The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 145: Beyond The Boundaries (5)

'Hm... He's wasted our body. What has he been doing?' Jason groaned to himself as the new personality took over.

[All restrictions removed... Welcome back, Jason Wright...]

This notice swam in front of Jason's eyes as a cold, mechanical voice of Syssie echoed the words as her avatar appeared. However, she was not the Syssie that Jason knew right now. Her personality code seemed to be suppressed as she stared into empty space. 'I don't have much time...' Jason sighed as his eyes began to shine with blue light.

He swept his gaze over the workshop to make sure that nobody was watching. 'I see, he wants to solve this vehicle's problems and fix the AI. Well, I only have time to deal with the pressing matter but I can leave some clues for him.' Electricity sparked on Jason's fingertips and connected to the implant on the back of his neck.

'Hm... It degraded faster than I thought once it was disconnected from my full power. Let's see what we can do.' Jason's mind translated everything that was wrong with the implant. Making it easy for him to understand. 'Let's eject this part, reconnect these two... Put a bypass in here... The Memory is a bit lacking...'

Jason suddenly cut off the connection, as a shout from the other side of the warehouse caught his attention. From the memories of the other him, he realised that these were his material supplies arriving. 'That was pretty fast... Let me see. That merchant called Zach probably had them sent over before the messenger could arrive. If I'm not wrong, he's probably hoping to get a huge commission from Sarah for sending me here. Ah, that's probably why he wanted to buy this pathetic excuse of an ANT-V. He was going to sell it to her and cut out the middleman.'

'Well... I'm sure I can whip up a nice surprise for him...' Jason watched as Sarah had the materials directed to his workspace where Jason's eyes shone. 'This is much better.'

He waited until the messenger left and he was all alone before he began his procedure again. However, this time he connected himself with the crates of goods that had been transferred as well. 'Some of these are pretty good... Let's see...' Metal, plant samples and other strange materials began to float around his body on the current of electricity that he was emanating.

The metal began to melt and reshape itself as the plants turned to liquids and fused with other materials to create something new. 'That should last longer...' A sudden stabbing pain assaulted Jason's mind causing him to lose focus momentarily. Jason sighed as he realised that releasing his power fully was aggravating the tumour growing on his mind.

'There's no way to fix it just now... This body isn't strong enough to survive the procedure. ' Jason sighed as he focused on replacing various parts of his implant. 'That should the AI a nice boost.' As he fine-tuned Syssie's main body with the new materials, he coded new instructions into Syssie to prevent her from revealing too much.

At that moment, a frown appeared on his face as his gaze quickly snapped towards the open doorway of the workshop. A woman who looked to be in her late twenties with dark skin and white hair stood there, staring at him. Two men stood on either side of her wearing rags fashioned into robes. As soon as their eyes met, she spun on her heels and disappeared out of view.

-Antihero]

'What was that?' Jason's eyes narrowed as he stared at the now-empty space. A chill crept down his spine as he wondered about the strange woman. However, since they had never been in contact, she should not have found anything strange about his Power even if she had seen it. He turned his attention back to the materials, and with a smile, began to lay out the breadcrumbs he intended to leave for the other him to find.

'Good, now... A little gift for the merchant...' A sinister smile swept across his face as a new item began to take shape on the work table...

Meanwhile, in a shack not far from the workshop...

"My lady, did we really have to come here? With your Power there was no need to expose yourself like this!" One of the two men complained to the woman who had been staring at Jason.

"Of course, this is an event that I had to witness myself. The alliance are sweeping the empire with their agents. The second horseman is growing in Power. Depending on what happens over the next few days, the course of the future could be decided." The woman sighed as she shook her head.

"Lady Archive..." The other man sighed. "Surely that's just an excuse. With the things you know you could easily hide yourself away from what is to come."

However, Archive shook her head with a sad smile. 'They still don't understand. There's no escaping it. We're headed towards a fixed point. Just like what happened before. The only variables are the paths taken to get there. And this is my best chance at surviving long enough to make a difference.'

She sighed as she thought about the limitations of her Power. 'I can see all of history, all of what is happening right now, and anything in the future that people's current choices will lead to. But it's like a big game of chance. Every choice has different possibilities. And none are set in stone.'

'The only thing I can be sure of... Is that this event will lead to my death. But I will choose how I get there...' Archive stared off into the distance. Her mind was filled with the possibilities of Jason's path. On one path, he was hailed as a saviour. Someone who brought like back to the world. On the other, images flashed of a great war, as those fearful of those more powerful than them attempted to strike him down.

'Your path is filled with danger, loss, sorrow... But also joy, and the hopes of many.' Archive's lips curled into a smile. 'If only the others had awakened already, I could help you out more. Whatever happens... We must stop the fourth horseman as soon as possible. If they gain control over their Power...' Archive shivered at the thought as her head turned to look at a new group of travellers walking through the marketplace.

'It seems the Alliance is already here... They must have chosen to avoid that mountain road. Seems like I'll have to pay more attention to them...' Archive's eyes narrowed as she watched to see where they would go. They stopped at a junction and argued a bit before finally deciding to head in the other direction from the workshop. 'Jason Wright... It appears luck is on your side today...'

Meanwhile, back in the workshop...

Jason tossed a strange black rod between his hands. Green light shone through the transparent materials set in it here and there. Quite frankly, he was rather pleased that he could put this together with what he had on hand. He called out to Sarah and asked her to have it delivered to Zach as a thank you for getting his materials delivered here so quickly.

"Make sure to tell him it's a powerful weapon that can only be used once. Tell him to press this button and throw it at his enemies." Jason smiled warmly at Sarah as she took the strange rod from his hands. She curiously looked it over as her eyes shone with passion.

She could tell at a glance that this item was more advanced than anything she had seen. She wanted to test it out herself but from Jason's warnings, it sounded like a one-time use life-saving item. So she did not dare secretly take it away to study it before having it sent to Zach. 'I wonder if he'll make something like this for me if I ask him?'

She eyed him curiously as she wondered how she could manipulate him into doing something like that for her. 'No, that won't work. He's too young. It's best if I just keep this professional and be as nice as I can towards him.'

"Sarah? Did you hear me?" Jason smiled at the cute expression she was making on her face.

"No... Sorry, what is it?"

"I said I think I have a solution to your problem with the Murk Walkers..." Jason gave his warmest smile as he kept up his act. "But you'll need to buy some materials from me. This is my idea..."
