The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1664: No More Masks

Tension crackled in the air like a violent static.

Rex looked at Haxel demandingly.

On one side, he was curious as to what could possibly motivate Haxel to prepare this determinedly to take down Empress Morgana when he was only sent here by one of the concubines, or even multiple concubines, and on the other, he needed to give respect to Haxel.

Just the threat rating from the System alone warned him to give some respect.

Nobody had ever been rated that high.

Nervousness crept into Rex's veins; it's been a while since he last felt this nervous, but the System made it clear already that Haxel is extremely dangerous. He wasn't done with sabotaging the mission, perhaps, he was only getting started.

It was likely the case, seeing the bloodlust coming from him right now.

Rex has to take this seriously as Haxel's next attempts could potentially kill him.

"Nobody could hear us right now," He continued, gesturing to the translucent barrier around them with his index finger. "The Minor Law of Misdirection. I created a barrier with it, so anything you say won't reach the soldiers. So—answer me truthfully. Why are you doing this? Why do you want to undermine the empress so much?"

"Earlier, you said to me that you have no reason. But I doubt that." Rex's gaze narrowed.

Knowing Haxel's motive would be greatly beneficial.

Other than satiating his curiosity, it would also help him find concrete proof that Haxel was the traitor to Empress Morgana. Rex still needs concrete proof—that would make it undeniable that Haxel was the traitor who was sabotaging the mission, or else the deal will be over.

And Haxel's answer to the question might give some insight.

But even then, he remained silent.

It was clear that he still doesn't believe Rex.

"Still not going to talk? Fine, I'll tell you my secret first." Rex raised a finger—and pointed at himself, his eyes steady with a seriousness that he rarely wore. "I'm a visitor to this realm. I'm a native of the Mortal Realm. Believe me now?"

At those words, Haxel and the old man were taken aback.

Both were expecting Rex to say something shocking, but not this shocking.

"Lying… You're lying." Haxel rasped whisperingly.

"I'm lying? Do you even know where I come from? A random man—who nobody recognized, suddenly got betrothed to the princess—and was raised as a knight by the empress, do you really think a man like that isn't sketchy?" Rex's eyes gleamed crimson as his mouth turned to a snout, showing that he wasn't like them. "I'm not a Spirit nor a Demon Spirit. I'm a Royal Alpha Werewolf."

"A Werewolf…?" the old man muttered, then his mind clicked. "I've heard of your kind before."

But soon, his face turned pale.

Not necessarily because Rex turns out to be a Werewolf, but because Rex wasn't from this realm.

Someone from the Chaos Realm would cause a commotion throughout the realm since the Chaos Realm was of a higher realm than theirs, which meant the inhabitants there were far stronger. As for the Mortal Realm, it was a weaker realm than the Spirit Realm.

Naturally, the inhabitants were weaker than they.

However, that only applied when they went down to the Mortal Realm voluntarily.

As for an entity from the Mortal Realm entering the Spirit Realm, that was an entirely different story.

Just the very fact that they could enter the Spirit Realm proved that they were extraordinary, so anyone from the Mortal Realm who managed to dwell here was instantly deemed dangerous—almost certainly one of the top powerhouses of the Mortal Realm.

Of course, compared to the powerhouses of the Spirit Realm, they were nothing.

But a powerhouse of the Mortal Realm would certainly be above average in this realm.

As a knight, someone like Haxel should've been above average, far away from being intimidated by the mere mention of Rex's real origin. Yet his face betrayed him—marked not by caution, but by a deep-seated trauma toward anyone hailing from the Mortal Realm.

His reaction caught Rex's attention, but it lasted only a fleeting moment.

Haxel soon returned to normal again, composed.

"Another one from the Mortal Realm?" the old man exclaimed, his face still suspended in shock. "Not even a century ago, that blasphemous monster, Mirza, arrived and infiltrated our realm. And now, another one came?"

Ignoring the old man's shock, Haxel stared at Rex calmly, "I see. So, you are telling the truth."

He nodded in understanding.

Now, everything surrounding Rex began to click as he turned out to be someone extraordinary.

Had it not been for that, there's no way he could have done what he did.

In a way, it gave Haxel a sliver of comfort—at least his plans hadn't been unraveled by a nobody.

"Seems like nobody could really hear us," Haxel's voice changed into a deeper one—a far cry from his usual, higher-pitched, almost enthusiastic tone that he used when talking to others. "But even so, I can't tell you why I'm doing this. But I can tell you this… you're really starting to get on my nerves…"

Haxel stared at Rex intensely, his eyes devoid of emotion.

Almost like he was so angry that his mind broke.

"Since you're from the Mortal Realm, I'm sure you came for a reason, and that reason got you helping the empress. But that was a mistake. You should've gone down like the worthless peon you are," Haxel croaked, voice laced with murderous intent. "My problem is a lot more important than yours, and since you got in my way too much…"

Slowly, he raised his hand and pointed at Rex, "I'm going to kill you."

It wasn't a mere threat, but a promise.

No matter what, Haxel would kill Rex for daring to get in the way.

"Even if I succeed in getting what I want, or you succeed in stopping my schemes and get what you want—it doesn't matter. I will hunt you down." His voice was shaking with deep anger—that boiled in him like a furnace on fire. "Run to the ends of the world, run back to your realm, it makes no difference. I'll tear your body apart… rip your heart out." He continued, meaning every single word.

His conviction was absolute as his mind was set on killing Rex.

No matter the cost.

Rex's expression twisted into a grim one.

Back in the Mortal Realm, nobody dared to threaten him like this again, and it's for a good reason.

Because no matter what, Rex's willpower and determination will prevail.

Making an enemy of him was scary due to his willpower and extreme regeneration.

Knowing that there was no use talking, Rex's gaze sharpened.

"Careful what you promised," He said, meeting Haxel's eyes without flinching. "If you made a promise to hunt me down, then you must also be ready for the repercussions. You must also be ready to be hunted, and in case you're not aware, a Werewolf is really good at hunting people."

"No matter how smart a dog is, the master will always be smarter." Haxel retorted with a nasty grin.

He then waved his hand and turned to the old man, "Let's go."

Both of them walked out of the translucent barrier.

Along the way, the old man stole a few glances at Rex, but Haxel made sure that he followed.

"He seems close to Haxel," Rex murmured, his gaze fixed on the old man's back. "Maybe he's the one I should approach, not Haxel. He'll talk, I'm sure of it—at least if Haxel isn't hovering over him. But the real question is… will Haxel ever leave his side?"

Moments later.

Once the Faceless Reaper was taken down, the legion could finally regain control over the horde.

A big chunk of them perished, but it was the same for the soldiers, too.

Most were wounded, and some of them died, making the situation no better than earlier.

Rex silently dispersed the influence that Haxel had over the horde with the help of the System, and now, the horde was about to move again. But then, Althea returned to the fold and informed them that there would be a pause to the mission.

As soon as Empress Morgana realized what had happened to the Vinarkin Bubble, she paused the mission.

Even though Rex couldn't be sure whether Empress Morgana used her own powers—or some hidden artifact against the White Mask, one fact was undeniable—the White Mask had been completely immobilized, if only for a moment.

It gave the soldiers and also the nobles a much-needed break.

But Empress Morgana did this not because she wanted to give them a moment to catch their breath.

Rex and the entire legion were surprised to see Empress Morgana arrive above them in her regal red attire, watching over them like a looming Goddess. None of them entirely saw when, but the horde that was still vigorous and rowdy suddenly stopped.

One could see that their eyes were now clouded in a very pale red light.

Almost like they were hypnotized to pause.

And following that, Empress Morgana instructed them to clean up the mess in Vinarkin Bubble, and also paid their respects to the Emerald Fortress. Having the holy land be trashed like that was a blatant failure on their part, and they needed to make it right.

Not even the threat of the White Mask would stop them from paying their dues to the Vinarkin Bubble.

Moreover, they also needed to summon the people of the Vinarkin Bubble back.

Like where Rex left them earlier, they were still hiding, and someone needed to tell them that it was safe now to come out. Since it was a direct order from the empress herself, all of them immediately began to work.

Rex and Haxel stepped into the bubble, about to lead their designated legion.

"My legion and I will sweep the outside. You can clean the inside." Rex said, glancing at Haxel.

"Why is that?" Haxel raised his brow, suspicious.

"I'm a new knight, Sir Haxel. This is my first time setting foot in the holy land. You—on the other hand, have been here before—you know how the inside is supposed to be," Rex replied coolly. "Besides, shouldn't the senior knight take the bigger role?"

Snorting aloud, Haxel strode ahead, gesturing for his legion to go inside the city.

Rex also did the same.

"Remember, I'm watching all of you," He said, turning to his legion. "Only the most diligent will get the reward from me, so do your best to clean up the mess. Now go! The empress is watching, make sure to do well!"

"Yes, Sir!"

All of them replied in a union and spread throughout the outside of the city.

Ethan was micro-managing, while Rex was overseeing their overall work from the center.

Just then, Rex lifted his gaze and saw Empress Morgana levitating above him.

"Your Majesty, do you have something to say to me?" Rex asked with noble politeness.

He was expecting her to bring up the matter regarding the traitor.

But he was wrong.

"I talked with the people, and they say a knight threatened them to evacuate," She said soothingly, eyes boring into Rex like two suns. "The knight even breaks some of their legs to show them that he's serious. Even throwing more to the monsters. Is that you?"

Damn it… I forgot about that. This is your fault, not mine.

Rex forced out a smile.

Since the inhabitants of the city were incredibly stubborn, believing that the holy land was protected by the land and the emperor, the Invincible Apparition needed to use force to make them move. He broke some bones and even tossed a couple to the horde of voidal monsters.

It was drastic, but very much needed.

Besides, none of them died.

The Invincible Apparition made sure they were alive, as that was the deal between them, but mentally scarred them for the rest of their lives. One could argue that he didn't need to go that far, but Rex was already happy that he didn't kill them.

"Yes… It was me. It's necessary."

"Once the mission is over, you'll go ahead and apologize to them. Do you understand?"

"I understand."
