Chapter 96: War
The night sky was visible from the Rijal clan. The silver moon surrounded by two moons arrived at the zenith of the sky. The stars were twinkling as always painting the black canvas of the night sky with glittering colors in perfect combination. The haphazard mixing of the colors from the stars made it even more beautiful and perfect.
There was no pattern or anything just a sky full of stars in different colors who shined brightly despite the spotlight taken away from them by the radiant moons. Every Rijal clan member felt that the stars were their kindred spirits. The formation turned to twinkling pieces and began to fall down like glitters, colors fading away into the darkness under the colorful light of the night sky. At this moment Keshab took out a jade slip and yelled ‘now’ into it with his divine sense.
He had previously sent messages in the jade slip to the Battle hall members about the formation instructing them to be ready and act at a command. When Keshab yelled, the Battle hall members protecting the seven major and twenty-one minor nodes made hand signs and injected their spiritual energy into the nodes. As energy began gathering at the nodes, Keshab took out a rustic token made of jade and started injecting it with his spiritual energy and divine sense.
He made different symbols with his fingers and started chanting in an obscure tone. Just as he had finished chanting, the energy gathered in the nodes disappeared immediately and started gathering toward the falling pieces of the broken formation. With a wave of his hand the rustic token shattered and the falling pieces of the formation were hurled away towards the cultivators surrounding the clan. They were rejoicing for breaking down the formation when little pieces of the broken formation swept towards them like glass pieces, twinkling with beautiful light and deadly threat. No one was able to react as it happened in an instant.
The slowly falling broken pieces of formation in an instant changed their direction and shot at the cultivators. This was the time they had let down their guard and many of them got instantly injured. Out of more than a hundred foundation building cultivators, around fifteen died and among them, two were in the middle stages of the foundation building realm. As for the qi sensing realm cultivators in the background, more than a hundred had died. In total, almost half of the cultivators present there were injured, some gravely.
This was the latest addition Keshab had put in the modified array. It used a lot of spirit energy and could only be used when the formation broke down. This was a kind of sneak attack, compensation for the broken formation of sorts. After the wave of broken formation shards both the clan members and the outsiders were surprised. Even Amrit didn’t expect the inheritance to contain such arrays. He only knew the structures but didn’t know how they were engraved or how they could be combined. He could barely read the obscure words that lit up on the veil.
This was purely the work of Keshab. Keshab was an array genius in his own right. If he had gotten the inheritance a year ago perhaps the mountain protection formation wouldn’t have been broken today. But there was no point in dwelling on the past. If he hadn’t gotten the formation they wouldn’t have held on for so long. The first streak of the golden light would have destroyed the previous formation. Except for Keshab, no one knew about such a function. The Battle hall members were just doing what they were instructed to do.
Punya had been told that there would be surprises even if the formation broke, he didn’t expect there was such a neat trick. There was a disturbance in the invader’s rank. Everyone was surprised. At that moment Keshab yelled ‘attack’. The surprised elders instantly became alert and began to prepare for an attack. They were already close to the edge of the formation and since the invaders were injured they wasted no time in attacking them.
The elders and deacons had different specialties, some of them were alchemists who wielded furnace and their flames to attack the foundation building realm invaders. The fires used in alchemy although not comparable to the beast flames or the spirit flames, were hot enough to melt most of the second-grade materials. So when it landed on the outsides, their injuries increased even more. Although the flames were not fatal to the cultivators of the same stage, they could at least injure them. Alchemists had their own battling style but in small clans like the Rijal clan, they didn’t have such inheritance.
Otherwise, every alchemist would be turned into a slave for powerful cultivators. The elders of the Rijal clan began to pour everything they had on their flames because they knew if this chance was missed and the enemy came to their senses, it would only start getting harder for them. If they could make good use of this chance and kill one or two enemies, the burden would be somewhat lighter for the clan later on. And thus the alchemist of the clan began to gather fires from their cauldron and started attacking the enemies.
They even succeeded in killing a few injured cultivators in the foundation building realm. As for those proficient in the arrays, they used few portable arrays and produced a combination with deadly effects. The enemies were trapped inside the formation. Some were restricted, some fell into illusion and some were trapped in killing formation. The killing formation was the most effective as it was purely built for killing.
Some of the strong cultivators escaped those formations and some had lifesaving treasures with them but few of the cultivators who were too injured to fight back were killed mercilessly. Even some healthy cultivators were killed. As for the weapon refining department, they spent all their time forging the weapons which meant they knew how to wield one with the greatest effect and knew the weakness of the general weapons.
For the confused enemies, they were like wolves entering the den of sheep. They began reaping the life of the enemies similar to the other elders. As for the department of herb planting, after the inheritance, they had collected some herbs with sinister properties. Everyone was fighting for their life but the elders and deacons from the herb planting hill were blowing powder from their hands. It was like they were using pesticides with their hand.
And it also seemed to work. Although the properties of the blown powder were unknown, it was clear that these powders were working. Some of the enemies got rash, and some of their skin began to fester and rot.
