X1.5.lore - Encyclopedia Infinita

ENCYCLOPEDIA INFINITA

This section appears at the end of each Act (For example at the end of X1.5 – The Hole). It includes additional info and lore, enriching the story. Think of it as extra reading for those who want a deeper understanding of the world of the story. It also allows the author's writing schedule not to slip out of control with the publication schedule.

Default World

Not an actual, physical world, per se, such as Earth, or the Palace, but more of a society that is run on a system—a system that devours everything in its path, leaving behind immense destruction, and return on investment for a special few. The rest, the masses, the 99%, tend to, as some describe, 'just take it in the A$$,' allowing the largest benefactors of the so-called Old Order to continue with their world-destroying activities for self-enrichment. Some Free Folk call these top-dogs 'world parasites,' given their propensity to have a voracious appetite for money, leading to the destruction of the Natural World, as well as the corruption of Humanity.

The Great Death

Jumpers have noticed that wherever Default World goes, a spectacular amount of destruction, corruption and death manifests. Entire civilizations obliterated, and species gone extinct. The Great Death refers to not only the loss of the natural world, but also the homogenization of the human one, into a single system.

The Old Order

Default World is run by a mysterious organization that refers to itself as The Order of the Worlds, nicknamed the Old Order by Free Folk. The Old Order is an enormous, efficient and brutal hierarchy of Shadows, run by mysterious and powerful beings.

The Lord's Shadows

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Beings of great power and knowledge who serve as the guardians, managers and inhabitants of Default World. The system known as the Old Order by the Free cannot exist without their constant efforts. Believed to be Human, the Shadows usually feature black capes and white masks, leading to an expression among Jumpers to call them 'faceless.'

The Shadows represent the absolute leader of Default World, the one who sits upon the Throne of Thrones in the Elsewhere. They carry out his bidding, no matter the Human or natural cost. Most of the lower-level Shadows tend to all have the same exact look, making each individual hard to distinguish—not that it would matter much, as the weakest Shadows tend to all have the same personality anyways. One can recognize such enemies when shapeshifting into locals by noticing their incessant desire to force small talk, the weather being their all-time favorite topic.

The Hole Prison

Maximum Security Complex of Sector 77, commonly known as 'the Hole,' this prison is filled with anyone who dares to fight back against the corrupt government of Grayshroud City. The Governor, known for his questionable approaches to running the city, was found numerous times with his hands in the honey jar, stealing public funds, and syphoning them to his rich cronies at Oilworxx Ultracorp (formerly known as Oilworx Megacorp). The Hole is run by the Warden, or as he likes to be referred to by his inmates, 'Mr. Boss.' The majority of the inmates are of the political kind, or in for petty crimes related to stealing food and supplies, or unable to pay for living expenses. Within the Hole, inmates work 18 hour days with no pay, effectively making them slaves without the title.

Prisoner 99

Szaszo Acrasia. Large Human male from an unknown world. Was first taken into custody by the Empire in Tresbios for a bank heist. Made top wanted by his involvement in the attack on Grand Square of Market North, and the assassination of local war lord, Mitushi. After several lifetimes on the run, Mr. Acrasia was once again apprehended in Default World and finally locked up in the Maximum Security Complex of Sector 77, also known as 'the Hole.'

Grayshroud City

A city of about one million people. The main industry there is oil refinery, and other oil products. The air is 30 times more toxic than the healthy limit, the water is undrinkable, and the food is often tainted. The city serves a large complex of oil storage and refinery, although most of this complex is hidden somewhere. The largest and most notable site in Grayshroud is its dam, serving as a toxic reservoir for Tar Lake, a dead, dark and inhospitable environment for anything that swims, or flies, or walks.
