Chapter 400: Beneath the city.
Rasmus and Aris saw Luke and the others walking in the hallway, and they both immediately lowered their heads. They glanced at each other, realizing the demonic energy came from that mysterious man behind Luke. Based on demonic energy, he was at least a Demon Lord rank.
"I want my butler to be by my side. He has helped me with dealing with all the work, and he's quite useful," Aider said as he looked at Luke with arrogance in his eyes.
Luke glanced at Rasmus and Aris, and then he looked over his shoulder at the mysterious man. The man glanced at Rasmus for a few seconds then stared at Aris, which took longer compared to when he was staring at Rasmus. However, the man looked at Luke, giving him a nod.
"You can take them if you want, but they're your responsibility. If they mysteriously died, that would be on you," Luke said calmly.
Rasmus glanced at Aris and shook his head, knowing that Aris was marked by Satan. The fact that the Demon Lord could almost see it, meant that whatever that awaited them, there would be more powerful demons there. Rasmus couldn't risk having Aris with him, not when she was marked and would blow the whole plan.
After Luke and the others left the building, Aider waited at the front door for Rasmus and Aris. He made sure nobody noticed something was off with him or his butler and maid.
"Let Rullein take your spot, stay here with Yur. You can use your free time to explore the city if you want," Rasmus said as he looked into Aris's eyes. "You can regroup with the others since we don't know where we are going."
Aris nodded and slowly changed her appearance and a puff of black smoke appeared beside Rasmus, taking the maid's appearance. Rasmus and Rullein immediately approached Aider and went into the carriage, leaving Aris behind on her own. Aris looked around for a moment, realizing that used to be fine on her own, but after being by Rasmus' side for so long, she felt something was amiss, but she immediately threw that feeling away and left the building.
"Sounds like something happened down there," Rasmus looked at Aider who couldn't stop grinning.
"Yes, we might be going to the beast's den," Aider answered as he looked out the carriage's window, following the five carriages that were ahead of them. "Luke is a mysterious one, and I want to dissect him, I want to wear his face..." He giggled mischievously.
"That would be hard," Rullein pointed out as she looked at her nails. "That man is marked as well, different from Aris' but marked by the demons," she revealed.
"So the ones who have connections are being marked?" Rasmus raised his brows as he wondered where Luke was going to take them.
"That's possible, and I might be able to leave a similar mark on anyone since I have devoured a Prime Lord. If you want Aider to become Luke and tell me to put a mark on him, it won't do anything because they will know when Luke died," Rullein said as she crossed her arms and legs. "Unless we don't kill him and I put him in my spatial space, keeping him in that space for as long as you want," she suggested.
"Yes, let's do that," Rasmus nodded as he closed his eyes.
Aider and Rullein grinned, finding this whole plan exciting. Aider then explained what happened in the meeting room to Rasmus, revealing the Wraiths' plan to disturb peace and trust among the nobles and the people.
It was as Rasmus had expected that Luke was bringing them out of the city, and wondered how far he would take them. He didn't know if Aris was following them or not, but he knew for sure that the Blackhands were following them. On the other hand, Rullein decided to go to Luke's carriage, hiding her presence once again. However, she was surprised that Luke didn't even open his mouth nor the mysterious man that sat across from him the whole journey.
To Rasmus' surprise, Luke brought them to the Sun Empire's capital city, the City of Sun. He was in disbelief that the Wraiths were hiding right under the strongest and most powerful empire's nose. They were brought to the northwest of the city where hundreds of mansions that belonged to the empire's senates were living.
"What a surprise that one of the senates is a part of the this..." Rasmus muttered as he looked at the mansions wherever he looked. "Anybody is innocent until proven guilty," a tug of a smile appeared on one corner of his lips.
"Sounds like a world is doomed if we are living in that kind of world," Aider giggled.
"How so?" Rasmus glanced at Aider with his brows raised.
"How so? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror? You're the reason why this world still let someone like you out here, alive," Aider grinned and laughed cruelly.
Rasmus chuckled and nodded with understanding as he leaned back, staring out the window.
They arrived at the mansion made of white marble that looked unique compared to the other mansions. Aider and the other ringleaders were in disbelief, having the same thought as Rasmus that the fact a senate was a part of them, a part of the demonic cult. They wondered who it was, and if that person was the one they had been calling as the Lord.
"Come..." Luke said as he walked toward the door and the butler opened the door for him as if they had expected their arrival.
Everyone walked into the mansion and was immediately welcomed by a big painting of the family that owned the mansion. They saw a man in his senate attire, a gold robe with red cloth rested on his right shoulder down to the floor. The man had gray hair and striking blue eyes, someone that looked so dignified and could be relied on based on his posture and expression.
"Senator Orlean Xerxes..." Aider muttered, knowing who that man was based on Krus' memories. "Who would have thought," he scoffed, beginning to act like Krus.
"Is he the Lord, Luke?" Mira asked, staring at Luke who was walking in front of them.
"Do you think the Lord is someone as insignificant as Senator Xerxes?" Luke asked back without looking back and followed where the butler was guiding them. "Senator Xerxes is just one of us, but he's playing in the higher table than ours, that's all that you need to know," he explained.
Everyone was baffled by Luke's words that someone as powerful as the Senate of the Sun Empire would be insignificant compared to the Lord. They couldn't help but be fully invested in who was the Lord and what kind of person he was. However, their thoughts stopped when they were guided into a big parlor room, a combination of marble white and gold frames for the chair, mirror, and paintings.
Rasmus and Rullein were forced to stay outside the parlor, acting like proper butler and maid. They both looked around the hallway where guards were stationed in every corner of the mansion, and ever since they entered the mansion, they felt a powerful demonic energy, and it was below them again.
"What a place..." Mira looked around, admiring the room. "Why are we here, Luke? Are we going to stay here from now on?" She turned around to look at Luke.
"You'll see," Luke answered, sitting on the couch and looking out the window.
Everyone waited in the parlor for an hour until Orlean came in, and they all stood up to greet him. He didn't say a word to them since he already knew who they were, and he didn't let them speak either as he pulled one of the candle holder that opened the wall in the parlor room. Everyone was shocked when Orlean walked in with Luke, and they guessed that they had to follow them.
They walked down the spiral stairs that seemed to have no end since they had been walking down the stairs for a whole minute. They could feel the sudden chill and dampness in the air, wondering where they were being taken to. After what it felt like five minutes, they reached the bottom, and that was when they were in disbelief of their location. It was a massive and spacious cave with so little light and they could see the massive 30 foot stone double doors in the distance.
"What is this place..." Normen asked, his voice echoed throughout the cave.
"Stop asking question," Luke said coldly as he walked beside Orlean and the mysterious man toward the door. "You'll know when we are there."
The mysterious man stood in front of the door and slowly pushed it open. The way it made the whole cave tremble, they knew the double doors were heavy for anyone to open it. The moment it opened, everyone was stunned, terrified even.
"This thing is right underneath the city?" Jurgen's eyes widened as he stared at statues on the cave walls each more than 50 feet tall. "Who are these people?" He asked as he looked at the statues of men and women wearing weird attires that they had never seen before.
"They're the Zevrathi family members, someone that our Lord knows personally," Luke answered. "All of you have shown your loyalty for decades, and this day has finally come for all of you to join us, to be a part of the bigger picture," he said as he looked over his shoulder at them.
