Chapter 470 - The Bishop's Interval
I smile at the arrival of my henc- I mean, The Bishop. It was the Bishop who had just came and spoke.
The man slowly took steps with a dark expression, "What is it that you were saying just a moment ago?"
"The Church will find this man," He pointed to me, "At fault and reprimand him?"
Seeing another man of the church, Selene became a bit afraid. But that fear went away quickly as she looked at his clothes.
The Bishop wasn't wearing his usual attire right now. It was just a normal blue robe with underpants inside. The only reason they think of him as a member is because of his whitish yellow church hat.
She thought he was just another old fool from the nest.
Selene nodded with a holy aptitude, donning her holy trade, "I have recently gotten an acute revelation from her holiness, the mother of all creation that this place holds something tantamount to us."
"Is that so?... Can you give a description of what that may be?" The Bishop played with her for the moment.
But I could see how calm and solemn his face looked. In all the time I've spent with him, the only moment I saw such anger in him was when he saw Keny at the basement.
"That is not relevant to you." Selene said with semi-arrogant behavior, "The goddess's visions are given for specific eyes, you need not know of it. But since you are a child of the flock, it is your duty to help me, I- I mean the church in finding this special thing."
"Selene…"
"What is it, Arthur?"
"I- I don't think it is that important, right?" Arthur's face cracked an awkward smile, "That we have to go so far."
"Of course we must!" She said loudly before taking him by the hand a place away and whispers, "My visions are never wrong… I mean sometimes they are wrong and sometimes I'm just at the wrong place because of the fuzzy pictures, but I'm sure that this time I'm right!"
"Something very, very important is here. You must take it if you want to bring your dream come true!" Selene gave him a very sharp and important look that made Arthur sigh.
He looked back at the Bishop's face and knew something was wrong there.
Arthur thought that the situation might not be what Selene thinks to be. But the girl was too into it to for him to stop her.
They got back and Selene, with a proud chest said with a smug look, "I know that you have a lot of questions and may even want to kneel down to me and talk directly to the goddess, we can do that later. First, help me teach this boy some common manners."
'Boy? I'm sure that I am older than her.' I only snicker as she caught that.
Selene stared daggers at me, "You still laugh at me? You really do not fear the Goddess's wrath, do you? Hah! Just what you would expect from someone who doesn't have faith!"
Both Arthur and the Bishop widened their eyes at that. It was a serious accusation from a sister of the church.
The Bishop looked at me with a pleading look and I give him a calm smile and gesture it was okay.
The Bishop, already sought up with the mess, spoke, "Before I do any of what you said, let me ask again, why are you blaming this man?"
"He denied me access to the cave and since I'm on an important holy mission, it would a crime for anyone to stop me."
"A Holy mission… do you have a Papal Permit for that?" The Bishop asked with a raised brow.
A Holy Mission was a big deal. You couldn't just do holy missions in just the name of the church anymore. You needed to have authentic paper from the church for that.
Selene cracked her teeth at that, "What is with all the question? Are you also doubting me? Do you want who I am?!"
"Yeah, that is another question. Who are you?"
Selene clicked her tongue, "So you also want to disobey the church huh? Arthur, beat them!"
"Me?!" Arthur pointed himself, "What did I do?"
"We're in this together, aren't we? So if they doubt me, they doubt the mission and in turn doubt you too! So you must beat them."
"So you are also with her huh?" The Bishop's cold eyes looked Arthur up and down, "But you still haven't told me your name yet… but if I'm right, that boy called you Selene earlier, right?"
Selene clicked at that, "What will you do when you have my name? Do you even know someone high enough to attack me in the church?"
The Bishop nods slowly, "You're right. What can a mere bishop even do, right?"
"...what?" Selene looked up with a crack surfacing.
"A Bishop couldn't possibly know all the sisters in the church, but surely he must know a famous visionary like you." The Bishop words flowed with sarcastic rhythm, "Yet I don't seem to have any recollection with that name."
Arthur slapped his head as Selene finally felt the bishop's shadow overshadowing her.
"Holy Bi- Bishop, I- I didn't-"
"But you know…" The Bishop tapped his chin with a thoughtful look, "I do seem to hear of a Selene somewhere."
"It couldn't be the same Selene who is known to be quite the chatter-head, could you? Because I'm more than sure that she had only joined the church recently." The Bishop took deep steps towards Selene, before facing her directly, "How could you already rank over me in just a matter of weeks unless you really had a great vision."
"And from my memory… You Did Not."
"…"
"…"
"…Father, I was just-"
"SHUT UP!" The Bishop yelled for the first time, his scream scaring away the birds, "How could you so blatantly barge into a man's house and question his faith? DO you know what a huge crime that is, even if spoken in jester!"
"It could get you multiple lashes as punishment in the least, you could even get excommunicated!"
"Do You Understand What An Atrocious Thing You Did Here, Sister Selene… Or Should I Call You Con Selene, Huh?!"
"Holy Father, Selene didn't want to phrase it like that." Arthur stepped before her, "Would you please find it in your hear-"
"Arthur" I also step forward, "I believe we should step aside for this, it would not be ideal if common men like us invade in the religious comment of the church."
Arthur looked at me, his eyes turning cold before quickly breaking before mine and he nodded.
"Please continue, father. We will not disturb you." I say with a smile and take Arthur away by the shoulders.
Selene looks at Arthur's back with a scared expression but only found screams incoming.
We stop when we were a distance away but could still here the bishops screams.
"You know it is quite astonishing to see you here, Arthur? Weren't you with Elisabeth? Speaking of, where is she and the other (annoying) one?"
"The- They stayed behind. Lord Haiel's health is not we-"
"It always astounds me how you get girls, Arthur. You put two back at home and suddenly catch a new one just like that." I snap my fingers, "Have to say, quite the hot one too."
Arthur looked up with an angry look, "She's not my-"
"But she's not wrong, that loudmouth." My words, pause him, "There is indeed something special in the cave…"
"A Black Ring, I think."
Arthur's eyes widen and I could see a small speck of greed spreading within.
