Chapter 3: Ch.3

Chapter 3: The Pack's Fury

The jungle erupted into chaos as the pack of Shadow Wolves descended upon Erik. Their glowing red eyes pierced through the darkness, and their snarls echoed like thunder. Erik's heart pounded in his chest, but there was no time to think—only to act.

The first wolf lunged at him, its jaws wide open, aiming for his throat. Erik swung his massive arm in a wide arc, catching the wolf mid-air and sending it crashing into a tree. The impact was so powerful that the tree splintered, and the wolf let out a pained yelp before collapsing.

But there was no time to celebrate. Two more wolves came at him from opposite sides, their movements synchronized. Erik ducked low, using his agility to avoid their snapping jaws. He grabbed one by the tail and hurled it into the other, the two wolves colliding in a heap of fur and claws.

**[Strength and Agility working in tandem. Host is adapting well.]**

"Not the time for commentary!" Erik growled, his voice a deep rumble that shook the air. He turned just in time to see another wolf leaping at him from behind. He spun around, his fist connecting with the wolf's skull. The creature crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

But the pack was relentless. The remaining wolves circled him, their growls growing louder. Erik could feel their strategy—they were wearing him down, testing his endurance. His chest heaved as he fought to catch his breath, his muscles burning from the exertion.

One wolf darted forward, feinting an attack before retreating. Another followed suit, nipping at Erik's legs. He swiped at them, but they were too fast, their movements coordinated and precise.

"Come on, you overgrown mutts!" Erik roared, slamming his fists into the ground. The impact sent a shockwave through the earth, causing the wolves to stumble. Seizing the opportunity, Erik charged forward, grabbing one wolf by the scruff of its neck and hurling it into another.

**[Host has defeated two more Shadow Wolves. Reward: 20 EP.]**

Erik didn't have time to celebrate. The remaining wolves were regrouping, their eyes glowing with a feral intensity. He could see the hunger in their gaze, the primal need to bring him down.

But Erik wasn't just a beast—he was a man with a mind, and he was starting to understand his new body. He crouched low, his massive frame coiled like a spring. When the next wolf lunged at him, he sidestepped and grabbed it by the throat, his grip like iron. The wolf struggled, its claws raking against his arm, but Erik held firm.

With a roar, he slammed the wolf into the ground, the impact leaving a crater in the earth. The wolf went limp, its body twitching before falling still.

**[Host has defeated another Shadow Wolf. Reward: 10 EP.]**

Only two wolves remained. They hesitated, their growls faltering as they took a step back. Erik straightened, his chest heaving as he glared at them. Blood dripped from his wounds, but he stood tall, his presence dominating the clearing.

"You want more?" Erik snarled, his voice a deep, guttural growl. "Come and get it."

The wolves exchanged a glance, their instincts warring with their fear. Finally, with a low whine, they turned and fled into the shadows, their tails between their legs.

Erik watched them go, his body trembling with adrenaline. He waited until the sound of their retreating footsteps faded before collapsing to his knees, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

**[Congratulations, Host. You have survived your first night in the jungle. Reward: 50 EP.]**

Erik let out a bitter laugh, his voice echoing through the trees. "Survived? Barely."

The system's interface flickered in his mind, displaying his updated stats:

**[Name: Erik (King Kong)]

Species: Primal Gorilla

Evolution Stage: 1

Strength: 20

Agility: 8

Endurance: 17

Intelligence: 10

Abilities: None

Evolution Points (EP): 80]**

Erik stared at the numbers, his mind racing. He had 80 EP now—enough to make a significant upgrade. But what should he prioritize? Strength had served him well, but his agility was still lacking. And his endurance… well, he'd need that if he was going to survive more fights like this.

"System," he said, his voice hoarse. "Can I unlock any abilities with 80 EP?"

**[Host has enough EP to unlock the ability 'Primal Roar.' This ability allows you to unleash a devastating roar that stuns enemies and boosts your own stats temporarily. Cost: 50 EP.]**

Erik considered it. A roar that could stun enemies and boost his stats? That sounded useful. "Do it. Unlock 'Primal Roar.'"

**[Ability unlocked: Primal Roar. Remaining EP: 30.]**

Erik felt a surge of energy course through him, his chest vibrating with a newfound power. He could feel the ability waiting to be unleashed, like a coiled spring ready to snap.

But there was no time to test it. The jungle was still alive with danger, and Erik knew this was only the beginning. He needed to find shelter, to recover from his wounds and plan his next move.

As he stood, his eyes scanned the clearing. The bodies of the Shadow Wolves lay scattered around him, a grim reminder of the fight he'd just survived. But Erik didn't feel pride—only a grim determination. This was his life now, and he would do whatever it took to survive.

"Alright, jungle," he muttered, his voice a low rumble. "You've thrown your worst at me. Let's see what else you've got."

With that, Erik turned and disappeared into the shadows, his massive frame moving with a surprising grace. The jungle watched him go, its secrets waiting to be uncovered.

And somewhere, deep within the heart of the wilderness, something stirred—a presence far greater and more dangerous than anything Erik had faced so far.
