The Grim Fate of Those Who Arouse the Wrath of the Most Dreaded Marquis

Chapter 36

“Kyaaaaaaa!!”

“Youuuuuu!!”

The nobles, pierced through their bodies, collapsed, and the screams of their partners echoed throughout.

“What a noisy bunch.”

Jilvol mercilessly pierced the brainstem of the noble’s wife, who was clinging to her husband and wailing.

“Y-you!! How could you!! Do you have no human heart?!”

King Orutas II condemned Jilvol’s utterly cruel actions. However, upon meeting Jilvol’s gaze, he found himself unable to speak further.

“A human heart? You dare say that?”

(Could it be… does he know?)

Orutas, struck by Jilvol’s hate-filled gaze and voice, was rapidly overwhelmed by anxiety and fear.

“Feria Karlmeina.”

“Ah…”

“You couldn’t possibly not know her, right? She was my fiancée. And five years ago, she was killed by your order.”

Orutas couldn’t deny Jilvol’s words.

“You wanted to exploit the Zabeil Margrave family and manipulate the regional nobles as pawns, so you tried to form an alliance with the Garsmaith Duke House, the leading central noble family, didn’t you? And so, my fiancée Feria was in the way… and you had her killed.”

Jilvol’s voice was pure hatred, and anyone who heard it couldn’t help but feel its malevolence, making them want to cover their ears.

“W-wait!! I didn’t do that!! I never gave such an order!!”

Orutas desperately tried to defend himself.

“Did you think I’d believe such nonsense? The perpetrator was caught, and the trail led straight to you. A man named Jing Martle, the liaison, confessed everything.”

“What?!”

“You probably don’t know Jing Martle since he’s not your direct subordinate. But he confessed that he was acting on orders from someone directly under the royal family.”

“I-I don’t know!!”

“Whether you knew or not doesn’t matter to me.”

“What?”

“What matters is that the royal family was involved in Feria’s murder.”

“……”

Orutas began to tremble violently, drenched in cold sweat.

“No human heart? Of course not… thanks to you, I’ve forgotten what it means to be human!!!”

At Jilvol’s words, the faces of the central nobles were painted with despair. At this moment, the nobles fully realized that there was no hope left for them. They understood that no negotiation would work on Jilvol and his men. Or rather, they realized it instinctively, beyond reason.

“Orutas, I won’t kill you or the royal family here. You still have some use. But the others… they’re expendable.”

The nobles and knights captured by Jilvol’s words shuddered. Even though they were certain they wouldn’t be spared, hearing such definitive words still filled them with overwhelming terror.

“W-wait, please!!”

At that moment, Rusiola clung to Jilvol.

“Lord Jilvol, please forgive us!! It’s true that we committed crimes. But… that’s exactly why we want to atone!!”

Rusiola’s demeanor seemed genuinely remorseful, eager to make amends.

“Rusiola…”

A faint murmur escaped Jilvol’s lips. Seeing this, the nobles felt a glimmer of hope.

“What happened to Lady Feria was truly tragic… but to hold such hatred… ah…”

Rusiola desperately pleaded for mercy, but her words were cut short.

Jilvol’s spear had already pierced her abdomen.

“What’s wrong? You feel remorse, don’t you? Then you should be able to keep apologizing, no matter the situation.”

Jilvol coldly spoke as he pulled the spear from Rusiola’s abdomen, then mercilessly pierced her brainstem. Rusiola convulsed a few times before going still.

“In the end, your apologies are just that—empty words… utterly worthless.”

Jilvol’s words were spat out with disdain.

“If you hadn’t tried to use Feria’s name, I might have let you live.”

Those words revealed just how precious Feria had been to Jilvol. Rusiola had carelessly trampled on that memory and was executed without mercy.

“Rusiolaaaaaa!!”

Demitul’s scream echoed through the air.

In the next moment, Jilvol’s spear pierced Demitul’s thigh.

“Gyaaaaaa!!”

“You’re royalty. That’s why I won’t kill you here. Be grateful for your birth.”

Jilvol’s words implied that Demitul’s only value was his royal status, but Demitul was in no state to comprehend their meaning.

“Knights and guards, if you wish to switch sides, speak up now.”

Jilvol declared this to the captured knights and guards. His words were like the whispers of a devil. To those who had lost all hope of survival, the possibility of living was a sweet poison they could hardly resist.

Almost all the guards raised their hands. Most of them were commoners and had no desire to die as collateral damage for the nobles.

As for the knights, who held a quasi-noble status, only about a third raised their hands.

“I see. So, you’re traitors now. Of course, I can’t let you have any chance of turning back.”

At Jilvol’s words, those who had raised their hands stiffened.

“Kill those who didn’t raise their hands.”

“Wha…”

The ones who had raised their hands looked at Jilvol with pleading eyes, but his expression showed no intention of relenting.

“S-stop!”

“P-please, don’t!”

The ones who hadn’t raised their hands begged for their lives in frightened voices, but those who had been poisoned by the sweet temptation of survival ignored them. They raised the weapons handed to them and struck down their former comrades.

“Gyaaaaaaa!!”

A horrific scene unfolded, and the royals watched in stunned silence.

“Good. You lot, wait over there.”

At Jilvol’s command, the guards dropped their weapons and trudged away. Their determined expressions made them look like ghosts.

“Now, for the final act. Kill all the nobles.”

“Yes, sir!!”

As if they had been waiting for this order, Jilvol’s subordinates charged at the nobles.

“Gyaaaaaa!!”

“Kyaaaaa!!”

“Please, stopppp!!”

Screams echoed as the nobles’ blood splattered everywhere.

“And with that, the First Stage is complete.”

Jilvol grinned wickedly.
