The Goddess At My University

Chapter 21: Phenomenon

Breaking News

Reports are coming in of an extraordinary and unprecedented celestial event. Tonight, the full moon has taken on a striking pinkish-rose gold hue, leaving experts and onlookers alike baffled. Adding to the wonder, a brand-new constellation has appeared in the night sky. Composed of twelve distinct and brilliantly glowing stars, this constellation is brighter than anything astronomers have previously documented.

The phenomenon has sparked a wave of curiosity and speculation across social media and scientific circles. Astrophysicists are scrambling to understand the cause of these simultaneous occurrences, with theories ranging from unusual atmospheric conditions to possible cosmic events. Amateur stargazers and professional observatories alike are reporting high activity as people across the globe turn their eyes to the sky.

For now, scientists are advising calm and urging the public to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of this rare event. "We've never seen anything quite like it," one astronomer stated. "It's both perplexing and awe-inspiring."

Crowds have gathered in parks and open spaces to witness the spectacle, with many documenting the event through photos and videos that are quickly going viral online. The question on everyone's mind remains: what could have caused this, and what does it mean for the future of our understanding of the cosmos?

Alice gazed up at the sky, her breath hitching at the sight. "Whoa… it's so beautiful," she murmured, her voice tinged with awe. The shimmering rose-gold hue of the moon and the radiant new constellation held her spellbound. She wondered briefly if Diana was seeing this incredible phenomenon.

Unbeknownst to her, the person she was thinking about was peacefully nestled in Chase's arms, blissfully unaware of the celestial marvel. Chase, however, was far from undisturbed. His body began to heat up subtly, his skin emanating an unnatural warmth. Beneath his closed lids, his eyes glowed faintly with a soft, luminous pink—bright enough to be visible even in the dim light.

A faint frown creased his features as an odd, uncomfortable sensation rippled through him. Yet, somehow, he remained asleep, his unconscious mind refusing to relinquish its hold on the slumbering goddess in his arms. His grip on Diana instinctively tightened, protective yet gentle.

For Diana, however, the moment was nothing short of bliss. Chase's presence seemed to ground her, taming her usual restless and wild sleeping habits. The warmth enveloping her was soothing, like a cocoon of safety and comfort. She snuggled closer into him, utterly relaxed and unaware of the subtle transformation taking place in her unlikely protector.

The next morning, the moon was finally dipping below the horizon, its faint rose-gold hue lingering in the sky like the remnants of a dream. Diana stirred awake first, shifting slightly in Chase's arms. She blinked, her silvery eyes adjusting to the dim light. Chase was still sound asleep beneath her, his body radiating an unusual warmth. His face was slick with sweat, his brow furrowed even in slumber, but his tired features still held an undeniable charm.

She blushed, her gaze lingering on him longer than she intended. His strong arms still held her securely, pinning her close. The heat he was emitting concerned her, though, and she instinctively nudged the covers off them using her feet, her arms still caught in his embrace.

Her thoughts raced as she felt his unnatural warmth. Did my father actually accept my request this quickly? she wondered. The realization struck her with both relief and mild embarrassment. She had been somewhat correct—her father, Zeus, had decided to bestow a gift upon Chase. In Zeus's eyes, any mortal brave enough to take responsibility for his daughter would need all the help they could get. This, of course, would be news to Chase. To him, they weren't even dating, let alone anywhere close to entertaining divine declarations of marriage.

Diana, now reassured that he would be fine, decided to settle back into the comfort of his arms. His warmth was soothing, and she quickly drifted off again.

A few hours later, Chase stirred awake. His body felt drenched in sweat, his limbs heavy but strangely invigorated. The sensation of Diana's weight on his arm was the first thing he noticed. Her presence was oddly calming, but his immediate discomfort over being covered in sweat quickly overtook any other thoughts. He hated feeling grimy—it was a sensory nightmare for him.

Carefully, he shifted and managed to slip out of her embrace without waking her. His arm tingled as blood slowly returned to it, and he glanced at Diana, still sleeping soundly, her silvery hair draped over the pillow. Shaking his head, he turned his attention to the room. Her bags were still scattered across the floor—he'd have to deal with that later. First, though, he needed a shower.

Grabbing some clean clothes, he made his way to the bathroom. As he passed a mirror, he paused. Something felt… off. Was he taller? He straightened and realized he'd gained an inch or two. That was strange. His reflection also revealed another oddity—his vision seemed crystal clear. Normally, his eyesight wasn't bad, but it had never been perfect either. Now, everything was sharp and vivid, like someone had wiped away a haze he didn't know was there.

Frowning, Chase turned on the shower, stepping under the hot spray as he tried to make sense of what was happening. Despite the strange changes, his focus remained on scrubbing away the sweat and grime, letting the water wash away his lingering discomfort. For now, he chalked it up to exhaustion and maybe stress, though the strange sense of energy coursing through him suggested otherwise.

As Chase showered, the water seemed to effortlessly wash away all the grime and sweat as if it was doing the work for him. Unaware of this, he still scrubbed himself down with soap and applied exfoliating cream, muttering to himself about how much he hated being sweaty or dirty. To Chase, being unclean was an intolerable state, so he stuck to his usual thorough routine.

When he finished showering, he stepped out and faced the mirror, still wrapped in a towel, ready to brush his teeth. Opening his mouth, he caught a glimpse of his teeth in the mirror—they gleamed so brightly that he had to shut his mouth immediately. "What the hell?" he muttered, shielding his eyes momentarily. His teeth had always been nice, but this was absurd. He had so many questions, but no idea who could possibly answer them.

Brushing his teeth brought some normalcy back—except for how refreshingly minty it felt, far more intense than usual. He finished and moved on to washing his face, a step he always separated from showering because, to him, each was an enjoyable process on its own.

As he rinsed off and looked at himself in the mirror, he noticed his reflection. His eyes had even more rose gold flecks than before, standing out vividly against the ocean blue. He sighed, exasperated. Something weird was definitely happening. "Am I cursed or something?" he muttered under his breath.

Grabbing his hair dye, he prepared to hide his natural blonde hair again. But as soon as he applied it, his hair shimmered briefly and reverted back to its original golden hue. Chase stared at his reflection, his jaw tightening. Okay, this is not normal. Either his mother had cursed him with even more beauty, or something else was going on.

He finished drying his hair, deciding to give up on the dye for now, and went to get dressed. He had always preferred wearing oversized outfits—they felt comfortable and helped him maintain a low profile. However, as he slipped on his hoodie, he noticed it no longer hung loosely the way it used to. It wasn't tight by any means, but the fit was noticeably closer. The length, which had once extended well past his hips, now stopped just above them.

His sweatpants, typically baggy and pooled around his ankles, now fit properly in length, though the waistband still sat a little loose. He tugged at the drawstring to secure them, muttering under his breath. "At least these still work."

Chase frowned at his reflection, noting how much the clothes highlighted his changed proportions. He hadn't gained weight, but the added height made everything fit more snugly in all the wrong places—wrong for him, anyway. The more he looked at himself, the more he realized something was off. This wasn't just a small growth spurt. Something bigger was at play. "What the hell is going on with me?" he asked his reflection, running a hand through his stubbornly golden hair.

Chase stepped out of the bathroom, his expression clouded with frustration. He was deep in thought, running a hand through his stubbornly golden hair. Diana, who was standing in the living room, immediately noticed his arrival. She perked up but paused as her eyes scanned him from head to toe.

Her gaze lingered on his outfit—a simple dark blue hoodie and dark gray sweatpants. The casual attire somehow made him look even better, and her cheeks warmed as she caught herself staring. But what stood out the most was his irritated expression, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor.

"Are you not changing it back to black anymore?" Diana asked, pointing at his hair, trying to sound casual despite her reddening face. His hair seemed different now, shinier, almost like strands of actual gold.

"I can't," he replied grumpily, his tone clipped.

"What do you mean, you can't?" she asked, confused.

"Every time I try, it just goes back to blonde," Chase muttered, clearly annoyed.

Diana blinked, taking a closer look. His hair was like a halo, catching the light and almost glowing. It was as if someone who was already unfairly attractive had undergone yet another transformation.

It wasn't just his hair, though. His eyes, now flecked with even more rose gold, held a luminous quality that seemed otherworldly. His taller stature made him look more imposing, and when he opened his mouth to speak, she caught a glimpse of his absurdly perfect teeth.

Diana's blush deepened as she tried to suppress the thought that Zeus had gone a little overboard with his "gift."

But Zeus hadn't intended for this. His intervention was limited to granting Chase immortality, a decision that had inadvertently triggered changes in Chase's body. Now sustained by ichor instead of mortal blood, his powers had begun to manifest more prominently, though neither Chase nor Diana had yet realized the extent of what was happening.

Diana grabbed a change of clothes—something comfortable and coincidentally matching Chase's casual outfit—and headed for the shower. Watching her disappear into the bathroom, Chase sank onto the couch with a frustrated sigh. He felt like he should be figuring out what was happening to him, but all he could think about was how much he didn't want to go to the last day of orientation.

Was it really worth going in his current state? It wasn't mandatory; the faculty had made that clear during the previous session. School officially started on Monday, and today, Friday, was just an optional wrap-up. His glowing features and newfound height were bound to draw attention—something he desperately wanted to avoid.

Trying to shake off his irritation, Chase decided to cook. Cooking had always been his way of clearing his mind. After rummaging through the kitchen, he settled on making waffles, eggs, and bacon. He got to work preparing pancake batter, pouring it into the waffle maker he'd splurged on a while back.

As the smell of freshly cooked food filled the apartment, Chase found himself moving on autopilot, the rhythmic motions of cooking helping distract him. By the time Diana emerged from the bathroom, her damp hair tucked behind her ears, he had already plated her breakfast. He poured a cup of orange juice for her and carefully drizzled just the right amount of syrup over her waffles—any more, and they'd be out of syrup before the weekend.

Diana walked into the kitchen, taking a seat at the table. She noticed Chase wasn't making a plate for himself. Instead, he took off his apron and headed to the couch, plopping down with a deep sigh. He turned on the TV but didn't seem interested in what was on.

"Why aren't you eating?" Diana asked, frowning as she glanced at the untouched food.

Chase didn't respond, his gaze fixed on the TV, though he wasn't really watching. His thoughts were spiraling as he tried to piece together what was happening to him. He blamed his mother—it was the only explanation that made sense. But how could he confirm it? He'd never seen her and had long assumed he never would.

Diana, still holding her fork, tilted her head as she watched Chase. He looked deep in thought, his face tense with frustration. She figured he was just hungry. Letting out a small huff, she cut a piece of waffle and walked over to him, holding the fork near his mouth. Reluctantly, she said, "You need to eat," though part of her didn't want to share her food.

Chase blinked, startled out of his thoughts. He hadn't noticed Diana standing in front of him until she spoke. His confusion grew as he stared at the fork. "That's your plate," he said, unsure.

Diana's glare sharpened. "And? It's going to get cold," she said firmly. She hated cold food and wasn't about to let it go to waste.

Reluctantly, Chase took a bite, chewing slowly. The waffle was good, but as soon as he swallowed, his mind drifted back to his thoughts.

Diana frowned. He was still upset. Without a word, she cut another piece and held it up to his mouth again, her irritation growing.

This time, Chase noticed right away. "What are you doing?" he asked, confused.

"Feeding you. Isn't it obvious?" Diana replied, her tone blunt, though her cheeks were faintly pink.

"I can see that, but why?"

Diana sighed like the answer should've been clear. "You need to eat, especially if we're going to orientation. And you look angry, so I thought this might help."

Chase was caught off guard by her concern, which only made him feel worse. He didn't know why she was trying so hard to help him when it wasn't her fault he felt like this. Well... maybe it was in a way.

What Chase didn't know—and what Diana wasn't about to tell him—was that she'd asked Zeus for something very personal. She wanted to marry Chase, even if he had no idea yet. To her, this wasn't just about cheering him up; it was her way of taking care of someone she cared about, even if she couldn't admit it outright.

Chase sighed deeply. "I'm not going to orientation," he muttered, making up his mind.

Diana, caught off guard, blinked at him in disbelief. "Why not?" she asked, clearly surprised by his sudden decision.

Chase glanced away awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "My hair, my height, my teeth… my body is going through some weird changes," he admitted, stumbling over the words. It sounded awkward, almost like he was going through puberty, and Diana wouldn't understand why it felt so uncomfortable to say.

"Does that really matter?" Diana asked, genuinely puzzled. "Why do you hate attention so much?"

Chase thought about it for a moment before answering. "I don't know. I never really minded it when I was younger, but then it started to feel creepy and weird. Even older women would stare, which is… scary, especially when you're just a little kid. And a group of women following you around? That gets old really fast."

Diana blinked at him. "I already told you I would protect you from them."

"I appreciate that, but you can't protect me forever," Chase pointed out. "You're a year older than me. When you graduate, that protection will vanish."

Diana looked at him strangely, almost as if she didn't understand. "Hmm. But I'll be with you for the rest of your life," she said casually, chuckling as though it was a joke.

Chase stared at her, utterly confused. "What do you mean by that?"

Diana chuckled more, realizing she still hadn't told him they were, in fact, married—without his knowledge, of course. She still had to win him over, but seeing his confused expression was a bit amusing.

"Why are you laughing?" Chase asked, his irritation starting to rise.

But before she could answer, a knock at the door interrupted them.

Chase hesitated before opening the door, wondering who it could be. He looked through the glass peephole and let out a sigh. Of course, it was Lila—her huge, infectious smile practically glowing through the door. He reluctantly opened it, and Lila's eyes immediately widened as she took in his new appearance. His height had increased, and his eyes were even more dazzling than before. But then, her gaze shifted to the frown on his face and the sound of Diana's giggles in the background.

"Oh no, brother, has she upset you?" Lila asked, her voice already laced with mischief as she walked confidently into the apartment.

Diana, taking advantage of the moment, shot a sly smile at Lila. "Lila, you should teach your brother to accept his appearance." It sounded like a joke, but Diana was dead serious. Chase needed to get used to the attention, especially with the changes he was undergoing. He would have to learn to shrug off people's stares in the future.

Lila was caught off guard by Diana's request. She hadn't expected her to ask her for help with this, but once she understood the problem, she was all in. "What happened to dyeing your hair?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Chase's annoyance was apparent. Diana had been laughing at him, and now Lila barged in and was, of all things, being asked to help with something he didn't even want help with. "I can't dye it anymore," he muttered, exasperated.

Lila blinked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

Chase, knowing she wouldn't understand, walked into the bathroom, both girls following him closely. Diana was curious, wanting to see it for herself. Chase went through his usual routine, using his hair dye, but once he finished, his hair immediately reverted back to its natural blonde color. Both Diana and Lila stared at him in awe.

Lila was the first to speak. "Woah, so magic is real? Did Mom bless you or something?" Her excitement was evident, and she leaned in closer, eager to learn more.

Chase frowned, feeling a little more frustrated than before. "Actually, that's what I thought. But I think… I think she cursed me."

Lila blinked at him, genuinely confused. "How could that be a curse? You look way more handsome now! And look at those teeth—so shiny!" She smiled brightly, trying to make light of the situation.

Chase could only groan in response, feeling more uncomfortable by the minute.
