The Legacy of the Magizoologist

Chapter 9: Departure

The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of activity. Jamie and Newt traveled to Diagon Alley, where Jamie marveled at the bustling streets lined with shops. They purchased his robes, books, and a beautiful ash wand with a unicorn hair core.

In the apothecary, Jamie eagerly browsed the ingredients, his knowledge impressing even the shopkeeper.

"You've got an eye for quality," the shopkeeper remarked as Jamie selected a jar of powdered bicorn horn.

"Jamie's quite skilled with potions," Newt added proudly.

By the time they returned home, Jamie's excitement was palpable. He spent hours organizing his new supplies, carefully labeling each jar and vial.

On the eve of his departure, Jamie stood in the greenhouse, his hands brushing over the plants he had nurtured. He whispered softly to each one, promising to return and take care of them.

Newt found him there, a quiet smile on his face. "You've created something truly special here, Jamie."

Jamie turned to him, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "I'm going to miss this place. And you."

Newt stepped forward, resting a hand on Jamie's shoulder. "You'll always have a home here. And you're not leaving forever—just starting a new chapter. Hogwarts is going to be an incredible adventure for you."

Jamie nodded, his resolve strengthening. "I want to make you proud."

"You already have," Newt said warmly.

The next morning, Newt accompanied Jamie to King's Cross Station. The platform was alive with the chatter of students and the hissing of steam from the Hogwarts Express. Jamie's trunk and his small cauldron were loaded onto the train, along with a small terrarium housing a magical plant Jamie insisted on bringing.

As the train's whistle blew, Jamie turned to Newt, his hazel eyes brimming with emotion.

"Thank you for everything," he said.

Newt crouched to meet Jamie's gaze. "Remember, Jamie, Hogwarts will teach you many things, but never lose what makes you unique. Your gift, your kindness—that's your true magic."

Jamie hugged him tightly before boarding the train. As the Hogwarts Express pulled away, Newt waved, a bittersweet smile on his face.

Jamie leaned out of the window, his heart filled with excitement and a touch of nervousness. The world stretched before him, full of possibilities. For the first time, he felt ready to face it.
