Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The fight of the Assassins
Kael's eyes fluttered open, groggily taking in his surroundings. He was met with the dim, dusty interior of an abandoned warehouse. He tried to move, but his wrists and ankles were bound to a chair. Panic set in as he struggled against the restraints.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. The Assassin. He held a bucket of water, which he poured over Kael's head, shocking him awake.
Kael spluttered, gasping for air as the cold water soaked through his clothes. The Assassin stepped back, his eyes fixed on Kael's.
"Welcome back," he said, his voice devoid of emotion.
Kael's eyes locked onto the Assassin, his mind racing with questions. "What do you want from me?" he demanded, trying to keep his voice steady.
The Assassin stepped back, his eyes never leaving Kael's. "I was sent by my boss to bring you in alive," he said, his voice firm.
Kael's gaze narrowed. "What's my offense?" he spat, trying to hide the fear creeping up his spine.
The Assassin's expression was unyielding. "You killed the Division commanders. My boss wants to know why."
Kael snorted, a harsh laugh escaping his lips. "They were corrupt, cruel... they deserved to die."
The Assassin raised an eyebrow. "That's not for you to decide. My boss will be the judge of that."
Kael's eyes flashed with anger. "Who is your boss?" he growled, trying to hide his ignorance.
The Assassin's smile was cold and calculating. "You'll find out soon enough."
Kael's mind raced with possibilities, but the Assassin's silence was unnerving. Who was this mysterious boss? And what did they want from him?
The Assassin stepped forward, his eyes glinting with a sinister intent. "Time to go," he said, reaching for Kael.
Kael struggled against the restraints, but they were too tight. The Assassin lifted him easily, slinging him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
As they moved through the warehouse, Kael caught glimpses of the dim interior, the shadows cast by the flickering lights. He knew he had to escape, but for now, he was at the mercy of the Assassin and his mysterious boss.
Ava's eyes fluttered open, her head pounding and her mind foggy. She was met with the familiar surroundings of the Sanctuary's safe house. But something was off. Elara was shaking her, her eyes wide with worry.
"Ava, wake up! Kael's gone!" Elara exclaimed.
Ava's mind snapped into focus as she sat up, her heart racing. "What do you mean he's gone?" she demanded, looking around the room frantically.
Lena and Rachel were stirring, their faces etched with concern. "We don't know," Lena said, her voice shaking. "We woke up and he was just... gone."
Ava leapt to her feet, her eyes scanning the room. "Kael!" she shouted, her voice echoing off the walls. "Kael, answer me!"
But there was only silence.
Elara grabbed Ava's arm, her grip tight. "We have to find him," she said, her eyes filled with fear. "We can't lose him too."
Ava nodded, her mind racing. They had to act fast. They had to find Kael before it was too late but before that, Ava made sure that Rachel was returned into her cell.
"Let's move," Ava said, her voice firm. "We'll search every inch of this place. He has to be here somewhere."
The others nodded, their faces set with determination. They fanned out, searching every room, every corner. But as they called out Kael's name, only silence responded.
The Assassin tossed Kael into the back seat of the car, his wrists still bound by the leash. As they sped away from the warehouse, Kael tried to reason with the Assassin.
"Listen, you don't have to do this," Kael said, his voice calm and persuasive. "Let me go, and I'll make sure you're protected, trust me."
But the Assassin's expression remained stoic, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. He turned up the music, drowning out Kael's words.
Kael's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. He had to escape, and fast. He started hitting the door with his leash, trying to break free. But the Assassin didn't flinch.
Undeterred, Kael moved forward, his leg thrashing out to hit the steering wheel. "I'll kill us both!" he shouted, his eyes blazing with desperation.
The Assassin's grip on the wheel tightened, his knuckles white. The car swerved, taking a sharp turn onto a lone road. The bushes blurred together, a green and brown haze.
The car tumbled down a hill, the wheels screeching in protest. Kael's stomach lurched, his body thrown against the door. The car careened out of control, heading straight for the bushes.
In the sanctuary safehouse, Lena's eyes scanned the computer screen, her brow furrowed in concentration. She was trying to access the security cameras on the street, but something was off. The feeds were all down, replaced by a static-filled blackness.
"Guys, I've got nothing," Lena said, frustration etched in her voice. "The cameras are all out."
Ava paced back and forth across the room, her eyes fixed on the floor. "This is not good," she muttered. "Kael's been gone for hours. We need to find him."
Elara joined Ava in her pacing, her long strides eating up the distance. "We need to think this through," she said. "If the cameras are down, it means whoever took Kael is sophisticated. They're not leaving any trails."
Lena's fingers flew across the keyboard, trying to reboot the system. "I'm trying to get into the backup feeds, but it's like they're being blocked."
Ava stopped pacing and turned to Lena. "Can you try to hack into the traffic cams? Maybe we can catch a glimpse of the car they're using."
Lena nodded, her eyes already scanning the lines of code on the screen. "I'm on it."
Elara resumed her pacing, her mind racing with possibilities. They had to find Kael before it was too late. But every lead seemed to end in a dead end.
The Assassin crawled out of the wreckage, his face twisted in a snarl. He pulled Kael out, tossing him onto the ground like a rag doll. The darkness was closing in, the only sound the distant hum of crickets.
With a vicious snarl, the Assassin started punching Kael in the face, the blows landing with sickening thuds. Kael's mouth burst open, blood streaming down his chin.
The Assassin dragged Kael to a nearby tree, propping him up against the trunk. Kael's eyes blazed with defiance, his voice laced with venom. "You're a coward," he spat. "Hiding behind your boss's orders."
The Assassin's face twisted in rage, his sword flashing in the fading light. "Shut up!" he screamed, the blade hovering inches from Kael's throat.
But Kael just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You can't kill me," he taunted. "Your boss needs me alive."
The Assassin's anger boiled over, his fist connecting with Kael's face once more. Blood spurted from Kael's mouth, his head spinning.
As the Assassin stood panting, Kael's gaze flicked to the tree trunk. His hands were tied behind him, but he spotted a branch jutting out from the ground, rough bark scraping against his fingertips.
With a surge of adrenaline, Kael started rubbing the rope against the branch, the fibers slowly fraying. The Assassin's attention was diverted, his chest heaving with exertion.
Kael's eyes never left the branch, his wrists twisting and turning, the rope slowly giving way...
In the Baron's abode, Lilith stood before Phoenix and Baron, her eyes gleaming with confidence. "I see you're both eager for updates on our little project," she said, a hint of amusement in her voice.
Phoenix, , spoke up, his voice low and gravelly. "Indeed, Lilith. What took your trainee Assassin so long? We expected results by now."
Lilith's smile never wavered. "Ah, yes. My Assassin, Kun, has been handling the situation with precision. His skills are unmatched, but even he underestimated the target's... tenacity."
Baron raised an eyebrow. "Kun? Is that his name?"
Lilith's shrug was elegant. "Yes, Baron. As for the delay, I assure you it was unavoidable. The target proved to be more resourceful than expected, but he will not be swayed. He will bring me what I want, no matter the cost."
Phoenix's eyes narrowed. "And what of the target? Is Kun capable of handling him?"
Lilith's laughter was musical. "Oh, yes. Kun is more than capable. He's been trained to handle even the most... spirited of targets. A minor setback like this won't deter him."
Baron's gaze was skeptical. "See that it doesn't, Lilith. We can't afford any more delays."
Lilith's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with assurance. "I assure you, gentlemen, Kun will not fail. He will bring me what I want, and soon."
Sweat dripped down Kael's face, his muscles aching as he worked the rope against the branch. The Assassin's ragged breathing was the only sound, his eyes fixed on Kael's face with a mixture of anger and curiosity.
Kael's wrists burned, the rope chafing against his skin, but he didn't stop. He couldn't stop. Freedom was within reach, and he wouldn't let it slip away.
The Assassin took a step closer, his sword still clutched in his hand, but his gaze flicked to the rope, his eyes narrowing. "What are you doing?" he growled.
Kael's smile was a thin, bloody line. "Just getting comfortable," he spat, his wrists twisting and turning, the rope slowly unraveling.
The Assassin's face twisted in rage, his sword flashing in the fading light. "You think you can escape?" he screamed, the blade hovering inches from Kael's throat.
But Kael just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "I know I can," he taunted, his wrists finally free from the rope.
With a surge of adrenaline, Kael launched himself at the Assassin, his fists flying, his eyes blazing with defiance.
The Assassin sneered, his sword flashing in the fading light. "You're no match for me, Kael," he taunted, his blade slicing through the air.
Kael dodged, his eyes fixed on the sword, his hands weaving intricate patterns. He had no weapon, but he didn't need one. His training had prepared him for this moment.
The Assassin struck, his sword aimed at Kael's heart. But Kael was ready, his hand shooting out to grab the Assassin's wrist. He twisted, using the Assassin's momentum against him, and sent the sword flying into the trees.
The Assassin snarled, his eyes blazing with anger. He charged, his fists flying, but Kael was a blur of motion. He dodged and weaved, his hands striking true, each blow landing with precision.
The Assassin stumbled back, his eyes widening in surprise. He hadn't expected Kael to be so skilled.
But Kael wasn't finished. He grabbed the Assassin's wrist again, this time using his own strength to twist the sword back into the Assassin's hand.
The Assassin's eyes locked onto Kael's, shock and fear mingling in their depths. He tried to pull away, but Kael's grip was like a vice.
With a swift motion, Kael turned the sword back onto the Assassin, the blade slicing through his chest. The Assassin's eyes went wide, his mouth opening in a silent scream.
Kael stood over him, his chest heaving, his eyes blazing with triumph. "You should have stayed out of this," he spat, his foot kicking the sword away from the Assassin's lifeless hand.
The Assassin's body slumped to the ground, his eyes frozen in a permanent stare. Kael stood over him, his victory a hollow one. He knew the fight was far from over. Lilith and Phoenix were still out there, waiting for him. But for now, he had won.
Kael stood over the Assassin's lifeless body, his chest still heaving from the fight. He knew he couldn't stay there, not with Lilith and Phoenix still on the hunt. He needed to get back to the safehouse, to warn the others.
He turned to the car, the wreckage still smoldering from the crash. But it was still operational, and Kael knew he had to take it. He couldn't leave it behind, not with the Assassin's body and the evidence of their fight.
With a swift motion, Kael got into the car, starting the engine. It roared to life, and he put it in gear, pulling away from the scene of the fight.
As he drove, Kael's mind raced. He knew Lilith and Phoenix would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. He had to warn the others, to prepare them for the fight ahead.
The safehouse loomed ahead, its familiar walls a welcome sight. Kael pulled up to the entrance, his heart still racing from the fight.
He got out of the car, his eyes scanning the area. Everything seemed quiet, but Kael knew better than to trust appearances. He went inside, his senses on high alert.
Ava, Elara, and Lena huddled together, their faces etched with worry. They had been searching for Kael for hours, but there was no sign of him.
"I'm getting worried," Ava said, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if something happened to him?"
Elara's eyes were grim. "We have to keep searching. We can't give up."
Lena nodded, her hands clenched into fists. "We'll find him. We have to."
Just then, they heard footsteps outside. The door creaked open, and Kael stumbled in, his body covered in blood stains. He looked tired, his eyes sunken, his skin pale.
Ava gasped, rushing to his side. "Kael! Oh my god, what happened?"
Kael's eyes met hers, his gaze weary. "I...I took care of the Assassin," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Elara's eyes widened in shock. "You killed him?"
Kael nodded, his body swaying. "I had to. He was going to kill me."
Lena rushed to his side, helping him to a chair. "Sit down, Kael. You're hurt."
Kael collapsed into the chair, his eyes closing. "I'm...I'm fine," he muttered. "Just tired."
Ava's hands were shaking as she examined his wounds. "We need to get you cleaned up," she said, her voice firm. "And then we need to talk. What happened out there?"
Kael's eyes flickered open, his gaze meeting hers. "Later," he whispered. "Just...just let me rest for now."
