Chapter 368: Making a Fuss Over a Minor Issue
Although Su Muchen was the deputy director of the finance bureau before, everyone knows that a deputy position within the system is worthless, and their words don't hold any weight.
This financial mess in the county was initially left by the predecessor, and it's a massively chaotic situation. Holding her accountable indeed seems unreasonable.
Seeing her look towards him, Lin Hao interjected, "Director Wang, the finance bureau's issues are due to our county government's lack of supervision. Let's first carry out internal rectification. Because it's currently a tumultuous time, with people on edge, let's not make such a big scene?"
"County Magistrate Lin, this is not about making a big scene, but about raising awareness among everyone. We can't just go with the flow and let things slide. Such inaction must be strictly combated," Director Wang insisted.
In front of so many people, this director was giving no face, and Lin Hao's expression darkened.
"Then what does Director Wang suggest we do?" Lin Hao's voice was cold as frost.
Director Wang noticed Lin Hao's discontent and turned to stare at him, his eyes blazing with a fiery intensity, as if he wanted to melt Lin Hao.
Time froze at that moment, the entire conference room fell silent, and everyone held their breath, fearing that even their breathing might break the stillness.
Lin Hao did not feel afraid but instead stared coldly at Director Wang, showing not a hint of retreat or fear.
In Lin Hao's view, he had already given Director Wang enough respect. If you don't respect me, why the hell should I respect you?
In the world of officialdom, mutual respect is necessary. Since you don't respect me, why should I respect you?
At this moment, Lin Hao's WeChat short message notification sounded softly. He glanced at it and immediately his eyes lit up.
Ling Feng had sent a message, revealing that this Director Wang had a close relationship with the previously fallen Zhang Yonghong, and was probably trying to give Lin Hao a hard time.
Of course, his targeting of Su Muchen likely had other reasons that needed to be investigated slowly.
After all, Su Muchen had been nominated as deputy county magistrate, and many were eyeing this position. Any trouble on her part could mean a vacancy for someone else.
In just that moment, Lin Hao understood the stakes and saw through Director Wang's intentions.
"County Magistrate Lin, what do you mean by this?" Director Wang's voice also turned cold.
"Nothing much, just thought Director Wang doesn't need to make a fuss over small issues. After all, these historical problems have been reported to Secretary Cao and Mayor Ma," Lin Hao immediately invoked the names of the big figures.
"County Magistrate Lin, reporting is one thing, reviewing is another. This is about work style and principles. How can you ignore it?" Director Wang argued based on reason.
"Director Wang, our work might have flaws, but our work style has no problems, nor will we infringe on principle issues. Don't label us arbitrarily," Lin Hao said without giving him any face.
Seeing Lin Hao stand up for the people below him, one of the colleagues from Wucheng County's finance bureau immediately applauded and loudly interjected, "County Magistrate Lin is right. Our previous director had problems, but it has nothing to do with us. Don't condemn us all at once!"
"Yes, Director Wang shouldn't say we have work style problems. We're just running errands, following orders. How can we be blamed?" another colleague chimed in.
Director Wang, seeing someone from below stand up to speak for Lin Hao, immediately flushed with anger and loudly admonished, "Interrupting a leader's speech isn't a work style problem? Are you trying to rebel?"
"Director Wang, I wonder whose rebellion you think we want to stage?" Lin Hao worried that the people below wouldn't withstand it, took over coldly.
"You… you are disobeying a superior leader's command. That is rebellion!" Director Wang said furiously.
"Director Wang, what do you want to command? Do you know how difficult our county's finances are? Do you know that some of our colleagues haven't received last month's salary? Do you know many didn't get last year's year-end bonus? So don't command anymore. You come and help us solve the financial issues, and we will follow your lead," Lin Hao threw a big mess right at him.
Director Wang originally wanted to be forceful but didn't expect Lin Hao to throw such a big pile of problems at him, making him speechless.
After all, real money is at stake; where could he find it?
Lin Hao's lips curled into a wicked smile, mocking, "What's wrong? Director Wang doesn't dare to take this on?"
"This is your county's financial problem, and it has nothing to do with me. Why should I take responsibility?" Director Wang's arrogance immediately subsided.
"Since you can't solve the problem, then don't continue to create problems. The mess left by the former director should not be blamed on others. Pointing fingers like this, how can you be a director?" Lin Hao retaliated.
"Whether or not I can be a director is not for a small county magistrate like you to decide." Director Wang was furious.
"Of course, it's not up to me, but I will report today's events truthfully to the organization department of the municipal committee, questioning your work capability and suspecting you of having interest exchanges with the former director," Lin Hao said loudly without hesitation.
"What interest exchanges? Don't spit blood!" Director Wang shouted angrily.
"If I remember correctly, wasn't our county's former finance bureau director Wu Jiayao promoted by your nomination? Since this Wu Jiayao is prone to corruption, is it possible you received bribes to promote him?" Lin Hao explained loudly.
"You… you have no evidence, you… you're just accusing me without cause. I didn't accept any bribes!" Director Wang blushed, pointing at Lin Hao and shouting.
"Director Wang, don't be so agitated. Didn't I just say? We are merely suspecting. Your agitation suggests a guilty conscience!" Lin Hao laughed joyfully.
In reality, unfounded accusations like these, especially against superiors, cannot be made without evidence.
But since Lin Hao knew this Director Wang had good ties with Deputy Mayor Zhang Yonghong, he suspected this director might have bribed Zhang Yonghong or offered him certain interests.
Zhang Yonghong has been under investigation by the city's discipline inspection committee for a long time, including issues like keeping mistresses, corruption, and abuse of power, making it hard for him to come back.
Lin Hao intentionally mentioned the former finance bureau director Wu Jiayao's bribery to lead to broader issues implicating him and Zhang Yonghong.
Though he was unsure if Director Wang was targeting him, since Wang was stirring up trouble here, it was disrespectful, so Lin Hao saw no need to respect him either.
