The Goddess is Sweet and Aloof

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Si Zhilan Successfully Persuaded_1

"You once said that those who study medicine can only heal the body, not the heart." Si Zhilan suddenly let out a bitter laugh, feeling an intense urge to confide for some reason, "Because you will never know what I've endured, what I've faced. Until you really go through those things, you'll realize that this world is intrinsically not worth it."

Qiao Xiaren didn't refute her. Instead, he just lightly laughed. This laugh didn't carry any hint of mockery, as if he was just merely laughing.

"What are you laughing at?"

"Let me tell you a story." Qiao Xiaren looked at her, "I once heard a story. Do you want to hear it?"

"Huh?"

"Once upon a time, there was a 17-year-old girl who was a disciple of a famous doctor with two older male disciples and an older female disciple. One day, she and her older female disciple jumped into a river, and both male disciples competed to save the older female disciple, leaving the youngest one abandoned in the river. The water covered the little girl's head, and she thought she would die, tasting for the first time the feeling of being abandoned by those around her."

"Later, they had the opportunity to enter the entertainment industry. The girl earned a lot of money to support her second older brother's film school tuition. At that time, she had depended on him emotionally, thinking they would end up together. But after the older female disciple made a name for herself, she hooked up with the second older brother. In order to cover up some facts, they told the media that the girl had cheated on the brother causing his heartbreak which led him to be with the older female disciple. They twisted the truth in front of everyone, tarnishing the girl's reputation in the circle."

"Even her oldest brother stepped up at this time to say that he and the little girl also had a past feelings, that they had once lived together and had a miscarried child."

At this point, Qiao Xiaren was already laughing softly, an instant of mockery tinged with bone-deep chill and coldness.

"This is too..." Si Zhilan was too shocked to speak. Having grown up in the Si family with abundant comfort and care, she could never imagine such dark incidents and people in this world.

"Yet they did not stop there. Her elder sister left her to die in a desolate wilderness. When she died, she was only in her early twenties, having just claimed all the industry accolades. Yet her elder sister who was madly jealous of her was cruel enough to send an assassin, leaving her to die in the deserted wilderness."

"Why did it turn out like this..." Si Zhilan struggled to imagine exactly what that woman had gone through. The continuous betrayal and disloyalty from those closest to her ultimately taking her life; how deep must the hatred be to go to such extremes?

That girl must indeed have been incredibly unfortunate.

Qiao Xiaren set his teacup down on the table, his emotions settled back to indifference. He glanced at Si Zhilan, "Compared to her, you are really much luckier."

With that, Si Zhilan found herself unable to argue back. She lowered her head deep in thought and remained silent.

Qiao Xiaren then stood up of his own accord and walked out the door.

By the eighth day, Si Zhilan seemed to have improved a bit. She began eating willingly and was cooperating with Qiao Xiaren's treatment. Her servants were overjoyed and hurried to report this to Young Master Si.

Once the heart's troubles started to ease, the physical problems followed suit. For a woman who had a miscarriage, her body was weak and needed to be well-nourished.

Qiao Xiaren prescribed some gentle tonics to be taken with food. However, the complete removal of Si Zhilan's emotional torment can only be achieved by a certain man.

Qiao Xiaren communicated his thoughts to Si Limo's subordinates. Si Limo immediately ordered an investigation into his sister's situation and brought that man up on the hill.

Seeing Si Zhilan in such a state before, Si Limo never dared to investigate that man, worried it would provoke his sister. After all, Si Zhilan's affection for that man was deep-rooted, which made him afraid of taking extreme measures.

But now, seeing that Si Zhilan was showing signs of coming to terms with her situation under Qiao Xiaren's guidance, Si Limo had nothing to hold back.

Regardless, Qiao Xiaren didn't care about what was to come. He had done his duty.
