The Legacy of the Magizoologist

Inside the Great Hall, Jamie tried to push the memory of Malfoy's sneer from his mind as he took in the breathtaking sight. The floating candles, the enchanted ceiling, and the warm glow of the room filled him with awe.

The Sorting Hat's song was brief but captivating, and Jamie listened intently as Professor McGonagall began calling names. Hermione was sorted into Gryffindor, followed shortly by Neville. Jamie clapped for them, though his palms were clammy as he waited for his turn.

Finally, Professor McGonagall called, "Jamie Carter."

Jamie stepped forward, heart pounding, and sat on the stool. The Sorting Hat was placed on his head, and a deep voice echoed in his mind.

"Ah, a compassionate soul. Loyal, hardworking, and deeply connected to the natural world. You value fairness and collaboration—qualities that will serve you well in… HUFFLEPUFF!"

The table draped in yellow and black erupted in cheers. Jamie removed the hat, relief washing over him as he joined his housemates.

The Hufflepuff table was warm and inviting. Hannah Abbott introduced herself and explained the basics of their house, while Ernie Macmillan marveled at Jamie's terrarium.

"That plant glows!" Ernie exclaimed.

Jamie smiled. "It's a Glowthorn. It helps with healing burns and brewing calming draughts. I've been caring for it for years."

"Professor Sprout is going to adore you," Hannah said with a grin.

As Jamie settled into the cozy Hufflepuff common room later that evening, he couldn't help but replay the scene with Malfoy and Harry in his mind. Malfoy's arrogance reminded him of people who didn't understand his love for magical creatures and plants.

But Harry's defiance gave him hope. Hogwarts was a place where people could stand up for themselves and for others, no matter where they came from.

Climbing into bed, Jamie placed his terrarium on the bedside table. The Glowthorn's light cast soft, reassuring shadows across the rounded walls. He smiled to himself, feeling a sense of belonging that grew with each moment.

Tomorrow, his Hogwarts journey would truly begin.
