Chapter 4: A new job
Today is the day, my palms were sweating, I wasn't alone for the interview, there were seven of us, I'm waiting to be called, feeling like I might vomit, so nervous "Alicia white, you're next," oh God, I feel so nervous, I stood up and went into the office.
Ah, I was successful, I believed I would faint, just as predicted I didn't run into Lyon, I was on the brink of leaving the office when out of nowhere I was summoned, I turned around and spotted a stunning woman in her twenties beckoning me, she resembled an actress, "yes, you called?". I approached her and she says, "Mr. Bernard is requesting your presence in his office." What do you mean?
Sitting and anticipating Lyon's call, wondering about his intentions, anxiety overwhelmed me, feeling unprepared "Miss white you may go in" says his secretary, causing me to swallow hard.
I entered his office, located at the top of the building, elegantly decorated with paintings on the walls. The the office was looking magnificent. He sat in all his glory, reviewing my resume. Does he ever age? He didn't appear to be 39 years old, but rather appeared to be ten years younger.
With his jet black hair and chiseled face, this man seemed almost godlike. When I greeted him with a "good morning Mr Bernard," he looked up and locked eyes with me, leaving me breathless. His handsomeness exceeded what I had seen in the tabloids, and simply being in his presence was breathtaking.
Today, I was dressed in one of my finest attire, a handmade dark blue suit, my hair styled nicely, "Alicia" he addressed, oh please don't, I was about to melt, "I suppose we can skip formalities, as your father is a close associate of mine, you have an impressive background, however, you lack practical knowledge", he returned to my resume.
Now is not the time to be blown away, we are discussing my future here "indeed, my experience is lacking" I responded, he grinned, "not everybody has your self-assurance, I'll admit that", I am not very confident, I urgently need to go to the bathroom before I shit my pants.
"What is your decision, Mr. Bernard?" He placed my CV on his desk and scrutinized me carefully, starting from my head, as if I were a piece of art. His long eyelashes were impressive. "It's Lyon," he corrected me, standing up and moving closer to me. Is he flirting with me? I decided to play along, saying "Lyon." His name sounded as sweet as honey, and I saw him freeze in surprise.
Is he pleased that I addressed him using his name? He coughed to get my attention, saying "come to work on Monday, I anticipate your presence, Alicia." I silently agreed, eager to leave. The scent of his cologne lingered. "Thanks Lyon," I said, causing him to stop in surprise again, a hint of sparkle in his eyes.
After leaving his office, I hurried to the restroom, needing to catch my breath and wondering about what had just occurred. I felt as though I had deceived the other interviewees by receiving the job directly from the CEO, who instructed me to begin working on Monday.
I regained my composure, after visiting the restroom, then hailed an Uber home; once there, I dialed Margaret's number.
"Hey there, sweety, how did things turn out?" She inquired, I made sure to be deliberate in my choice of words. "I attended the interview and encountered Lyon, Margaret. He offered me the position," I exclaimed. "Hold on, you mean you actually met him face to face?" I chuckled, she then asked for the full gist, on what had conspired between me and Lyon, Margaret is highly supportive of my infatuation with Lyon. "Not much really...he seemed quite flirtatious though," there was a pause on the other end of the phone. "He was? I'm not shocked, you're beautiful too. How did he flirt?" I bit my lip, "he said to call him by his name, isn't that strange?" I inquired, "he might have said it because he's friends with your dad," she attempted to explain, "and when I called him by his name, he suddenly froze on the spot and even examined me," I can't believe I'm recounting that "he froze? There is a possibility that your crush likes you, but stay cautious knowing his past relationships. Despite your feelings for him, trust your instincts when talking to him okay" I nodded my head as if she could see me from the other side "I was really nervous", Margaret understands me too well, "I bet you were, Alicia".
In the days leading up to my important day at work, Margaret and I shopped for clothing and shoes with the generous money Adrian had given me to fill my closet. Even in my adulthood, he continues to support me, as do my grandparents who always provide me with money. Perhaps one weekend I'll go visit them, as I've been missing them a lot. When I told them the good news of my new job and that I planned to give them my first paycheck, my grandpa was thrilled and suggested I treat myself to a nice meal with the money. We shared a laugh over the phone.
Today is the big day when I begin my new job at Lyon's Enterprise. Upon arrival, I provided my name and appointment details to the security guard as instructed in the email. After giving my personal information, I received a company pass. I was then escorted by the same lady who approached me the other time, she took me to the accounting department and introduced me to my new colleagues and head of department. After greeting everyone, I was shown to my assigned seat.
For some strange reason, everyone seemed interested in me, which I couldn't quite understand - perhaps due to my newness here.
The department head summoned me to his office, where I followed his instructions to sit down. He welcomed me to Lyon's Enterprise and expressed hope that I would be a valuable asset to the company. I was asked to assist my colleagues and familiarize myself with the company's operations, which I agreed to since I lacked experience. Mr. Felix seemed thoughtful as he looked at me, similar to the looks I received from my new colleagues, but I didn't dwell on it. I excused myself and left his office.
"Apparently, she leveraged her physical appearance to secure the position, as she is quite attractive. Miss Williams mentioned that the CEO personally appointed her." Everyone reacted with shock. Suddenly, the strange glances I was receiving made sense. I coughed to regain their attention, and they were taken aback. I grinned, walked over to my desk, and sat down confidently. I don't feel the need to justify myself to anyone. "Do you think she overheard us?" A woman in her thirties asked, "and why does it matter?" The other woman who appears to be at least three years older than me, mentioned.
"Stop chatting and start working," a man in black suit said to my colleagues, I guess he's the supervisor, he approached me and introduced himself "so sorry about all that, my name is Silas", he extended his hand and I took it "Nice to meet you, Silas. I'm Alicia."
