Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Solar Eclipse
Telepathic magic—commonly referred to as secret voice transmission—is a subtle yet powerful tool.
In Fairy Tail, one wizard adept in its use was Wallian, whose mastery allowed for intelligence gathering, tactical coordination, and even the invention of magical communication devices like small mobile phones. Inspired by Wallian's innovation, Kira had studied this magic intensely, eventually integrating it into his repertoire.
….Three Minutes Ago
"Winter, I'll need to borrow your water magic soon," Kira's voice echoed in Winter's mind, startling her.
She instinctively scanned her surroundings, but it was clear that Kira was communicating telepathically.
"This is how it works," Kira continued.
Winter hesitated, unsure of what to do. "Will it help?"
"Only if we act convincingly. Follow my lead!"
….
The battlefield was chaos. As Ace's icy form began to crumble under Kira's relentless magma assault, Winter acted as instructed. She summoned a torrent of water, saturating the ground and sweeping across the area. Kira silently layered his magic into the water, creating a devastating synergy.
The combined magic stripped away the snow that had accumulated over centuries, leaving behind barren, jagged rocks. The area around Ace was drained of moisture, forcing him to struggle with what little water remained to reform his shattered body.
The Ice Demon stumbled to his knees, his breathing labored. His once overwhelming magical aura was now a faint echo of its former self.
"What's happening?!" Ace muttered, his voice trembling. "How is my magic fading so quickly?"
Unbeknownst to him, Kira had slipped a key ingredient into his attacks—a Demon-Sealing Potion.
The Demon-Sealing Potion was a creation of Kira's experiments, distilled from trace elements of magic-sealing stones. It was a colorless, odorless substance designed to suppress magic power subtly yet effectively.
First, Kira used fire magic to evaporate the potion into an invisible mist, surrounding Ace and forcing him to inhale it.
Second, he embedded shards of magic-sealing stone within the magma he hurled, creating an anti-magic zone wherever they landed.
Finally, he enlisted Winter's help. The water she controlled was infused with the potion, ensuring that every drop Ace absorbed further sapped his strength.
As Ace attempted to regain his form, the potion's effects became evident. His magic faltered, and his transformation into elemental ice became unstable.
"No... this isn't possible..." Ace gasped, his voice betraying his desperation.
Winter's eyes widened as she saw the plan taking effect. "It's working! His magic is almost gone!"
"Good!" Kira seized the opportunity, raising his hands. "Chain Bondage!"
The charred rocks beneath Ace's feet rose and twisted into chains, wrapping around his weakened form.
These chains, formed from the remnants of magma and magic-sealing stone, acted as enchanted restraints. For a moment, it seemed like the battle was over.
But a hundred-year-old demon doesn't fall so easily. Just as the chains tightened, Ace sensed the danger and leapt away, narrowly evading capture. He landed near the massive ice sculpture of the Sea Demon King.
"What now?" Kira called out, his tone laced with mockery. "Still clinging to that overgrown popsicle? Are you really so desperate to protect your so-called 'master'?"
Ace ignored the taunts, his gaze fixed on the frozen figure.
Kira frowned, piecing together the puzzle. "Wait... The Moon Drops... Where are they? Why haven't they been used yet?"
His eyes darted to the darkening sky. The solar eclipse was beginning, casting a shadow over Zonia.
Kira unleashed a fiery explosion, targeting the ice sculpture to confirm his suspicions.
"Fireball! Fire Explosion!"
A massive fireball streaked toward the sculpture but was intercepted by an icy barrier conjured by Ace. The fireball froze solid and shattered upon hitting the ground.
Ace's defensive reaction only deepened Kira's suspicions. "Why block my attack? Absolute freezing can't be broken by regular magic... unless..."
Kira's thoughts raced.
The missing Moon Drops.
The demon's exhaustion.
The solar eclipse's perfect timing.
Finally, the pieces clicked into place.
"The absolute freezing was already broken!" Kira realized aloud.
Just as Kira came to this realization, the sky darkened completely. The solar eclipse had reached its peak, plunging the battlefield into eerie twilight.
Ace began to laugh, his voice carrying an unhinged edge.
"Yes... YES! It's time!" He turned to the ice sculpture, his eyes gleaming with madness. "Become my power, Sea Demon King! Grant me your strength!"
Winter took a step back, her face pale. "What's he doing? I thought the plan was to break the seal and revive the demon..."
Kira gritted his teeth. "No, it was never about reviving the Sea Demon King. It's about stealing its power!"
As Ace extended his hands toward the frozen figure, the truth became clear.
For decades, Ace had lied to his comrades, leading them to believe they were working toward the Sea Demon King's resurrection. In reality, Ace had already broken the absolute freezing seal and was siphoning the demon's power for himself.
The solar eclipse wasn't a tool for resurrection—it was a catalyst to amplify his absorption of the Sea Demon King's magic.
"That conniving bastard," Kira muttered. "He used everyone... even his own kind."
Winter clenched her fists. "We can't let him succeed!"
"Agreed," Kira said, raising his hand. "Time to end this once and for all."
As Ace's aura grew darker and more menacing, Kira prepared his final attack. The solar eclipse marked the climax of Ace's plan, but it would also signal his downfall.
The battle was far from over.
