid, tall, good-looking male servants between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five?”

“Iko’s marriage partner?”

“Yes.”

“You’re leaving me to marry a baronial servant?”

“It’s hard for me to leave you, master Kunon. But I want to get married. Besides, you can manage on your own, can’t you?”

“No, I can’t. Genie and Ms.Flora have quit,   I can’t stand it if Iko will be gone too. Do you know? There is a superstition that rabbits die when they are lonely.”

“I guess you’ll be okay if it’s a superstition.”

“I guess so. If I were a rabbit, I wouldn’t die if I was lonely because it's a superstition. But I’m me, so I’ll die if I’m lonely.”

“Haha, funny joke. It’s cold. Let’s have tea in your room.”

“Yeah.”

“You’ll have to write to me.”

“I don’t want to do that.”

It was not Genie, but it was certainly an opportunity.

With his diploma from the noble school in hand, he felt that his life had closed a chapter.

The tutor would be gone, and Kunon’s daily life would be a little different.

The classroom and magic classes had been taking up almost all of his mornings, so he would have a full day free.

Kunon wanted to take advantage of this and devote all of his free time to research and reading, but he was also concerned about what Genie had said earlier:

—Get a better magician as your teacher.

Time is limited.

You can read books and do research as much as you want when you’re alone, but you can’t train with a teacher all the time.

For Kunon, the best magician is Genie.

But that’s not to say that he’s not interested in other magicians.

Unknown stimuli.

Knowledge in a field that he had never been exposed to before.

Experience is what nine-year-old Kunon lacks by far.

By making friends with the tutors, Kunon learned a lot of things that had nothing to do with the class, but he believes that they were not in vain.

Kunon was sure that he wouldn’t be able to reach his ambitions if he just worked alone and quietly.

His knowledge, experience, and magic skills were all still lacking.

–Perhaps a new master of magic is what Kunon needs to get closer to his ambitions.

“What do you think, Iko?”

Kunon stopped reading my book and asked the maidservant who was waiting in the same room.

“It is well known that the royal sorcerer Zeonly Finrole is a man of great beauty!Let’s talk to the master about having Zeonly as a mentor right now. Now, now!”

The reply came back quite quickly and with a lot of enthusiasm.

“Mr.Zeonly, huh. But I’d prefer a female teacher.”

“No need to be extravagant. He’s a royal court magician.”

“I’m sure there are female royal court magicians.”

“I’m going to tell Her Highness, Princess Milica, that Kunon has chosen a female sorceress with a very ulterior motive.”

“That’s not good. But I’m sure there are grandma magicians.”

“Grandma! Old woman is still a woman! I don’t remember raising Kunon-sama to be a prick who treats women differently based on their age!”

“Yes, you’re right. …… I was wrong. Yes, even a grandma is a woman. You never know what’s going to happen with men and women.”

What could possibly exist between a nine-year-old boy and an old woman was a mystery, but Kunon was deeply convinced.

“In the meantime, I’ll talk to your father about the new magician.”

When there are encounters, there are also partings.

When he graduated from school, his tutor quit.

However, this could also be an opportunity for a new encounter.
