The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 280: March on Assam City (Part 4)

Although most of the Lizardmen didn't take this pleasantry seriously, Luo Yan wasn't lying to them.

After all, their days were already bad enough, like being in the center of a sinking basin where every direction was uphill.

All he had to do was lead them forward a little, completing this promise was a piece of cake…

At Ticky's Pirate Ship Tavern, the banquet lasted all night.

Even though the open-air tavern couldn't compare to the Embrace of Dawn on Queen Street in Thunder City, the sea breeze, roasted meat, and fine wine gave it a unique charm.

The Great Graveyard's rich material conditions opened a new world for the "Chieftains," as shocking as the Little Demons inadvertently flying to Queen Street and taking a peek.

The meals cooked by the Players not only filled their bellies but also completely dispelled their worries and apprehensions, making them pat their chests and promise to follow Lord Demon King's arrangements, to cultivate this barren land, striving for their clansmen to also live such heavenly—no, hellish good days soon.

In contrast to the revelry of banquet and indulgence by the many tribal chiefs, the nobles of the Holy Armor Dragon Kingdom were not so lucky.

Luo Yan prepared a banquet for them as well.

Only the glasses were filled not with fine wine but with Armored Dragon Clan's lizard blood.

As night fell, Assam, standing on the Holy Lake, was shrouded in heavy clouds.

The Holy King and the nobles atop the Dragon God Temple did not notice the impending misfortune; they were still immersed in the sacred and solemn ritual, trying to appease the Dragon God's wrath with the blood and flesh of slaves.

If three thousand sacrifices weren't enough, then another three thousand, even thirty thousand would do.

Historically, they had weathered natural disasters in this way, lasting until the end.

Of course.

Whether the sacrifices appeased the Dragon God's anger or the Dragon God simply cooled down over time, no one knew.

All Lizardmen were uneasy in their hearts, but they could only console themselves that even the Holy King wasn't anxious, so there was no reason to worry either.

The feathered priest waved the Lizardman bone totem; the Assistant Priests with painted faces beat the Lizard Skin Drums, singing ominous songs… or spells.

Holy King Iz sat expressionless on the Golden Throne, looking down at the priests' dance, slightly relaxing his tense nerves, and prayed to the Dragon God's celestial spirit.

Once the Great Barrier is activated—

Everything will be fine!

However, he didn't know that the Great Barrier had always been intact, even now.

But even the Dragon God didn't foresee that people from outside the barrier would sneak in through the Subspace passage.

In this solemn and sacred atmosphere, disaster suddenly descended, catching everyone by surprise.

Accompanied by a piercing screech, fiery light fell from the sky, instantly illuminating the night as if it were daytime!

"Boom boom boom—!"

Violent explosions wantonly erupted on the streets and squares of Assam City, waves of fire swept through like angry Dragon Breath, engulfing every building in the city.

The falling shells, like flying fish in the sky, rained down in rows, pouring out death!

In an instant, large areas of the city turned to scorched earth, granite smashed to pieces like broken tofu. Even the imposing Dragon God Temple was pockmarked with holes, statues shattered, candlesticks toppled!

The nightmare had only just begun!

Blazing flames soared into the sky, thick smoke rolled up to the heavens, and the scorching air almost evaporated the lake water outside the Holy City!

The explosions, cries, and screams blended into a cacophony… the once prosperous and arrogant Royal Capital turned into a veritable purgatory in an instant, unexpected and overwhelming for all!

The city's citizens trembled, kneeling in terror, calling out the Dragon God's name, believing they had angered their deity, and now faced divine wrath as punishment for their sins.

The warriors holding Obsidian Spears were the same; unable to muster any will to fight against the divine fire from above, only bewilderment and fear remained.

Sitting on the Golden Throne on the altar of the Dragon God Temple's spire, Holy King Iz was completely paralyzed with shock.

The thunderous explosions deprived him of his hearing; he could no longer hear the beat of the Lizard Skin Drums nor the chants of the priests.

The priests on the altar had ceased their sacrifices, looking helplessly at the devastation below the Pyramid.

Staring at the fiery, doomsday-like scene before him, Iz's throat felt blocked by a stone, struggling to speak, until he finally stammered out.

"What on earth is… this?"

No one answered.

The nobles beside him were speechless, and High Priest Zel was ashen-faced, his Magic Wand slipping from his grip, his eyes filled with resignation and confusion.

"Your Majesty, what… what should we do?" Finally, someone came to their senses, a noble adorned with gold ornaments screamed in sheer panic, looking fearfully at the Holy King.

All around, the nobles cast pleading looks at Iz; their usual arrogance and dignity were gone, leaving only panic and bewilderment.

Iz remained silent, staring intensely at the Royal Capital swallowed by flames, claws clenched tightly into fists, sharp scales nearly breaking the skin, a trickle of blood quietly dripping through the fingers.

At that moment, a messenger rushed onto the Royal Palace's high platform, shouting with a trembling voice.

"Your Majesty, this is terrible! A military force has appeared north of the city… their numbers are unknown and they are advancing toward Assam City!"

Holy King Iz shuddered, instantly sobering up, his slit pupils contracting with fear.

"What?!"

He quickly turned to face beyond the Holy Lake, seeing the billowing smoke on the horizon, like a black serpent slowly advancing, as if death's messenger was stepping into the heart of the Holy Armor Dragon Kingdom.

It was a signal fire lit by outposts!

And from the unbroken chain of smoke and flames, it was clear that this army coming from the Northern Coast was formidable and numerous!

"Quickly, quickly order… gather all soldiers to defend the gates!" Iz hoarsely shouted, leaping from the Golden Throne, pushing the dumbfounded generals, trying to salvage the already collapsing situation.

The nobles around the altar looked at each other, shivering, exchanging terrified glances, no one daring to step forward.

At this point, everyone knew that this city they once considered a symbol of glory had become a doom-filled cage.

Judgment had finally arrived.

And simultaneously, outside the Holy City.

An overwhelming army was crossing the warm lake water, marching toward the city walls in the lake.

Among them were the Undead, the Demons, Lizardmen, even non-carbon-based Stone Men… and many other bizarre Demons, though not numerous, exuded a murderous aura.

At the forefront of the formation, Luo Yan sat expressionlessly atop Alakdo, watching the burning Assam City.

The Shadow Demon General and the Thorny Demon General stood by his sides.

Bathed in the reflected light of the distant flames, Bransia admired her slender, delicate fingers and freshly done nails, yawning with boredom, and said to the Demon King beside her.

"Your Majesty, such a trivial matter involving mere insects shouldn't require your personal intervention. Please leave such matters to me next time."

She cast a disdainful glance at Thanos as she spoke, seemingly mocking him for his incompetence that required Lord Demon King to handle such trifling pests.

Thanos' eyebrows twitched in annoyance, glaring at the old lady, but since the Demon King was right next to them, he eventually swallowed his resentment.

"…They are, after all, the Dragon God's people. I do have some connections with that being, perhaps I can find something of interest on the altar."

As he spoke, Luo Yan drew out his slender Magic Wand, and with an expressionless wave of his hand.

"Enter the city."
