Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Visitor
Nevada Hills was one of the simplest towns to exist in the part of the world, rarely having any spectacular events, crime rates were minimal, and the people lived simple lives. The city was populated with a generous stretch of trees, flora and fauna. A cool and refreshing feeling was ever-present in this fair city, like gentle waves in a vast sea.
Nevada High was not particularly outstanding in terms of academic performance or social constructs. The students had their usual clichés of nerds, goths, popular kids, and the rest, each maintaining their separate and fragile existence. In essence, the school had a usually peaceful atmosphere so much so that bullies became a rare sight after the events of the last semester. The presence of a shifter in their midst has stirred up their lives in such minor yet noticeable ways…but that was the least to come for they had not just a shifter in their midst but a Wayne.
"Any plans for later Danny?" Collin joyfully chirped as they exited their classroom, finally done for the day much to the relief of a very hungry wolfing.
"Quit calling me Danny" Daniel replied, quite annoyed either in reaction to his hunger or maybe something else.
"If you keep making that kind of face, no way Amy's going to go out with you' Collin scoffed.
"Fine by me" Daniel shrugged, lengthening his stride. He arrived outside within moments, the sharp exposure to light causing him to squint his eyes for a moment but he squinted them again, this time dangerously as he gazed into the distance. Leaning against his bike was a voluptuous-looking lady.
Dressed in a simple pair of blue jeans, a white shirt, and a jean jacket, she seemed to blend seamlessly into the environment like she was always meant to be there and the entire place would be wrong without her. Her attractiveness spread like waves, encapsulating all those who gazed on her, radiating an irresistible charm of gentleness and a faint tinge of lust. She gazed in his direction, flashing a smile and apparently long anticipating his arrival.
*Whistle*
A wolf whistle sounding sharp in his ear drove him to gently turn to his side and naturally, the whistler was none other than Collin. While everyone was drawn to the painting-like scene before them, admiring the scene like peasants gazing upon royalty, the fellow brutishly ruined the scene by letting out a whistle so sharp it seemed to have woken up anyone within range. Several people shot deadly glares at Collin for ruining the moment but the guy was unfazed, he was confident none could do anything to him for he had the school's "baddest" by his side.
"Damn Danny that was the pretty lady I was talking about but she didn't look this hot yesterday, didn't know you had it in you. Compared to her, Amy does indeed fall short" Collin wrapped an arm around Daniel's shoulder, a sly look in his eyes. Daniel was about to unleash a bit of his rage upon this insolent human but someone beat him to it.
"Who falls a little short?' A feminine voice echoed, one that sent chills down Collin's spineand caused his face to drain of colour. He sharply turned to face said girl gazing at him with squinted eyes, a dangerous smile on her face.
"Oh Amy haha, didn't see you there" He chuckled nervously. "Don't know what you heard but it wasn't me that said it"
"Huhn huhn" She hummed, her gaze sending chills down his spine. She slightly turned her eyes to face Daniel. "You gonna hang him this time or should I?"
Daniel raised an eyebrow, his eyes glancing at the despair on Collin's face. He let out a smirk and headed towards his bike "He's all yours" Collin let out a sheepish grin as he glimpsed the evil smile on Amy's face.
The lady straightened herself, letting out a coy smile as Daniel got closer, her entire being oozed an irresistible charm and her eyes seemed to suck one's soul in.
"Who are you and what do you want?" Daniel emotionlessly stated, his eyes staring deep into hers and seemingly ignoring her charm. Everyone else saw an enchanting, irresistible lady but being who he was he could tell straight away she was no average human but a shifter.
She let out a smile. "I'm here simply to discuss something with you and I presume this place would be…inappropriate" Her sweet voice echoed in his ears, lowering his defenses for a moment. "I already made reservations" She gestured toward a black SUV parked a short distance away.
Daniel narrowed his eyes suspiciously but wasn't truly bothered, partially because he was confident in his own strength but more importantly his family name carried a lot of weight in their world. A world which had left him alone for the past five years, content with forgetting his existence as he left wounds even he doubted time and absence could heal because he knew for sure he hadn't recovered.
She stood silently awaiting Daniel's reply. Her eyes were impassive, but underneath a passion burned beneath. Daniel's presence in her plans had the potential to completely assure her victory which led her to take the risk of disturbing this slumbering beast.
"Alright, I'm hungry anyway" Daniel muttered, leisurely walking towards the SUV. The lady eyes lit up in anticipation and she tightly clenched her fists as she could see herself approaching her goal and everything depended on the youth's decision.
She swiftly followed after, her steps hurried yet steady. They soon reached the car, Daniel noted the presence of another shifter in the driver's seat though he still remained unfazed. The engine of the SUV hummed and in a short moment it was out of the school compound.
The entire scene left the whole school astonished, with many uttering curses at Daniel's luck. While many guessed Daniel had an unusual origin and most likely came from a rich background, very few could have pictured a lady even models would envy humbling herself so much before him. Women like that rarely lacked in pride, power and money and yet she lowered herself before a high school youth.
Amy had a thoughtful expression on her face not unlike Collin's all while viciously pinching Collin's ear. "I feel like such a fool" He sighed. "Me trying to set him up with a swan not knowing he already had a phoenix."
"Who are you calling a swan!?" Amy raged. She viciously pulled on his ear causing him to emit painful howls. "Do you think I'm beneath him or something"
"Not him, her" He hissed painfully. "And it's only an analogy anyway, no need to fuss so much. So could you please let go of my ear." He begged pitifully, his eyes nearly tearing up.
"Let the punk go Amy, not like you care about the dude anyway" Ian appeared out of nowhere, hands in his pocket and a teasing expression on his face. "Unless you do?" He raised a questioning eyebrow.
Amy scoffed, releasing Collin's ear. "Not even in his dreams" She huffed as she walked away.
"Hmm, I wonder what he dreams about? A silent farm maybe?" Ian pondered. He turned to gaze at the squirming youth beside him. "Oh and word of advice Garfield, don't butt into matters of women, you'll only end up the sacrificial meat"
"Noted" Collin whined in pain.
Ian nodded softly, at least he had some sense. His eyes thoughtfully followed the path the car took. Being the leader of a hunter squad wasn't by default but proof of his ability and his gut was telling him something was off about the lady from earlier and his mind drifted to a shocking possibility.
'Could it be her?' He pondered. 'If she is, then that Wayne kid won't be all that simple either'
He threw his thoughts to the back of his head as he slowly approached the Mustang. While they only took their normal phones to school, he had an inkling they would be a mission update and regardless of the outcome, he was looking forward to it.
