The Lost heir of somewhere unknown

Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Dukunu

"Hi, um, sorry to bother you, I was just wondering if you had talked to Liah like I asked you to?" David asks when Jody opens her front door. "David hi, um, yeah, I did." "Well it seems to have had the opposite effect, she has now asked me to give her some space." "Oh?" "Yeah, she said she needs time to sort through some issues and get her life back on track." He snorts.

"Well, that's what she said, I think it has a lot to do with that man in her house." "How long ago did she ask for space?" "Three days ago, why?" "Have you seen her since then?" "No, and she isn't taking my calls." "Then maybe you don't know this but, some men broke into her house two nights ago...." "What! Are they alright?

"Yeah, they're all okay, shaken up, but okay." "Thank God, I mean, she seemed determined to push me out of her life, so I'm not surprised she didn't tell me, plus, she has her knight in shining armor to protect her so it's not like she needs me. I used to think that our love could survive anything but I guess I was wrong. It couldn't even survive him. What happened to her at Razor's house wasn't what destroyed us, she decided to end what we had. She ended our relationship because of that, man." He took a deep breath and shook himself.

"Anyway, thank you for telling me, and thanks for trying to get through to her, I'll see you around." With a heartbroken expression on his face, he turns and walks away.

"Mama? What are you doing here? Are you alright? Liah asks taking a seat next to her mother in the canteen. "I'm alright, I just brought you a piece of Dukunu and I need to talk to you away from the house. I swear to you, that man has the exceptional hearing of a bat." "That he does, what do you want to talk about?" "Well, David called me yesterday saying he heard about the break-in, he wanted to know if we were okay. He also said that the reason he hasn't been around much was because you ask him for space and he thinks it has something to do with Moses." Her mother let out a worried sigh.

"Is that true Liah? Are you pushing David aside because you think you have a future with Moses? And if so, are you sure you want to give up sure for unsure? David is a God-fearing upstanding man Liah, as for Moses, we still have no clue as to who this man really is. I mean look at how he handled the situation with the break-in, who in their right mind could remain that calm and composed in a situation such as that? There's something very scary about that man and I would hope that I have raised you with enough sense to choose your paths carefully."

"I should've known that David would run to you. He visited Jody and pleaded his case to her as well, yes, you did raise me with enough sense, so trust that I know what I'm doing, and yes, I know Moses is still a mystery to all of us but I'm hoping time will change that. Now, do I have romantic feelings for Moses? Yes, not that I've acted on them." She quickly lies noticing her mother's scowl.

"Whether or not we have a future together, we won't know until he regains his memories but with all due respect Moses is not the reason I asked David for space." Liah sighs again. "I just need a little time to think, yes, things would've been different if the Razor situation hadn't happened but it did, and now his family no longer thinks that I'm good enough for him, which in my opinion shouldn't matter because none of what happens was my fault." Liah huffs then continues.

"Which leads me to wonder if they had really accepted me, to begin with, and if they did, then why was it so easy for them to turn their backs on me?" "I know what you mean. I tried talking to his mother at church the other day and I could see the disgust on her face when she talked about what you must've gone through in that house."

"Exactly, that's the same disgust I saw on David's face when I returned home. He treated me as if I had a disease. I felt so hurt and ashamed, I expected so much more from him but he let me down. He avoided me like the plague, he hardly called, using work as an excuse and whenever he did come over, he treated me like I was contagious and now because he has decided to make amends I should just forget how he and his family has been treating me and just pick up where we left off? Let it all go and move on.

Well sorry, I can't. I need to be sure about a few things before I decide to move forward with him, and..... wait....what the hell.....? Are those gunshots?" Liah shrieked in panic as more shots rang out followed by people screaming.

"Jesus...Liah...there is a gunman in the hospital!" Her mother shouts as they run from the table and behind the serving counter. "Hey you, come with me!" A man shouts running over to them and grabbing her mother by her hand. "I was hired by your brother to protect you, move! Go through there." He orders pushing them through a door.

"Wait, my best friend is still in there!" Liah shouts. "I'll get you to safety then go back for her, now move!" They went through another door ran down a passage and exited through a back door. The man was ushering them towards his vehicle when she heard Anthony's voice calling her. They stopped as he ran over to them. "What's going on?" he demands.

"There's an active shooter in the hospital, I've already called for backup." The man explained. A second later two cars speed into the parking lot and four men jumped from each. "I'll take my mother and sister home, you men get in there and handle the situation." Anthony orders.

"Get in." Liah and her mother hurriedly got into the car, Anthony jumped in around the steering wheel, fastened his seat belt, and sped out of the parking lot and down the road.

"I'll come by later." Was all he said before driving away from the gate. Liah and her mother enter the living room where Michael is doing push-ups, with Zoey lying on his back, her back to his. "Mama, look, Moses can lift me." She squealed kicking her legs in the air.

As he straightened his arms he glanced up at her, then paused when he noticed how shaken up she and her mother seemed. "Zoey, could you get up please." "Sure." She giggles hopping off his back. "What happened?" He asks approaching them, her mother takes a deep shaky breath and is about to answer but the ringing of his phone stops her.

Zoey?" He calls holding out his hand. Zoey hurries over to his phone, grabs it, and runs over to him placing it in his hand.

"Yes?" "Hey, there was a shooting at the hospital. Protect my family, alright." "I will," Michael's eyes locked with Liah's as he ends the call. "Come and sit. Tell me what happened." His voice was gentle but firm. "Ma...Mama and I were talking and then we heard gunshots, a man Anthony hired to protect me dragged us out of there but Jody was still at the hospital, I just left her there. What kind of friend am I? I just left her, I'm trying to call her but she isn't picking up, what if.....? Liah cries.

"Shh, there was not much you could've done in that moment to help her, relax and take deep breaths." He got up and moved away from her while dialing Anthony's number. "Yeah, everything alright over there?" Anthony ask. "Things are fine here, contact me the moment you have any information on Jody." Michael orders before ending the call.

"Here, you're both in shock, drink some sweet sugar and water." Zoey holds the cups out to Liah and her mother. "No, don't drink that." Michael walks over and taking the cups from Zoey, places them on a table. "Why?" Zoey asks confused. "Sweet liquid has no positive effect on someone suffering from shock." "How would you know?" Zoey asks hands on her small hips.

"I don't know, how I know, I just do. Instead, you both need to take deep breaths and allow your heart beats return to normal, then you may drink some plain water." His phone rings and he pauses to answer it.

"Yes?" He listens for a few seconds before ending the call again. "I'm sorry, but Jody was shot in her shoulder, she's now in surgery. Anthony says she will be okay and the shooter is dead." He explains in a soothing tone.

"Oh God, poor Jody, I can't believe I just left her there." Liah sobs covering her face with her hands.

Half an hour later Liah was lying on the sofa when she saw her mother heading towards the front door. "Mama?" She bolts upright. "Where are you going?" she asks, her voice shaking.

"David is at the gate, he just wants to make sure we're all okay." Her mother then continues on her way. A few minutes later David ran into the house. "Christ, you have dogs now?" He asks panting. "Are you alright?" He asks hurrying over to her.

"I'll be okay, what are you doing here?" She asks her tone dry and void of emotions. "I was worried sick when I heard about the shooting. I heard Jody was shot. Joseph is at the hospital with her right now, thank God you're alright." He sighed heavily and then glared at Michael.

"This's all your fault." He sneers at Michael who is sitting on a chair not far from them. "Word on the street is that men from the other side are looking for you. They know you have a connection with Liah, so now they want to use her as bait to draw you out from where you're hiding." David growls.

"Nonsense," Liah snaps. "Anthony is one of Razor's right-hand man. The other side blames Razor for what happened to their boss, so to get revenge they're going after Razor's gang member's family, whether or not Moses is here, we would all still be in danger, more danger actually if he wasn't here."

"I have an aunt in St Ann, maybe you should go stay with her for a while until things cool down here," David suggests. "I'm not going anywhere, however,I think you should leave, it may not be safe for you to be here right now."

"Me? What about all of you?" "Moses will protect us." "Oh, of course, he will, alright if that's what you want, I'll leave, it's not like you will listen to me anyway, you all have blinders on when it comes to this man." Getting up he march towards the door. "David, wait," Liah calls. "What now?" David asks over his shoulder.

"Please can I have the key that Mama gave to you?" she asks holding out her hand. "Sure, take it." He took the key from his pocket and walking over to her placed it in her hands. "Just be careful out there, alright." He advised. "I will." "Zoey, could you please pass me from your dogs?" David asks. "Sure."

Michael glances at a sleeping Liah on the sofa as he dials Blade's number, Blade answers on the second ring. "I know I would be hearing from you after what happened at the hospital." Blade chuckles into the phone.

"You know that I can take care of myself, so why am I still here?" Michael asks. "I know you can hold your own against the bad guys, it's the good guys we have a problem with." "Meaning?"

"A few out-of-town cops are still milling around the community. Now, based on what the men from the other side told them and what the young ladies you rescued told them, they are not sure what to believe." Blade laugh.

"But on the other hand, if they get even the slightest clue that you actually exist, the only way we would be able to stop them from taking you into custody would be to kill them and dead cops are bad for business." "Meaning?" Michael asks again.

"Meaning, killing four of them would in turn bring four dozen of them back into our community, as I said, bad for business. Look man, we've been dealing with this shit long before you came here and we'll be dealing with it long after you're gone, so just sit tight a little longer, alright, we'll handle this."

"Two people were killed and Liah's friend was wounded, so how exactly are you, handling this?" Michael asks. "We can't prevent that, because we don't know when or where these ass-holes are going to pop up next, but when they do, we put them down, that's what, we do, so, as I said before, sit tight." Blade ends the call and Michael lets out a frustrated sigh.

Three days later Blade entered Razor's office with a bright smile on his face. "Mission accomplished, Boss." He gloats sitting in one of the chairs.

"What mission?"

"The leader of the other side is dead." Blade states.

"How?"

"Does the how, really matters?"

"Blade," Razor growls in a threatening tone.

"Alright, alright, lethal injection." Blade place the syringe on the desk as proof. "How did you get close enough to inject him?" "Well, my look out told me that they were taking him to have some test done, so while the doctor was selecting the floor and the guard was on his phone, I just walk pass bumped into one of them, stick him in the neck and continue on my way.

Now of course he began shouting that he was stick by someone, the guard tried to come after me but I turn over a supply cart, let's just say that I was long gone by the time they cleared a path for him." Blade laugh.

"A little risky, don't you think?" Razor asks in a cold tone.

"Well, it would've been a lot easier to take him out while on his way to the prison but because of how badly he was injured that wouldn't be for the next two weeks and you only gave me one week to accomplish this task, so, I had to improvised."

"You're sure the camera didn't pick up your face?" "I made sure it didn't." "And you're sure he's dead?" "Of that I'm sure. My look out confirmed it before I came in here." "Okay then, good job, we'll celebrate later." Razor smirk as Blade's phone rings and he answer it. "Yeah? What you got?" Blade asks, he then listen for a few minutes, his eyes widen as he looks at Razor.

"And you're sure about this?" Blade asks into the phone. "Holy fuck, alright, send me the proof." He ends the call and place his phone on the desk.

"What?" Razor asks narrowing his eyes at Blade.

"Boss, my men has finally come through, we know who Michael is."
