Chapter 5: The Chalk Incident
The next morning, Vardan walked into school feeling… different. Taller. Stronger. His reflection in the glass doors showed it too. He wasn't the same timid kid anymore. Months of training under Jenkins had left him leaner and sharper. His posture had changed, and for the first time, his school uniform actually fit well.
As he walked down the hall, he noticed something else—eyes. A lot of eyes. Girls whispered and giggled. Even some teachers did a double-take.
Vardan felt his face heat up. Am I blushing?
From the other side of the hall, Darren—the lead bully—narrowed his eyes. His girlfriend, Mia, was staring at Vardan like she'd just seen the lead actor in a romance movie.
Darren's face twisted in anger.
15 Minutes Before Class – The Showdown
Darren and his gang cornered Vardan by the lockers. Darren cracked his knuckles, trying to look intimidating. "Look at you, pretty boy. Think you're cool now, huh?"
Vardan scratched the back of his head, already predicting what was coming.
"Darren, I'm not in the mood—"
Darren swung his fist. Vardan stepped to the side effortlessly, and Darren's punch hit nothing but air.
The hallway went silent.
"…Did he just dodge that?" someone whispered.
Darren growled. "Get him!"
His friends swarmed Vardan. Fists flew, but Vardan moved with ease—sidestepping, ducking, weaving like he had all the time in the world. The months of Jenkins' brutal training had turned Vardan into a human dodgeball champion.
One bully lunged at him. Vardan shifted his weight and delivered a swift uppercut. The bully's eyes rolled back, and he dropped like a sack of potatoes.
The crowd gasped.
Next, Vardan snapped into a taekwondo kick, sending another flying into a locker. Then, a karate chop to the neck. One by one, the bullies crumpled to the ground.
Soon, only Darren was left standing.
Darren turned and saw Mia watching closely. His face flushed red with embarrassment. Losing to Vardan was bad. Losing in front of her? Unacceptable.
With a shout, Darren charged.
Vardan didn't move.
At the last second, he vaulted over a group of students, landing gracefully near the teacher's desk. The crowd turned to follow him.
Vardan calmly picked up a piece of chalk from the tray.
The room went dead silent.
"…What is he doing?" one student whispered.
Darren looked around, confused. "You seriously think you can fight me with chalk?"
Vardan said nothing. He simply raised the chalk, squinted, and flicked it like a dart.
SMACK!
The chalk struck Darren square in the forehead. His eyes crossed, and with a dazed grunt, he collapsed backward.
Everyone stared in disbelief.
"…Did he just—"
"—knock out Darren with chalk?"
The janitor, Jenkins, stood at the end of the hallway, mopping. He watched the whole thing with a grin.
Moments Later – The Aftermath
The bell rang. Students scrambled to their seats as the teacher entered. She stopped mid-step, staring at the pile of bullies groaning on the floor.
"…What happened here?" she asked.
No one said a word. Then, Mia casually shrugged. "I don't know, Miss. They just… fell."
Vardan smiled to himself, taking his seat as if nothing happened.
From the hallway, Jenkins muttered under his breath, "Good kid."
