Chapter 39: Mundane Stuff (1)

「Congratulations on passing the entrance exam, please…」

Bam!

My hand slammed down on the alarm clock above my bed.

"Fucking hell, I think this is going to give me PTSD."

The voice was croaky, and it belonged to a man who sounded, well, flamboyant. If that didn't wake me up, I wasn't sure what would.

Slowly, I sat up, running a hand through my hair.

"Damn, I still need more sleep."

Using the conditional constant vessel on myself had really been a bad idea.

I rolled my shoulders and closed my eyes briefly.

My room smelled like spring, fresh roses and something subtly woody.

It was nothing like the cramped, lifeless apartment Allen had lived in before I transmigrated.

This place was spacious, luxurious even, easily comparable to a five-star hotel.

Slipping out of my dirty clothes, I headed for the bathroom, only to realize I didn't have a fresh set of clothes.

Panic flickered for a moment before I rushed back and tapped the alarm clock again.

The same grating voice rang out, but I gritted my teeth and endured it.

「Congratulations on passing the entrance exam. Please use the tablet on the reading table for more information and to request your uniform.」

Switching the alarm off, I lingered for a moment, contemplating whether to open it up and see what it was made of.

"I can do that later," I muttered, dropping the clock onto the bed.

The reading room's door was beside an empty walk-in closet.

To encourage interaction among students, there was only a single large kitchen in the building, near the lounge.

Cadets could still eat out, but naturally, that would cost more points.

As soon as I entered the room, I spotted the sleek modern tablet.

It was from the same company as Allen's old phone and tablet, but a different model.

This one was newer, lighter, and had a better camera, though the overall design was the same.

I flipped it over, admiring it before turning it on.

[Hellos~ I'm Quil-AI. What can I do for you?]

"Hmm…"

[Do you want me to translate the word "hmmm…"?]

["Hmm…" Etymology: used to indicate thought…]

"Shut the fuck up!"

[I'm sorry if my answer was unsatisfactory. If you want, I can…]

I cut it off again. "Just tell me how to get clothes and everything I need."

[To get clothes, you can either buy them separately with the points given to you, or buy student bundles.]

"Bundles or separately?"

I nodded.

"Okay Quil, buy the most popular pack for females, but make the items masculine."

[Okay, I will do that immediately.]

[Premium Model Pack Purchased]

[Points left: 3,000,567]

"That's a lot, right?" I whispered, shutting the tablet before it could respond.

Sitting on the study chair, I reached for a book on the fundamentals of magic.

"Might as well pass the time."

It took about ten minutes for the clothes and other items to arrive in my room.

I had expected a delivery bot, but instead, it was a pretty second-year girl.

According to her, it was a side hustle to earn extra points.

And yeah, I hadn't asked her any of that.

It was just one of the many wonders my shirtless self could create.

After a long shower, I put on a white round-neck polo and a nude sweater over it.

Apex was always cold since it was high in the sky, so layering was necessary.

Which meant no abs showing for me, at least for now.

As soon as I was done, my phone buzzed.

Messages from Beatrice and Quincy arrived almost simultaneously.

Quincy simply asked to meet in the lounge, while Beatrice went full knight mode, congratulating me on passing.

"I guess she's already seen the result."

I smiled at the screen, slipped the phone into my pocket, and left.

The hall outside my building on the 17th of 52 floors was noisy.

The moment I entered, the chatter outside a girls' room stopped as she and her friend turned to me.

They smiled shyly and waved, and I, being a playboy, waved back.

As I entered the elevator, I clicked on the 14th floor instead of the ground floor.

I had heard from gossip during my journey to the elevator that both Edo and his fiancée were on that floor.

It wasn't that I was a bad guy, but the least I could do was tease him.

However, as the door opened, my gaze locked onto a beautiful young woman with crystalline blue eyes.

She spotted me immediately, recoiled slightly, her face flushing.

"Oh, weirdo."

She looked away quickly. "Don't call me a weirdo."

Suddenly, I felt the urge to tease someone, but I held back.

"Why are you trying to hide?"

Sylvia, tiptoeing away, came to a halt. "I—I never did that!"

I let out a chuckle. "Sure, sure. Just follow me; let's go to the lounge."

She looked me in the eye and shook her head.

"Me," she pointed at herself, then gestured at others. "People."

She shook her head again. "No, no."

"So you're a coward."

"No! I'm an introvert."

I sighed. "Suit yourself then."

As if remembering something, she tugged on the sleeve of my sweater. "Okay, let's go."

She nodded twice, as if confirming something. "But you pay for my food."

I didn't reply as we entered the elevator and headed to the lounge on the ground floor.

It was busy, like a shopping mall.

As I passed my other classmates, I felt their gazes on me.

Seeing everyone staring, I whispered to Sylvia,

"Seems like everyone is staring at us."

She tilted her head, exasperated. "It's not us, just you."

I smirked knowingly. "I know."

She clenched her jaw and muttered under her breath, "You annoying bastard."

Inside the lounge, groups of students chattered and laughed.

Some lounged on the couches.

Others played games, some leaned against the walls.

But anyone could tell at a glance that they were taking relaxation to a whole new level.

As I scanned the room, my eyes found Quincy.

She was standing with two guys at her side, clearly flustered.

For some reason, my expression tightened.

Was it anger?

Yes.

It was undeniably anger.

I took a step forward, but before I could move again, Sylvia gently held my hand.

"Relax," she said softly. "Please don't kill anyone."

I smiled the warmest smile I could manage. "Don't worry, I am."

Haah, like hell I was relaxed.

Seems having a quiet first day wasn't possible.

Time to kick some ass.
