Chapter 146: The Disappearing Ronald
Although Dobby's method of helping was indeed a bit peculiar, even nearly getting Harry killed twice, Luke couldn't help but glance at Harry, who was drinking soup. He wondered if Harry had noticed the house-elf.
"By the way, who is this?" Harry raised his head and suddenly noticed a little witch with long blond hair sitting beside Hermione. She was wearing a robe with a blue base and a tie with a small eagle pattern. A Ravenclaw witch?
"Luna Lovegood, a little witch from Ravenclaw," Luke introduced.
"And who is this—"
"Harry Potter, the boy who lived," Luna interjected in her usual dreamy tone. "I saw you on the train once, when you were in a flying car with the red-haired wizard."
"Yes... is it?" Harry laughed dryly, looking a little embarrassed. How did everyone now know about him and Ronald?
He'd never forget the frenzy of the thirteen Whomping Willows and Snape's complicated eyes when the car crashed into the tree. After that incident, he never used the enchanted car again. It wasn't that he didn't want to use it; he just didn't dare.
"Have you found your car?" Hermione asked curiously. After all, Mrs. Weasley had sent quite the rant about it after it went missing. If it hadn't been for Luke 's spell, Ronald and Ginny would have had to leave Hogwarts by train that night.
"No!" Harry shook his head. Although he had thought about going to the Forbidden Forest to find the car, he hadn't yet.
"It's probably still roaming the forest somewhere," he added with a sigh.
Luna nodded thoughtfully. "The forest is full of all sorts of creatures. Maybe it's made some new friends."
Harry smiled at Luna's unique perspective, feeling a bit more at ease. The conversation shifted back to lighter topics, and the group continued their meal, enjoying the company of their friends.
But after the golden thunder a few days ago, the entire Forbidden Forest was sealed off, and even Hagrid and the cowardly Fang had moved out of the cabin at the entrance of the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid mentioned that Headmaster Dumbledore patrolled it every day.
"There must be some dangerous creature hiding in there!" Harry said with certainty.
Luke silently took a sip of milk tea. In a sense, he is indeed a dangerous creature.
After breakfast, Luke and the others waved goodbye to Luna. Today's class was Defense Against the Dark Arts, with Slytherin and Gryffindor together. Meanwhile, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff had a history of magic class together.
"It's Lockhart's class again," Hermione said listlessly. She didn't know what to do in Lockhart's class; it was always full of nonsense and never focused on the final exam topics. Miss Hermione didn't even know how to take notes.
Luke , who was next to her, remembered last night and the corners of his mouth twitched. He wondered if Lockhart was familiar with the reincarnated body of the dirt.
Inside the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, the three of them arrived relatively early and picked seats near the back wall. Harry stood up and looked around, searching for Ronald but couldn't find him.
"Ronald isn't in the classroom?"
"Don't worry, you can't lose him," Hermione said, looking at Harry with exasperation. Why was Harry always so anxious when he couldn't find Ronald?
"Is Ronald controlled by Tom again?" Luke squinted, thinking. If nothing else, Ronald should be in the basement now. It looks like I'll have to go to the basement tonight to settle the matter with Tom . The basilisk is now under my control, and he has no idea what Tom will do when he sees his basilisk.
The class bell rang.
Lockhart was conspicuously absent from the classroom, prompting Hermione to voice her frustration. "I don't understand why Headmaster Dumbledore hired such a professor!"
Luke , ever the calm one, replied, "Why worry? Maybe we'll get a new professor next year." As he spoke, he reached out and played with a strand of Hermione's brown curly hair, twirling it around his fingers. "Besides, isn't the self-defense spell I taught you enough?" he teased, gently brushing her nose with the curl.
"Stop that!" Hermione said, batting his hand away and giving him a shy look with her brown eyes. Luke chuckled, enjoying her reaction. He poked her cheek playfully, finding her puffy cheeks endearing.
Meanwhile, Harry felt like a third wheel, watching his friends' interaction. Just then, the classroom door opened with a thud, and Lockhart entered, his usual confident demeanor noticeably absent. He wore a blue embroidered dress with a red cape, much like his previous flamboyant outfits, but his smile was forced and uneasy.
"Why does he look half-dead?" Hermione whispered to Luke , who had just extricated his finger from her bite. He shrugged, glancing at his finger marked with tiny teeth marks, amused by her lion cub-like habit of nipping.
Lockhart, trying to maintain some semblance of his former self, clapped his hands to quiet the class. "Alright, everyone settle down," he called out, his voice lacking its usual energy. His eyes had been altered from gray to blue, and the whites of his eyes looked normal again, likely the result of a Transfiguration or Confusion Charm.
"Today, we'll discuss some methods for dealing with werewolves," Lockhart announced, stealing a glance at Luke, who was sitting casually at the back of the room, chin in hand. Luke smiled innocently back, appearing every bit the harmless student, though Lockhart knew better after the events of the previous night.
Hermione noticed the professor's gaze and leaned over to Luke , whispering, "He's just reading from the book again." She shook her head, clearly unimpressed.
