THE KING'S WIFE

Chapter 20: Masquerade or The Masqueraded

Corolla's eyes sparkled with excitement as she held the small, ornate box in her hands. She had no idea how it had gotten there or what the message meant, but she was determined to find out.

Just as she was about to open the box, Corolla's phone rang, shrill in the silence. She hesitated for a moment before answering it.

"Hello?" she said, her voice cautious.

"Corolla, it's Ayden," the voice on the other end said, smooth and charming. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."

Corolla felt a flutter in her chest as she heard Ayden's voice. She couldn't help but wonder what he wanted.

"What do you want, Ayden?" Corolla asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

"I was wondering if you'd like to attend a masquerade ball with me tonight," Ayden said, his voice low and inviting. "It's going to be a night to remember, and I wouldn't want to share it with anyone else."

Corolla's heart skipped a beat as she considered Ayden's invitation. She had never been to a masquerade ball before, and the thought of attending one with Ayden was tantalizing.

"Okay," Corolla said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll go with you."

Ayden's laughter echoed through the phone, sending shivers down Corolla's spine.

"I'll pick you up at 8 pm," Ayden said, his voice low and husky. "Don't forget to wear a mask."

And with that, the line went dead.

Corolla was left standing there, her heart racing with excitement. She had no idea what the night had in store, but she was ready for whatever came next.

As she got ready for the ball, Corolla couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. She put on a beautiful red gown, her hair styled in an elegant updo. And of course, she wore a mask, a delicate lace affair that covered her face.

When Ayden arrived, Corolla's heart skipped a beat. He was dressed in a tailored black tuxedo, his eyes gleaming with excitement behind his mask.

"You look stunning," Ayden said, his voice low and husky, as he offered Corolla his arm.

Corolla took it, feeling a spark of electricity as their skin touched. And together, they set off into the night, ready to face whatever lay ahead.

The masquerade ball was being held in a grand, opulent mansion on the outskirts of town. The music was loud, the lights flashing as people danced and laughed.

Corolla felt like she was in a dream, the music and laughter swirling around her like a kaleidoscope. She danced with Ayden, their bodies moving in perfect sync.

As the night wore on, Corolla found herself feeling more and more drawn to Ayden. She couldn't explain it, but there was something about him that made her feel alive.

And then, just as the clock struck midnight, Ayden leaned in close, his lips brushing against Corolla's ear.

"Meet me outside," he whispered, his voice sending shivers down Corolla's spine. "I have something to show you."

Corolla's heart was racing as she nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. What did Ayden want to show her? And what lay ahead?

As she made her way outside, Corolla felt a sense of anticipation building inside her. She had no idea what the night had in store, but she was ready for whatever came next.

And when she saw Ayden waiting for her outside, a small smile playing on his lips, Corolla knew that she was in for a night she would never forget.

Corolla's heart was racing as she followed Ayden through the dark, winding gardens of the mansion. The music and laughter of the masquerade ball faded into the distance, replaced by the sound of crickets and the rustling of leaves.

As they walked, the trees seemed to close in around them, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground. Corolla felt a shiver run down her spine, but Ayden's presence beside her was reassuring.

Finally, they reached a small, secluded clearing deep in the gardens. In the center of the clearing stood an enormous stone fountain, its waters glowing with an ethereal light.

Ayden stopped in front of the fountain, turning to face Corolla. His eyes gleamed with a knowing light, and Corolla felt a sense of anticipation building inside her.

"What is it, Ayden?" Corolla asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ayden's smile grew wider, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

"I think it's time you knew the truth about your family's past," Ayden said, his voice low and husky. "And about your own destiny."

Corolla's heart skipped a beat as Ayden reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, leather-bound book.

"This is the journal of your ancestor, the queen who founded our royal line," Ayden explained, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's the key to understanding your family's secrets and your own place in the world."

Corolla felt a sense of wonder wash over her as she took the journal from Ayden. The cover was old and worn, the pages yellowed with age.

As she opened the journal, Corolla felt a sudden jolt of recognition. The handwriting inside was familiar, and the words seemed to leap off the page.

"It's my mother's handwriting," Corolla said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ayden nodded, his eyes gleaming with a knowing light.

"Yes, Corolla," he said. "Your mother was trying to tell you something. Something that could change your life forever."

Corolla felt a sense of anticipation building inside her as she began to read the journal. The words were cryptic, but they seemed to hold a deep significance.

As she read, Corolla felt like she was uncovering a piece of her own history, a piece that had been hidden from her for so long.

And when she finally looked up, Corolla saw that Ayden was watching her, his eyes gleaming with a knowing light.

"What does it mean?" Corolla asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ayden's smile grew wider, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

"That's for you to figure out, Corolla," he said. "But I'll give you a hint. Your destiny is not what you think it is. And the truth about your family's past is only the beginning."

As Ayden spoke, the fountain behind him seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. Corolla felt a shiver run down her spine, and she knew that she was on the verge of uncovering a secret that would change her life forever.
