Chapter 204: Don't set random flags!
After Dumbledore used his Patronus to fight off the invading Dementors, the Quidditch match ended when Cedric, the captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, caught the Golden Snitch.
Although Cedric planned to request a rematch after learning that Harry had fallen into a coma, Wood, the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, was straightforward and openly admitted Hufflepuff's victory.
On the grass, Harry slowly woke up. When he was unconscious, he seemed to hear the desperate scream of a woman.
However, his attention was not on the woman's scream in his mind, but on asking his teammates about the state of the game.
Harry seemed very upset after learning that the Gryffindor Quidditch team had lost to the other team.
"Harry, are you okay?"
At that moment, Irina and the others approached.
Harry shook his head and said, "I'm fine. By the way, where is my Nimbus 2000?"
Hermione hesitated and said, "Well... when you fell, the wind carried it away."
Upon hearing this, a sinister premonition suddenly arose in Harry's heart: "What... what happened afterward?"
Irina extended her hands and said, "Well, it hit the Whomping Willow. You know, the Whomping Willow has quite a temper. Anyway, Professor Flitwick just returned it."
As she spoke, Irina pointed to a pocket at Harry's feet.
Harry opened the bag, trembling, and saw dozens of splinters and branches fall to the ground. It was Harry's Nimbus 2000.
"I told you not to plant flags carelessly!"
Irina patted Harry sympathetically on the shoulder.
Harry looked at Irina in confusion. It was obvious that he had forgotten about the flag he had planted two years ago, saying that if Professor Snape hadn't brought the troll, his Nimbus 2000 would have crushed the Whomping Willow.
There was no doubt that the flag Harry raised had worked.
At that moment, Harry had fallen into depression over the destruction of his broomstick.
...
In the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class, which was attended by the third-year Gryffindors and Slytherins after the Quidditch match, the young wizards were overjoyed to hear that Professor Lupin had returned to class.
And after learning that Professor Lupin had excused them from the homework assigned by Professor Snape in the previous class, their happiness was greater than words could express.
In class, Professor Lupin showed everyone a Hinkypunk that was locked in a glass box. It was a small creature with one leg. Though it seemed to be made of smoke tendrils, it appeared quite... vulnerable, not threatening.
However, the Hinkypunk is a truly dark creature that leads travelers into the muck, and the lantern in its hand is the tool it uses to lead people to the bog, its deadly weapon!
After the bell rang, all the young wizards left one by one, and Professor Lupin stopped Harry.
"Wait a minute, Harry," called Professor Lupin, "I want to talk to you."
Harry turned around, and Irina, who was about to leave, involuntarily stopped and listened to the conversation between the two with some curiosity.
She was openly standing not far from them, making no attempt to hide.
Seeing that Irina was going to listen, Professor Lupin simply glanced at her and continued. Neither Professor Lupin nor Harry had any issue with Irina's presence.
Professor Lupin did so because he believed Irina had the right to observe their conversation due to her excellence, while Harry simply trusted Irina unconditionally because she was his older sister.
"I heard about the competition," said Professor Lupin. He turned toward the podium and began packing the books into his briefcase. "I'm sorry about your broom. Is there any chance it could be repaired?"
"No chance," said Harry sadly. "The Whomping Willow smashed it into pieces."
Professor Lupin sighed and said, "They planted the Whomping Willow the year I came to Hogwarts. People used to play a game where they tried to touch the trunk. Until later, a boy named Dai from Viggen nearly lost an eye, and the school wouldn't let us get near it anymore. No flying broomstick can withstand it."
Professor Lupin did not tell Harry that the Whomping Willow was actually planted for him.
At the time, Dumbledore had allowed Lupin, who was a werewolf, to attend Hogwarts. To prevent Lupin from harming his classmates when he transformed during the full moon, a path was created from Hogwarts to the Shrieking Shack. A Whomping Willow was planted at the entrance to the secret passage to prevent curious young wizards from accidentally entering the Shrieking Shack and being hurt by Lupin in his werewolf form.
"Did you also hear about the Dementors?" Harry asked quietly.
Professor Lupin gave him a quick look.
Professor Lupin calmly said, "I heard about that, I don't think anyone's ever seen Professor Dumbledore so angry. They've been ready to move for some time because Professor Dumbledore refused to allow them to enter the school. They were very upset... I suppose that's why you fell?"
"Yes," Harry said.
Harry hesitated for a moment, and the question that had been on his mind escaped him: "Why? Why do they have such an impact on me? Could it be that I...?"
"It has nothing to do with weakness."
Before Harry could finish speaking, Professor Lupin interrupted and said decisively, as if he had read Harry's thoughts.
Professor Lupin simply listened to Harry and said, "The Dementors have a greater impact on you than on others. This is because, in your past experiences, you have faced fears that others have never known. Dementors are one of the most horrifying things in the world. They infest the darkest, dirtiest places, living in decay and despair, absorbing peace, hope, and joy from the air around them."
"Even Muggles can feel their presence, and though they cannot see them, when a Dementor is near, all the good feelings, all the happy memories are drained away. If that's possible, the Dementor will suck you dry until you're like... soulless and filled with malice, leaving you with the worst experiences of your life, and your worst experiences, Harry, are enough to knock anyone off their broom. You don't need to be ashamed."
Professor Lupin explained kindly, wanting to encourage the children of his old friend.
"When they approached me..." Harry stared at Professor Lupin's desk, his throat tightening, "It felt like I heard Voldemort killing my mother."
Professor Lupin's arm moved suddenly, as if to grab Harry's arm, but he held back, knowing that now was not the time to acknowledge Harry.
