The Guy Who Tamed Chickens

Chapter 71: An Accident

It was just a normal day like any other.

The sun is shining brightly up high in the sky, giving life to creatures below it.

The day is just beginning and people are just preparing for a long day to come after a night of sleep.

In a dilapidated apartment building on the outskirts of the City Juan.

Luther woke up covered in sweat, while trying to catch his breath as if he ran away from a rabid dog with all his might.

The first thing that the panting Luther did was touch his body specially that part of his chest where his heart is placed.

After doing that, he let out a sigh of relief.

"Phew~ I, I almost thought I died!"

He plops back down his bed and stares at the ceiling.

But not even a 5 seconds passed before he suddenly froze again.

Then he hurriedly sat back up and looked at his surroundings.

Dilapidated walls, old and creaking bed, termite infested ceiling, and a broken wooden door.

Luther felt strange, everything around him seemed unfamiliar but also familiar at the same time.

Von opened his eyes and looked at his surroundings in a daze.

An old dilapidated room with a musty smell in it.

Wooden ceiling that's riddled with holes from the termites that've been eating it.

A few pieces of furniture that look so dirty that it shouldn't even be used anymore.

Basically, Von found himself in a place that he could only call a 'garbage dump'.

"This… where am I?"

With an incredulous look on his face, Von started questioning the situation that he is in.

The next second, a bout of pain assaulted Von.

"Ack! Ugh… What… the fu-"

Unable to endure it, Von collapses on the ground, unconscious.

The day continued moving without Von knowing.

After an unknown amount of time, Von woke up.

Holding his head, he tried to get up, muttering,

"Ugh, what the hell just happened…"

Out of nowhere, unfamiliar memories started surging inside Von's brain, making him pause for a couple of seconds.

Soon, Von sorted out the new memories and a look of enlightenment covered his face.

"World traveling… I can't believe that something that only happens in novels actually happened to me…"

Von learned from 'his' new memories that he took over the body of a 19 years old man who has the same name as him.

The original owner of the body died from an unknown cause, letting Von take over his body.

Knowing that, Von felt some complicated feelings well up in his heart.

In the world of Fizuna, children at the age of 8 can go to the church to check the skill that they possess.

Every being in this world has something called skills.

It is something that those from Earth would be quite familiar with even without having it.

That is because the thing called skills also appeared in digital games that are popular on Earth.

In the small town of Lezan, the morning is just starting and the citizens are waking up after a night of sleep.

Parallel world.

Republic of the Pearl Country.

Olung City.

Jay is sitting in front of his computer inside his dirty rented apartment, staring at his own image on the computer screen.

"Sigh… What the hell am I doing with my life? I knew that this was hopeless from the beginning." he said, feeling dejected.

Right now, Jay is actually live streaming on the BoBo live streaming website.

Unfortunately, as shown on the screen, there are zero people inside his streams.

Meaning, not even a single person is watching him.

Today is already the 2nd week since Jay started live streaming.

These past few days, his stream room hasn't really attracted any viewers.

Even though there are people who enter the room from time to time, they also leave just after a few minutes.

This is mainly because there's nothing really noteworthy in Jay's streams.

He's not handsome nor is he talented.

All he does is sit there, play the MOBA game 'Mobile Mythology' silently.

Without even a background music, people can't help but feel bored after staying for a while.

In the end, everyone stopped caring about him.

With both palms on his face, Jay sighed with a heavy heart.

Putting his hands down, he slumped on his chair and stared at the ceiling.

After a while, he opened his mouth and said,

"... I should stop wasting my time here and start looking for a real job."

Jay is a 19 years old guy who just graduated from senior high school not long ago and is about to enter college in two months.

The reason why Jay tried to start live streaming is all because he needs money!

As an incoming freshman in college, Jay needs to pay for his tuition and other miscellaneous stuff in order to proceed with his study.

Unfortunately, Jay is from a poor family and he is the 3rd out of the 5 siblings.

Because of this, his parents can't really provide much, making it hard for them to let Jay go to college.

Supposedly, they want Jay to stop studying and immediately start working as soon as he finishes senior high school.

But, Jay doesn't really want that because he knows that only by having a bachelor's degree, would the people really recognize him as an individual.

It can't be helped, that is what our society is already like nowadays.

With the failure of this live streaming attempt, Jay has now accepted that there is no longer any other choice for him besides finding a real job.

If he really wants to continue studying in college, that is the only thing that he can do.

Letting out another heavy sigh, Jay stood up from his chair and walked to the kitchen to grab some water.

After downing a glass of ice-cold water, Jay felt a little better.

"Ahh~ That felt good."

Jay felt his stressed nerves relax after he drank some water.

But at this moment, Jay suddenly heard a sound of a bell from out of nowhere.

[Ding!]

"Huh?"

The sudden noise made Jay pause in confusion.

"What the hell was that?"

Looking around, Jay failed to see the source of the sound.

In the end, he just shook his head and sigh, "I guess I'm too stressed that I'm hallucinating sounds."

With that in mind, Jay walked back to his computer and sat down.

"Huh? Why is this…"

However, Jay's attention was immediately attracted to the phone that he left on top of the computer table.

Picking up the phone, Jay noticed an eye-catching notification on his phone screen.

[The 'Book of Achievement' has been installed.]

"Book of achievement? What the hell is this?"

"I don't remember installing anything. Did my phone catch a virus?!"

The look on Jay's face immediately changed at the thought of his phone being infected with a virus."

Hurriedly, he unlocked his screen and opened the 'reliable' anti-virus app to see if there's any problem with his phone.

Jay waited for a bit as the app scanned his phone.

After a few seconds, the anti-virus app finally showed that his phone was clean.

"Thank God, it's not a virus."

Jay patted his chest, feeling relieved.

With that secured, Jay turned his attention to the strange app that got installed without his consent.

After a moment of hesitation, Jay tapped the app icon that looks like a book and launched the app.

[The Book of Achievement]

The title of the app immediately appeared on the screen.

Written in bold golden colors, it somehow gives off a grand and magnificent vibe to it.

Then the next second, it zoomed out and showed that it was a book before finally stopping.

Jay waited for a few more seconds, but nothing else happened.

"Huh? Why did it stop? Is that it?"

Confused, Jay tapped and swiped the screen.

When he swiped his finger to the left, only then did the screen show some reaction.

The cover of the book with the golden title on it suddenly flipped, opening and showing the contents of the book.

However, when Jay saw what was on the first page, he frowned.

[Owner: Jay Cruz]

[Achievements: 0]

[Occupation: None]

"What is this?" Jay muttered.

"How come my name is written here. There is even a picture of me on it!"

Jay said, looking at the upper right corner of the book inside the screen.

"How the hell did this app get my name and even my picture without my consent?" He questioned.

Then the next moment, Jay thought of something and his expression immediately changed.

"This, this can't really be a virus, right?"

Just as Jay was becoming suspicious and inclined to his thoughts.

The sound of a bell once again echoed and this time, Jay sensed that it came from inside his mind.

At the same time, the phone on his hand also sounded and showed a prompt in the middle of the screen.

[It's been detected that the owner of the 'Book of Achievements' has unlocked the book.]

[Congratulations, you got the achievement 'The First Page!'.]

"Huh?"
