Chapter 160 Expensive Cost_3
Just when Xino was about to pull Luo Yan aside to say something, a Lizardman Monk suddenly walked over, bowed, and said respectfully:
"Venerated Lord Demon King, a new package has arrived from Demon City. Judging by the size of the package, it should contain some letters."
Luo Yan looked at the Lizardman Monk and said:
"Bring it here."
The Lizardman Monk nodded slightly and replied respectfully:
"Yes."
Watching the monk leave to fulfill the task, Xino Dragon tactfully remarked:
"It seems you have official matters to attend to. I won't disturb you any further."
Luo Yan smiled and nodded.
"If you have anything you need, come find me."
As Xino's figure disappeared into the distance, Luo Yan waited briefly. Soon, the monk returned and brought the package sent from Demon City over from the Transmission Room.
As the monk had guessed, the package contained mostly letters, alongside documents and contracts related to the transfer of land ownership.
Thankfully, Xino Dragon wasn't here.
If he had seen this land deed, who knows what he might have thought...
Youyou, floating beside Luo Yan, leaned over to inspect the land deed and murmured softly:
"Lord Demon King... Is it really appropriate to give them that notebook? Youyou keeps feeling that the contents of the notebook are quite valuable."
Luo Yan responded casually:
"It's not a big deal. Giving it to them saves them from obsessing over it and allows us to extract some benefits from them in return."
The notebook was a gift from the "Shadow Demon General" Thanos, the lord of the eighteenth level of the Maze and the Old Demon King Palace. It contained records of the various experiments conducted by Reggie Dragon in his territory, along with their research findings.
Including artificial miracles.
Including the creation of souls.
Just as Luo Yan had anticipated, the stone creatures on the fourth level of the Maze were indeed Reggie's creations!
Previously, Luo Yan had been puzzled as to why Reggie Dragon would engage in such activities, but after reading his notebook, he finally found the answer.
This guy was imitating Linte Isaac!
He was attempting to condense a Divine essence!
Upon realizing this, Luo Yan suddenly understood why Reggie Dragon had carried out so many seemingly unnecessary actions.
All that effort was to become a god!
Looking at it objectively, the former Demon King had some ingenuity, especially his research on souls, which amazed Luo Yan and garnered his respect.
From an academic perspective, even the principal Avin Krueger, whom Luo Yan knew, might find it difficult to surpass Reggie—despite the latter's Demigod-level power and millennia of experience.
However, it was regrettable that this man's efforts were fundamentally misguided—taking every correct step along the way, yet veering disastrously off-course in his overarching pursuit.
Although Luo Yan's own Divine essence had fallen into his hands by chance, his understanding of the Isaac Dynasty made it clear to him that the path to becoming a god was far from what Reggie Dragon imagined. Following Linte Isaac's exact steps would never replicate the outcome.
"...The key to becoming a god is not technique but philosophy. Reggie Dragon sought a path to divinity through the pursuit of Extraordinary Power, making his failure an almost inevitable outcome."
"Philosophy? What is that?" Youyou asked curiously.
Luo Yan thought for a moment and replied:
"My understanding is 'the human heart.'"
On the surface, Linte Isaac became the Mechanical God due to the steam engine, but in truth, his divinity didn't stem from those superficial inventions—it was born from the genuine reverence and worship he inspired in people's hearts at the time.
Even now, despite Saint Sis branding him with the label of "evil," the number of people who remember the Isaac Dynasty with nostalgia remains considerable.
Luo Yan paused briefly before continuing:
"Miracles seem to be created by the Divine, but ultimately, they come from humans. Reggie Dragon nearly replicated everything Linte Isaac did—perhaps even exceeded him in some ways—but he utterly neglected the most crucial and indispensable thing: the human heart. His troops on the battlefield were nothing but a disorganized rabble; not only did they lack faith in him, but they couldn't even maintain loyalty to the Demon God."
"If his descendants continue down his path, their only fate will be to fall into madness, just as he did."
