Chapter 513: True King and the Abyss
"The King of Ashes?"
Rod looked at him with a puzzled gaze, the faint light from his body connected to the Ashen Throne behind him.
On the long backrest, his name was shining.
Horus's face turned grim, and he said slowly, "Legend has it that the king born from the embers after the fire has extinguished is the true king, ruling over the laws of destruction, possessing primordial authority. In ancient lore, the true purpose of Giant King Omir creating the Ashen Throne was to forge the King of Ashes."
Rod scratched his head and asked, "Archbishop, I remember Giant King Omir is like a god to the giants, right?"
Horus nodded slightly, "Giant City is the Divine City, and Giant King Omir's status in the Giant Clan is only second to the Giant Ancestor Ehaius."
"Is that so? Then the True King...is mightier than God?"
Horus said solemnly, "The True King is indeed a god, but a weak god may not be a True King. In the ancient classical soul hierarchy, above the Commander is the True King."
"But the True King is too distant, hence the intermediate step, Monarch Level."
"Strictly speaking, all kings are in an incomplete True King state. In the Ancient Epoch of blazing fire and countless strong figures, a True King was also a ruler of a battlefield."
"To us, the True King is the sole superpower able to resist the unspeakable, tearing apart the curtain of Black Fog, but unfortunately, after entering the Dark Epoch, the path to the True King has long been severed, and for thousands of years, no real king has appeared."
Rod was incredibly shaken; this was not the first time he heard the legend of the True King. In Novastar, everyone firmly believed they would become a true king in the future and thus save Trolian, leading humanity to revival.
But after hearing Horus's detailed explanation, he suddenly realized the gap between a true king and himself—even a king so strong was only an incomplete True King.
And the gap between him and a king was already very vast.
Rod couldn't help but ask, "Were there many True Kings once?"
Horus replied, "The number of True Kings is limited. Usually, there are no more than three True Kings in the same epoch, but this is not an iron law, and the reasons are unknown to us for now."
Rod asked with interest, "Has the King of Ashes ever existed?"
Horus's face turned grim.
"Legend says when the King of Ashes appears, He will destroy this world and then rule over its embers. This is not a savior like the True King, but an evil omen..."
Rod widened his eyes, "Destroy the world? An evil omen? But...why?"
Horus said indifferently, "The True King wielded extremely strong laws, but was also controlled by the laws. His actions could no longer be simply controlled by will."
Rod felt uneasy, "Then why did you say I am the King of Ashes?"
Horus gently shook his head, "That was just my illusion. Rod, you know, your existence is extremely unreasonable, with many unexplainable aspects. If it weren't for the bias from the King and Alan towards you, you wouldn't have so easily entered the most core layer of the kingdom without investigation."
Rod's heart trembled; he realized that the Royal City still harbored suspicion against him. His simple lies were not caught because they chose not to pursue them, rather than being intellectually obtuse.
Horus gently waved his hand, and white light lifted Rod.
"The King is always right, although many times we find him wrong, holding great misunderstanding of some of his actions, yet ultimately, we always find him right."
"Alan, too, although he rarely makes decisions, silently proves this point through countless victories."
"Therefore, despite not understanding this time as well, we followed the King's orders..."
Horus paused, his gaze heavy as hell.
"Of course, I am not suspecting you, but at the highest level of the kingdom, everything must be transparent. The complexity of the soul is unimaginable, and often, will cannot determine action. This concerns our fate, hoping you can understand."
Rod hurriedly said, "I understand, I understand."
The incidents during the battle in Starry Sky City, where Horus was controlled, were vivid in memory.
Moreover, they knew that ancient evil thoughts would reincarnate to form new souls again.
This soul initially has its original will, but with the infiltration of evil thoughts, his behavior slowly spirals out of control, eventually assimilating into the evil thoughts.
In subsequent research, they discovered not only evil thoughts, but powerful Ancient God's soul fragments, the mental strings of old rulers, or even a strand of residual spirit from incomprehensible great beings, could all reincarnate and grow into new souls.
The masters of these souls often become exceedingly powerful, with unimaginable talent and incomprehensible power.
It's fine if benevolent or not affecting the soul's original will.
But if it's akin to ancient evil thoughts, then it's disastrous.
Thus, despite Rod's actions indicating he couldn't be a Doomsday believer, due to many oddities in his source of power, people couldn't completely trust him.
Horus's gaze gradually calmed, shaking off that horrible defeat, spoke solemnly, "Although we have complied with the King's order to accept you, in private, we have many speculations about your origins."
