Chapter 202: The Hero and the Demon King's Joint Visit_2
The first hour, in particular, was even more unbearable for her than the physical training after practicing swordsmanship.
"We've met again, Mr. Colin. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." She playfully winked, elegantly yet tactfully reminding him of his lapse.
Gathering up the fleeting "impropriety," Luo Yan rose from the sofa and slightly nodded, a well-timed smile on his face.
"Waiting for you is my honor. Especially now... I feel so even more,"
Even when faced with Professor Lilith, he could remain calm, so he certainly couldn't be captured by this degree of "charm," displaying amazement and admiration was merely his courtesy.
Though he admitted that Erin Campbell was indeed beautiful, he was the Demon King.
"It seems I should take my leave," Andes rose from the sofa opposite, bowed slightly to them with a gentlemanly smile on his face, "I wish you both a pleasant journey and be careful on the way... I've heard there are signs of demonic activity in the Silver Pine Forest recently."
"Resolving the villagers' troubles is one of the purposes of my trip," Erin smiled calmly, her tone gentle, "If I truly encounter demons, I will not disgrace the mission bestowed upon me by the late King."
"I believe that, but please proceed with caution." Andes slightly nodded and then followed the Princess's trusted aides to escort them to the carriage.
At Erin's invitation, Luo Yan rode in the same carriage with her, while Punk drove along with the entourage.
Seeing the royal procession, Punk, although appearing calm on the surface, felt his heart pounding fiercely, and his palms gripping the reins were sweaty, both nervous and excited.
However, compared to a month ago, his performance had improved significantly; at least he no longer had weak knees upon seeing the Campbell family's crest.
The procession slowly left the manor, heading towards the city gate along the clean and tidy streets. Along the way, people watched them, offering respectful gazes, and some even stopped to remove their hats in salute.
In Thunder City, the prestige of the Campbell family was only second to that of Saint Sis herself, a status that neither Colin's name nor the Andes Family could match.
The guards at the city gate made way for the carriage, and the entourage soon entered the outskirts outside the north gate of Thunder City.
Seeing the newly renovated refugee camp, Erin's smile grew more content, her voice tender as she spoke.
"I still remember when I first passed by here, people didn't even have a decent tent, and now they finally have a home to shelter from the wind and rain."
Luo Yan: "This is a good start."
"Yes," Erin blinked, looking at Mr. Colin sitting opposite her, and continued, "Our work is not over yet. Next, I plan to gather the strong industrialists and merchants in the city for a meeting to discuss building an industrial park near the refugee camp."
"Thanks to Mr. Andes' help, the land ownership issues there have finally been resolved. If we can introduce industries like textiles, brick making, and basic metal processing, it could not only boost Thunder City's economy but also provide stable jobs for those who lost their homes, and contribute to the reconstruction of the Twilight Province in the Ryan Kingdom, which needs exactly what I'm suggesting... Sorry, would you find what I'm saying boring?"
"How could I?" Seeing Erin a bit anxious, Luo Yan smiled gently, "It's remarkable that you've thought of these things; I always believed such matters were for merchants to consider."
Erin smiled bashfully, a slight trace of pride in the upturned corners of her mouth.
"My brother and I share many similar ideas; we cannot always indulge in past glories. Although we don't know how to run a factory, fortunately, the Campbell Duchy has many talented people. As the rightful owners of this land, we should at least provide them an environment to accomplish things. Conveniently, these tasks are exactly what the refugees need... I think this is the duty Saint Sis bestowed upon the Campbell family."
Pausing, she continued.
"So far, we've only spent less than ten thousand gold coins, and with the remaining money, we can still accomplish much."
Her voice contained a bit of excitement, like a child who had achieved good marks but pretended to remain calm, yearning for praise from someone important to her while feigning indifference.
Frankly speaking, what she wished for compared to the sweat she had already shed wasn't much, and she did deserve some praise.
If there was a flaw, it was perhaps that she wasn't devious enough.
And as everyone knows, humans are creatures that often say one thing and mean another; although most would claim they long to befriend the pure and kind, their bodies and souls usually respond more honestly to the cunning, choosing the shrewder as their master.
"This is a remarkable enterprise, Your Highness." Luo Yan compliantly offered the compliment she anticipated, adding a kind reminder, "However, such important matters shouldn't be revealed to others in advance."
Erin smiled and replied.
"Would you betray me?"
"Of course not, but... I thought you would say I'm not others." Luo Yan displayed a melancholic expression.
Not others?
What does that mean?
Erin's cheeks quickly flushed red, but seeing Colin's seemingly "deeply hurt" appearance, she panicked, momentarily forgetting to question it.
