The Last King Of Darkness

Chapter 602: The Beginning of the Great Transformation

Rod took a deep breath and raised his voice to say, "After I established a connection with the Spirit Core of the Star Marrow Altar, all the functions of the altar unfolded before me."

"The high potential Spirit's Curtain produced by the Star Marrow Altar, when fully extended, can exceed 2,000 thousand yards."

"In other words, it can create a Black Fog Great Wall that extends 2,000 thousand yards, with the Black Fog inside the wall at least at the level of dual derivation."

Horus frowned and said, "What is the use of this? To attract monsters?"

Rod countered, "Why do monsters attack us?"

Horus looked at Rod with an expression full of doubt, in his understanding, it was natural for monsters to attack Trolian; it was like why people eat or why they defecate, an unquestionable matter that needed no answer.

But the great scholar Amides provided the standard academic answer.

"Monsters have an extreme aversion to the aura of living beings and harbor a soul-deep hatred for all warm flesh. They have an instinct to destroy fire and anything with the essence of fire."

"This is the fundamental element rooted deep within all Dark Souls."

The newly promoted history professor Barrett provided a further explanation.

"Monsters attacking Trolian are generally divided into three types."

"The first type are aimless wanderers, who attack us after smelling the aura of the Holy Fire when approaching the territory of Trolian."

"The second type are monsters migrating due to disturbances within the Dark World, the most typical being the Black Tide."

"The third type is an important one. The presence of the Holy Fire continually disturbs the Dark World, and monsters attacking Trolian as a result of this disturbance represent the Black Fog's source feedback. It is uncontrollable and may bring us unimaginably powerful monsters or terrifying Monster Tides."

"For instance, the great disaster 25 years ago or the three great extinctions in Trolian's history."

Another newly promoted history professor, Bins, added: "Besides the Holy Fire, triggering taboos also brings indescribable dangers, which is why there are many prohibitions in Trolian, a lesson written in blood."

One such rule is not to frequently mention the King's name.

Rod said in a deep voice, "Regardless of the type, the fundamental reason for the attacks is the hatred of fire and light, the resentment towards low entropy forms."

He took a deep breath and spoke the first important sentence.

"We all know that the Spirit's Curtain is the highest level of protection, capable of prohibiting all spirit disturbances. If it were raised at the border, it could isolate the aura of the Holy Fire."

Horus's face immediately wrinkled.

"Rod, this is not feasible. Let me tell you clearly, several hundred years ago, someone tried this, but the disturbance of the Holy Fire to the Dark World is fundamental and cannot be isolated; it can only block the emission of the Holy Fire's aura."

"Whether it's the second or the third type of monsters, they would go through the Spirit's Curtain."

Rod smiled slightly.

"But this is a different Spirit's Curtain, it utilizes the power of the Stars to elevate the potential of the Spirit's Curtain."

"It is well known that potential is the grade of the spirit. The higher the potential, the higher the grade of the spirit. Monsters will instinctively avoid entering areas with higher potential than their own, just as we would not purposely climb a hill without necessity."

Horus wanted to speak, but Rod extended a hand to stop him.

"The most important thing is that the high-potential Spirit's Curtain will gather Black Fog, forming the Black Fog Great Wall."

"I have mentioned that the characteristic of the Black Fog Great Wall is the thin Black Fog on both sides of the wall and the dense Black Fog within the wall. Monsters find it extremely difficult to adapt to this change. Books... uh, through my research, as long as we further exacerbate this disparity, they will instinctively detour, unless there is no other path."

"Look."

Rod approached a square table in the Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground, upon which lay a highly detailed map of Trolian.

"This is Trolian."

"To our north lies the Dead Ash Mountain Range, atop which is the Northern Great Wall, responsible for defending against attacks from the Dark Great Plain, with the Royal City situated midway along the Northern Great Wall."

"To our east, the extension of the Dead Ash Mountain Range is defended collectively by part of the Northern Great Wall, the Castle of Crows, and the Storm Castle."

"Our south and west form a long defensive circle composed of thousands of strongholds, fortresses, bastions, and castles."

"This is our defensive system."

"And as we expand outward, the defensive area will increase, and the pressure of defense will grow heavier."

"If we reach the limit of our expansion and place this altar on our southern or western border, raise the Spirit's Curtain, and form the Black Fog Great Wall, then monsters will either move east or west, consolidating this long defensive line into two strongholds."

"By holding these two strongholds, we could defend the Trolian border stretching 2,000 thousand yards!"

The Holy Fire Sacrificial Ground fell silent for a moment.

Everyone was silently mulling over Rod's words, contemplating the feasibility of this defense plan.

Gradually, everyone's eyes started to brighten.

But there were still many uncertainties, the biggest of which was:

"Is the Black Fog Great Wall reliable? Won't there be many loopholes?"

Rod smiled slightly: "It can be tested. According to my estimates, as long as the concentration of the Black Fog Great Wall reaches the level of dual derivation, no monsters will be willing to cross the wall. If we lower the potential of the space outside the Black Fog Great Wall and guide it, this probability can be considered infinitely close to one hundred percent."
