Chapter 92: Arriving at the Zoo
Deceiving isn't a virtue, but keeping a promise is, so they can't coexist. If you've deceived someone, it's impossible to keep a promise.
Bi realized she couldn't teach this guy a lesson.
"Won't you two control him?" she asked Li Qianxia and Yang Qinglan.
"What did my brother do wrong?" Li Qianxia asked with a puzzled face.
"Sympathizing with an enemy is being cruel to your own people. What if that snail becomes really powerful in the future and opposes us at a critical moment? Have you thought about that?" Bi felt she was really strategic-minded and also quite ruthless.
Being ruthless is cool, isn't it?!
Li Qianxia thought what Bi said wasn't entirely without reason.
She asked Yang Qinglan, "Qing Lan, what do you think?"
For someone who's decided to become strong, this level of willfulness is just right," Yang Qinglan replied, her gaze fixed on the road ahead, holding a lit lantern in her hand. "Like in sports, each qualified athlete has their own willfulness."
Li Changzhou sighed, "Those who know me say I have worries in my heart; those who don't know me ask what I seek."
"What does that mean?" Bi asked Li Qianxia, as it seemed she couldn't understand the translated sentence.
"Uh." It took Li Qianxia two seconds to think, "My...brother...says, only you Bi care about him, knowing to criticize him. Qian Xia and Qing Lan spoil him, which is actually bad for him."
"Is that so?"
"Mm-hmm," nodded Li Qianxia.
"Is it really so?" Bi still asked Yang Qinglan, unconvinced.
Yang Qinglan also nodded gently, "Those who wish to harm you would shield you, letting you become blind, arrogant, entitled and then lose everything without understanding why."
Bi looked at Li Changzhou with a face that was a mix of disbelief and difficulty accepting what was said.
"I didn't expect you to be so sensible." She hesitated for a moment before placing her small hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry, since you've been ridden by this princess, you're my person. If someone bullies you, I'll help you."
Li Changzhou wanted to say something but ended up looking too moved to speak.
Li Qianxia held back a sigh and slowly turned her face towards the window, tummy full of laughter.
In the passenger seat, Yang Qinglan hooked a strand of hair behind her gracefully shaped ear without changing her expression.
Throughout the journey, Yafeiluna had an ever-increasing respect for Li Changzhou, admiring his strength, decisiveness in killing, alongside his kindness and even his ability to keep promises made to the enemy and sincerely accept suggestions from subordinates.
He was the perfect BOSS in her eyes!
The trip from Trojan Bridge to the zoo proceeded without further incidents.
The sky over Prague today was a cerulean blue, cloudless, except for pillars of smoke from the city's gunfire, making everything under the bright sun seem peaceful and tranquil.
But once at the zoo, the peaceful atmosphere was shattered. The animals were pacing and calling out in their cages restlessly, like a group of prisoners locked up during an earthquake sensing the danger.
They too sensed the danger and were terrified of the horrific sounds of artillery fire.
The group, carrying lit lanterns, was still noticed by many of the animals, who responded with varied attitudes—some scared, some angry, some pleading for help.
"Brother," Li Qianxia sympathized with them.
Li Changzhou didn't open the cages, saying, "They're safer inside."
At that moment, a squirrel was dancing excitedly, trying to persuade a polar bear.
The polar bear, in a pit designed to resemble an icy world, was lazily basking in the sun.
"Ah Bei, the city is in chaos. We must work together, do you understand? Only by cooperating can we survive!"
The polar bear, named 'Ah Bei,' yawned and spoke in a chilly, feminine voice, "Cooperate… According to humans, it means two or more people working together towards a common goal… Working together, you tell me what you can do?"
"Um, scouting. I can provide intelligence!"
"I just want to survive, not to compete. Intelligence means nothing to me."
"It'll be soon." Around ten drones descended from the sky and hovered midair.
The squirrel's fur stood on end in fright, and with a whoosh, it hid behind the massive body of the polar bear, looking like the bear's child.
The polar bear still lay on the ice, watching lazily as the drones that could turn into killing machines at any moment.
"The five people who killed Jiang are heading this way." Wang Donghua's voice came from one of the drones.
At the same time, the electronic screens in the zoo that had been playing documentaries switched to camera feeds, showing Li Changzhou and his group – familiar to the squirrel – approaching in the light of their lanterns.
"It's them! It's them!" the squirrel cried out in terror, "They're the murderers who killed Jiang and Taoli!"
The polar bear watched the electronic screen.
The zoo was large, with winding paths, but Li Changzhou and his group walked straight towards them with clear purpose.
"We're going to be killed! We're going to be killed!" the squirrel lost its composure, its tiny body shivering uncontrollably as if electrocuted.
In its mind were the images from that night, when Li Changzhou dashed over under the moonlight, moving with lightning speed to kill all five of his companions who were perfectly alive just moments before.
"I can cover you while you retreat," Wang Donghua said calmly.
The squirrel's eyes lit up, but then it heard the polar bear refuse, "No need."
"Why?!" The squirrel couldn't understand, staring wide-eyed at it.
"You died working with this human, didn't you? I don't trust him," the polar bear said.
"It was that guy who killed us! Not Wang Donghua!"
No matter what the squirrel said, the polar bear remained unmoved, accustomed to acting alone and never trusting anyone.
Wang Donghua was silent, and the air was filled only with the buzzing of the drones and the incessant roars of beasts.
Suddenly, dozens of drones flew out from the surrounding trees, not wasting words, and started shooting directly.
The sound of gunfire drowned out everything else as countless copper bullets poured out like a flood towards the polar bear, filling the air with a pungent smell of gunpowder.
The polar bear watched indifferently as the bullets flooded in; chunks of ice surged forward, building up an ice dam in front of it.
The flood of bullets battered the dam, chiseling away at the ice, leaving numerous visible indentations and sending shards flying which were then hit by bullets, melted, and evaporated by the heat in midair.
The squirrel hid behind the polar bear, its body flat on the ground, hands covering its head and eyes tightly shut, feeling as if the world was collapsing and shaking.
After a while, it slowly opened its eyes and saw the ice chunks firmly blocking the flood of bullets, its expression a mix of shock and joy.
"Ah Bei! You..."
A drone charged over, colliding with the ice, causing a booming explosion. The squirrel felt a physical numbness, and the ice, which had been indestructible a moment ago, lost half of its mass in an instant.
Another drone broke off from the group, rushing in with a bomb.
Finally, the polar bear stood up, its white fur flying. It roared to the sky; the massive sonic wave formed a terrifying shock wave, sweeping all the drones away.
The sound of gunfire paused like in a movie, disappearing in an instant, leaving only a ringing in the ears.
The propellers of the drones slowed down, and their bodies began to fall.
Halfway down, the blades suddenly buzzed to life again and started spinning.
The drones shot up rapidly, aiming their guns at the polar bear.
But there was no sign of the polar bear; instead, a slender yet muscular woman with white hair, standing 1.9 meters tall, was sprinting towards the zoo's exit.
The squirrel clutched the woman's long white hair, like a toy tied to the tail of a car, bobbing and weaving in the air.
"Such excitement?" A voice laced with a hint of laughter came through, clear and pleasant to the ear.
Li Changzhou landed, carrying Bi on his back, embracing Yang Qinglan with his left arm, holding the Emerald Bee Sword in his right hand, with a white snowy owl perched on his shoulder. Descending from the sky just behind him was a red-haired Italian woman, protected by twenty humanoid figures made of grey mist.
