THE GHOST ASSASSIN ☠️

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Repentance

As the lady assassin stood up, she couldn't shake off the feeling of surprise and admiration for her opponent. She had never met anyone who could match her skills, let alone defeat her. She wondered who this ninja was and what his true motives were.

Meanwhile, Kael made his way back to the safehouse, his mind racing with thoughts of the lady assassin. He couldn't understand why she was trying to kill him, and he couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to her story.

When he arrived at the safehouse, the team was eager to hear about his encounter. Kael told them everything, from the intense fight to the lady assassin's surprising beauty.

Ana's eyes widened in surprise. "You spared her life?" she asked, incredulous.

Kael nodded. "I couldn't bring myself to kill her. There's something about her that doesn't add up."

Elara frowned. "You're not thinking clearly, Kael. She's an assassin. She tried to kill you."

Kael shook his head. "I know, but I think there's more to her story. And I aim to find out what it is."

The team exchanged skeptical glances, but Kael was determined to uncover the truth about the lady assassin.

The next day, in the Baron's abode. Baron paced back and forth in his throne room, his face growing increasingly red with impatience. "Lilith, where is Xanthe? She was supposed to bring me the ninja's head by now."

Lilith stood before him, her expression calm but her eyes flashing with warning. "I'm sure Xanthe is doing everything she can, Baron. But perhaps we should consider the possibility that the ninja is more formidable than we anticipated."

Phoenix, standing by the window, spoke up. "I agree with Lilith, Baron. We can't underestimate the ninja's skills. Maybe Xanthe needs more time."

Baron snorted. "Time? I don't pay her for time, I pay her for results. And I expect those results now."

In the temple, Xanthe couldn't shake off the feeling of curiosity that lingered long after her battle with Kael. Why had he spared her life? She had been sent to kill him, and yet, he had shown her mercy.

As she walked away from the temple, Xanthe found herself questioning her own motives. Was she truly fighting for the right reasons? Or was she just a pawn in a larger game?

Determined to find answers, Xanthe decided to seek out Kael. She needed to know why he had spared her life, and what drove him to fight against the Baron.

Xanthe crept through the shadows, her eyes fixed on Kael's quarters in the safehouse. She had been thinking about their battle nonstop, wondering why he had spared her life. Tonight, she sought answers.

With a swift motion, she appeared at Kael's window, she summoned kael out with an assassin gesture.

Kael emerged, sword at the ready, prepared for a fight. But Xanthe stood still, her hands visible and empty.

"Why have you come?" Kael asked warily, his sword still poised.

Xanthe hesitated, then spoke in a low tone. "I wanted to know why you spared my life. You had every reason to kill me."

Kael lowered his sword, intrigued. "I told you, I don't kill without reason. And I sensed you were different."

Xanthe took a step closer, her eyes locked onto Kael's. "Different? What do you mean?"

Kael sheathed his sword. "I mean you're not just a mindless assassin. You have a purpose, a reason for what you do. And I want to know what that reason is."

Xanthe then asked, " why are they after you?"

"Because of the division" Kael answered.

Xanthe asked again, "who are they?"

Kael's eyes burned with intensity as he revealed the dark truth. "The Division, Xanthe... they're not just killers. They're monsters. They've been using innocent people as experiments, testing the limits of human endurance and exploiting those with gifted abilities."

Xanthe's expression turned horrified. "What do you mean?"

Kael's voice trembled with rage. "They're kidnapping people, subjecting them to twisted tests and procedures. They're trying to harness our powers, to control us. And when they're done, they dispose of us like trash."

Xanthe's grip on her dagger tightened, her knuckles white with anger.

"I was one of them," Kael continued, his eyes haunted. "A test subject. They betrayed me, tried to kill me when I discovered their secrets. But I escaped, and I've my revenge."

Xanthe's gaze locked onto Kael's, her eyes filled with a mix of shock and understanding.

"That's why whoever sent you is after my life," Kael said, his voice cold. "They know I'll stop at nothing to expose them, to bring them down. And they'll do anything to silence me."

Xanthe's gaze faltered, and for a moment, Kael saw a glimmer of uncertainty. Then, she spoke. "I was sent to kill you. But I won't be coming after you again."

Kael raised an eyebrow. "What will you tell your boss?"

Xanthe's smile was enigmatic. "I'll never return there. I'm done with that life."

Kael's eyes narrowed. "What will you do now?"

Xanthe's gaze drifted into the shadows. "I'll find my own path. One that doesn't involve killing innocent people."

With that, she turned and disappeared into the darkness, leaving Kael to wonder about the mysterious assassin who had once sought his life.

Kael watched Xanthe vanish into the night, his mind racing with questions. What had driven her to abandon her mission and her former life? And what lay ahead for this enigmatic assassin?

As he returned to his quarters, Kael couldn't shake off the feeling that their encounter was far from over. Xanthe's words lingered in his mind, echoing a sense of possibility.

Meanwhile, Xanthe moved through the shadows, her heart pounding with a mix of emotions. She had never intended to question her orders or her purpose, but Kael's words had struck a chord. For the first time, she saw a glimmer of a different path, one where she controlled her own destiny.

As she disappeared into the night, Xanthe knew she would never return to her former life. The Baron's grip on her was broken, and she was ready to forge her own way.

But the shadows held secrets, and Xanthe's departure did not go unnoticed. A figure watched from the darkness, eyes fixed on the spot where Xanthe had vanished. The figure's gaze narrowed, a silent vow forming in the darkness: Xanthe's betrayal would not go unpunished.

And so, the threads of fate continued to weave, entwining Kael and Xanthe in a dance of loyalty, honor, and redemption...
