Chapter 798. The Government's Project
The Incubus System Chapter 798. The Government's Project
We settled back into the car, Jill resting in the back seat, still visibly shaken.
The drive back to my house was silent for the most part. Thankfully, the car didn't belong to the association; it was owned by one of Mrs. Clea's friends, ensuring our safety.
As we moved, I initiated a telepathic conversation with Mrs. Clea. 'I need to tell you everything I saw. It was... disturbing.'
Then I explained what I saw.
Mrs. Clea's eyes widened in shock, and though she managed to maintain her composed exterior, I could tell that my revelations had taken her off guard.
'That's... unexpected,' she replied, her thoughts laced with concern.
'Do you think this is tied to the association?' I asked, my voice tinged with worry.
Mrs. Clea took a moment to collect her thoughts before responding. 'It's possible, but from what I know, this doesn't seem like an association project. They usually target older individuals and don't involve experiments like the one you described.'
'So, it's the government project?' I pressed.
'I guess. Each government has its own approach to creating powerful demon hunters,' Mrs. Clea explained. 'Some start training hunters from a young age, while others search for potential candidates. There are even cases where specific bloodlines are targeted.'
I absorbed her words. 'Jill's situation... It's horrifying,' I admitted.
Mrs. Clea nodded in agreement. 'We need to make sure she's safe now. She's been through too much.'
'We have to find a way to help her,' I said firmly.
Mrs. Clea's gaze met mine, determination in her eyes. 'We will. She's under our protection now.'
I also informed her about how I found Jill on the balcony.
According to her memory, Jill hadn't been on that balcony since this morning, but she had been there since three days ago. But she thought she was there for a short time since every time she drank the water, she fell asleep. So, I guessed her mom drugged Jill with sleeping drugs.
Mrs. Clea's brows furrowed in deep concern. 'It sounds like her mother was intentionally keeping her there, possibly drugging her to keep her subdued.'
'Yes, that's what I believe. Or she was trying to kill her,' I confirmed. Yet her strength was extraordinary. If she was a normal kid, she would have already died.
We arrived back at my house, the car ride quiet as Jill sat in the back seat, still visibly shaken.
Inside the house, Jill seemed a bit calmer. We settled her down in a comfortable room, Mrs. Clea sitting beside her to offer reassurance. "Jill, how are you feeling now?"
Jill looked up, her eyes haunted yet grateful. "Better, thank you."
My pets and Celia opened their voices with a mix of concern and confusion since we returned more swiftly than expected.
"What happened? Is she okay?" Celia's worried voice rang out as she stepped closer.
I exchanged a glance with Mrs. Clea before turning to address Celia's questions. "She's... sort of okay," I replied hesitantly.
Celia's brow furrowed in confusion. "Sort of okay? What does that mean?"
I let out a sigh. "Physically, she's fine for now, but mentally... It's a different story," I explained.
Celia's eyes widened in realization. "Oh no... Poor girl."
Mrs. Clea chimed in, adding her perspective. "Jill has been through a traumatic experience, and she's terrified of doctors and medical facilities."
Foxy tilted her head, her ears perking up. "So, are we keeping her here?"
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "For now, yes. But we can't keep her indefinitely. We need to figure out the best course of action for her."
Celia nodded in agreement. "We should find her a safe and suitable place to stay, where she can receive proper care and support."
I nodded back, grateful for Celia's understanding. "Exactly. She needs adoptive parents who can give her the love and care she deserves." Mrs. Clea and my house were not suitable for Jill. We couldn't allow her to get too involved with us.
Celia chimed in, her voice thoughtful. "But with her unique situation and no clear paperwork, that could be a challenge."
I nodded in agreement. "Yeah. It's not going to be easy, but we can't just leave her to fend for herself either."
Celia placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We'll figure it out."
"So, where's she going to sleep tonight?" I asked, glancing between Mrs. Clea and Celia, waiting for a decision.
While I wouldn't have an issue with her staying with me, I knew that my identity as an incubus might raise eyebrows and misunderstandings.
Celia raised her hand slightly, offering a solution. "She can stay in my room tonight. I'll make sure she's comfortable."
Mrs. Clea nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a good idea. I'll work on finding a suitable adoptive parent for her."
I nodded, grateful for their willingness to help. "I'll take care of dealing with her parents. This situation can't be left unresolved."
Jill, who had been quiet, suddenly spoke up, her voice tinged with sadness. She held onto my hand as she looked up at me. "What are you going to do to my mom?"
I offered a reassuring smile. "I'm not going to hurt her. I'll have a serious talk with her since she's been gone for too long."
Jill's eyes held a mix of hope and uncertainty. "Will she come back?"
I gently brushed a strand of hair from her face. "We'll see about that later." I could use my Mind Corruption on Amelia and that politician, but it didn't mean she would be safe from Eldoria's government. One day, the government could use Jill again.
