The Last King Of Darkness

Chapter 543: Never-Ending Steps Forward

Rod was both anxious and surprised to accept Olivia's invitation.

In truth, he didn't really want to go. Olivia was just too much like a big sister. She was tall, taller than Rod by a third of a measurement, so that when he stood before her, he only reached just below her chest, and looking up at her was an overwhelming pressure.

Furthermore, after advancing to the Monarch Level, there was an indistinct yet constant aura of authority around her, like a monarch holding power high above.

Perhaps this is why humanity named this stage "Monarch."

Slaying monarchs and stabbing emperors are tasks not just anyone can handle. Of course, Rod had the guts, but he didn't much like this way; he was no longer a mere boy with a heart yearning to cuddle in the arms of a big sister.

Though she might face your shortcomings with a warm and beautiful smile, shelter you from wind and rain with her mature and charming body, and her seductive voice would guide your life, allowing a boy to indulge in delicious dependency without the bitter challenge of striving.

This is the root of the older sister complex; children yearn to grow but fear responsibility.

But Rod had grown up, preferring to bear responsibility and charge ahead, letting his sweat fall.

However, Olivia's invitation was truly irresistible, as she was now Monarch Level, the highest free movable force in Trolian.

What if something required her help?

What if he needed her support in the future?

Fostering a stronger relationship was not wrong, was it?

"No choice, for the future of humanity, I can only sacrifice a bit of dignity."

Rod shifted his gaze away from Olivia's astonishingly long legs, thinking regretfully.

"Ah, my virtue is truly too noble, humanity should be proud to have someone like me."

Olivia didn't mind Rod's gaze, smiled and turned toward the Dark Moon Princess.

The surrounding noise suddenly quieted, although the debate continued, everyone seemed a bit distracted.

The Dark Moon Princess also turned her head; the expression through the veil became misty.

Olivia stood before her, making the Dark Moon Princess appear as small as a doll.

She looked up at the person with whom she shared a strange connection, without speaking, but the waves in her eyes revealed her inner tremor.

"Little Dark Moon."

Olivia said softly.

"I'm very sorry, you were born into an ill fate, grew up differently, and defied adversity. In the past, I was unable to face you, but now, I have figured it out, neither I, nor you, nor my brother, nor humanity is to blame, but this cruel and harsh world. Since you were born of our flesh and soul, you are my kin."

Tears immediately flowed from the Dark Moon Princess's eyes.

"Sister."

She choked up, her voice crisp and clear, like a jade bead.

"It's great, you finally don't think I'm a freak..."

Olivia whispered, "I'm sorry."

"No, no, sister, there's no need to apologize. Actually, I knew from the start that I was different from them. A newborn baby is only so small, and grows so slowly. It takes eleven years at the fastest to ignite the Soul Fire, but I only took a year. I seem to naturally understand everything, understand the strange looks from others."

"Everything about me is unusual. When I displayed my talents, Royal City was so tense, those Elders in front of me were pale, eyes full of fear... From that time on, I knew I had to disguise myself, but my feelings for sister were something I couldn't hide, just not understanding why sister wouldn't see me."

"Later I knew, in the Resurrection Ceremony, my brother's flesh and soul accounted for the most. I... might have inherited everything from him, that's what they all said."

Olivia gently shook her head: "No, you are you, the unique Dark Moon, our little Princess. You are not someone else; my brother has already gone forever, as has my child. But if you see me as a sister, then I am."

The Dark Moon Princess looked deeply moved. She tightly hugged Olivia, seeming to cry.

Olivia gently stroked her back, years of estrangement seemed to vanish in an instant.

Rod silently nodded, thinking that humanity had grown slightly stronger again; I should also strengthen my connection with the Dark Moon Princess when possible.

Although he didn't know why she was called a princess, just from her misty profile, her beauty matched that of Mephit.

The two were completely different types of beauty, the Dark Moon Princess exuded mistiness and allure.

In this regard, she might be even more attractive than Mephit.

By this time, the quarrel was nearing its end, the main figures had expressed their positions, and the King, seeing the timing was about right, directly asked:

"Olivia, what do you think should be done about this matter?"

In an instant, Olivia transformed from a tender sister to a strong figure who battled everywhere, the monarch's aura surged forth, and the powerful pressure caused the First Level Combatants to turn slightly pale.

"Hold it down a bit."

The King gently waved his hand, and the pressure instantly disappeared.

The crowd felt as if they were bathed in a spring breeze.

Olivia nodded and said loudly, "I personally believe that limited expansion is feasible. We will always face threats from the Dark World. Nothing can be done to a hundred percent certainty. The best way to eliminate fear is to face it. As much as possible, take big steps forward, to usher in a better future."
