Chapter 23: A deal
In a substantial black robe that clearly belonged to Nikolai, Ophelia emerged from the bathroom. She had anticipated it being hefty, but it was actually quite comfortable.
She smiled as she came upon a black shirt and red pants that was perfectly folded on the bed. Nikolai was very attentive.
She changed into the clothes and sat on the edge of the bed, teasing her hair until it was ruffled.
As she closed her eyes, she saw Nikolai. His once-crimson eyes had gone entirely black, resembling those of a demon. Her eyes snapped wide as she gasped.
"What was that all about?" Slowly, she questioned, resting her fingertips on her lips unconsciously. His eyes had an uncanny resemblance to demons'. Despite feeling faint last night, she was certain it wasn't an illusion because she had perfect eye sight.
Nikolai had a demon hovering over him, his eyes... He didn't appear to get along with his parents, could teleport, and more. She was really inquisitive about him because he was now tremendously fascinating.
She shared a connection with an enigmatic entity. The idea that he belonged to her made her almost smile.
"Life has never been kind to me." She tsked and got to her feet while extending her arms.
When the door abruptly opened, Nikolai stepped through it with a chilly, expressionless face. However, as soon as his eyes met hers, though, his face lightened and an odd smile broke out on his lips.
He said, "You look good Fire Storm," and she rolled her eyes, dropping her arms.
"I am aware." She deadpanned.
"I see." He took long, nonchalant strides towards her while widening his smile, and then stood in front of her as usual, towering over her.
"What are you?" Ophelia asked right away, her serious face showing that she was seeking an immediate response.
"Someone you should fall for." He teased.
"Lai Lai!" She raised her voice and his smile vanished.
Was she really going to keep referring to him in that way? He observed her fixating her stare on him. She appeared as though she was going to slap him. He appreciated that she was violent in her ways, but he didn't want her to be dark like him.
"I am a pure-blooded lycan whose blood has been tainted by a high class demon."
Ophelia was utterly taken aback by his abrupt statement, which came across as incredibly blunt.
"What?"
"You are the only one who is deaf here."
"Nikolai," she seethed.
"Do you believe I'm telling lies? You should be appreciative that I told you this. Mother and perhaps father are the only people who are aware of it." His lips danced a mocking smile. She exuded such gravity and authority. He might get used to it.
Ophelia couldn't believe him. He was smiling at such revelation. It wasn't possible was it?
"You possess the blood of a demon. Is that the reason you can teleport?" When she questioned gently, he cocked his head to the side and regarded her as though she were the most priceless thing in the world.
She immediately took note that it was accurate, yet it still left some things unanswered. He was more than that.
"You want to know so much about me."
"Don't humor yourself."
Nikolai grinned heartily. Her apparent interest in him made his heart thump with ease. When she gave him that angry, glaring look, he only wanted to push her against the bed or possibly the wall, depending on the position she preferred.
"I can only reveal a small amount to you; otherwise, you will flee from me, and I wouldn't like that." He said.
Ophelia raised a brow and blinked at him. "Do you believe I'll remain here?" With utter skepticism, she questioned and said, "I am leaving."
Once more, Nikolai chuckled, but this time it was sinister, shiver-inducing, and delivered a full force of horror to her nervous system. His look was not at all cheerful; rather, it was tinged with a feeling she was unable to identify.
She moved away from him as soon as goosebumps sprung out of her skin, only for him to grab her by the wrist.
"You won't leave, I'll hunt you down, and if you deny me, I won't hurt you; I'll never do that, but I'll lock you up in my sight," His voice was low and threatening, and his glare was hot and searing. He was indeed nuts.
"You're going to start a war," Ophelia tried not to stutter.
"You are my mine, and even if you flee from me to the ends of this world, I will find you."
"You will destroy our lives; we aren't meant to be together."
"It is clear from your words that you feel our connection."
"I..."
"Are you only leaving out of fear of starting a war?"
"I have no fear of anything."
"You will remain with me and be pronounced dead to your people."
"No." Ophelia couldn't believe him. He was acting extremely obsessive.
"Not pronnouced dead. You will just never return there."
"Stop this!"
Nikolai squeezed her wrist more firmly while saying, "Fire storm."
Ophelia was astounded that she did not experience pain, but rather an electric heating sensation in her body.
"Are you going to hurt me?"
"Only if you want me to."
"Nikolai!"
"Don't you want to know the depth of our bond? Don't you want to know why, as soon as I was let out of the portal prison after three hundred years, your father despatched you to kill me? Are you not curious as to why there are gods and goddesses around our necks?" While asking her those questions, Nikolai let go of her wrist and fixed his gaze on her intently.
Ophelia was out of breath. She clasped her wrist while giving him a startled look. To what extent did he know her? Did he say Nexus?
"Nexus?" She asked.
"Don't ask."
Ophelia decided to drop that. His questions... She wanted to know the answers, but a huge part of her wanted to know how deep their bond was rather than why her father sent her to murder him in such a rash way.
She cradled her arm and lowered her gaze. "I still do not see any reason."
"Don't deny." Nikolai gave out a menacing smirk as his lips twisted. To have her, he had to trap her. She was simply too tenacious, very intelligent, and didn't think naively at all, but he could still dominate her thoughts. Yes. He had planned to erect a cage and confine her there, but he didn't want to go very far. But he still wanted to go through with it. A private cage for his exclusive observation.
When she raised her head, her big hazel-gray eyes swiftly changed into their keen golden reptile-like appearance. "I'll remain for a bit, but we have to make a deal."
"Oh?" His eyes glimmered with mirth.
"I'm permitted to be free in the castle and not kept in a cage like a bird. Also, I'll stay in this room."
Nikolai was surprised and enthusiastically extended his hand towards her, only to have her swat his massive arm away.
"Deal approved." Nikolai chuckled and stuffed his rejected hand into his pocket.
Ophelia stared at him with narrowed eyes, hoping she wasn't doing something disastrous. She was aware of it. She was in a foreign place, and the only person she could rely on was the deranged being in front of her. If he couldn't trust his own people, how could she? It was the reason she desired to remain in his room.
He said, "Fire storm," and he pressed his face against hers.
"What?"
"We will behave like a married couple."
His comments caused Ophelia's eyes to flicker, and she immediately pressed her hands into his chest to shoo him away. However, she immediately tensed when he brushed her nose with his, sending a spark of heat into her.
Nikolai's lips quirked as he noticed her frozen expression. She was just too cute.
Suddenly her stomach grumbled loudly, jolting her out of her thoughts and she abruptly stepped away from him, blinking quickly as her face turned crimson.
"I am hungry." She managed to say.
"Let's have a lavishing breakfast shall we?" Nikolai mused.
Ophelia frustratedly stared at him. "Don't make me regret this."
"You will." Nikolai deadpanned and she glared menacingly at him.
