Chapter 144 Night Watcher Emerges_2
The wounded soldiers are almost entirely immobile.
Taking a glance at the camp's situation, Kana let out a slight breath.
He was afraid he might have arrived a step or two too late; it seems that these troops are still defending the fortress, perhaps they can hold for another day or two?
He couldn't be certain, but at least from the current situation, it hasn't truly fallen yet; however, the battle conditions have made the fortress commander's awareness clear.
They practically have no chance left, and are using this opportunity to evacuate the residents.
"Your Highness?" A voice of confusion came from beside him.
Kana looked over; it was a soldier with only one hand and one leg left, his face still wrapped with bandages, using one eye to look at Kana.
Kana couldn't recognize his appearance at all.
"The Count is in the command camp," this soldier seemed to have noticed that Kana and his group had just arrived, directly guiding them.
Kana nodded at him: "Thank you."
He let the large group wait around the camp and moved towards the command camp with a few others.
As they got near the command camp, soldiers were blocking the way.
"Who are you? I don't seem to have seen you before."
"My name is Kana, leader of the Night Watchers. I wish to see Prince Anistar and Count Vainsha.
Go notify them."
The three soldiers gave him a glance and nodded.
Soon, a sturdy knight walked over with him, and Kana recognized immediately that it was Ichard.
"Your Highness."
"Didn't I say, if possible, don't address me as Your Highness anymore," Kana said.
But he didn't continue the topic and directly asked: "It seems like the situation at Gray Rock Fortress is extremely unfavorable?"
Ichard nodded as he led a few towards the command camp: "Yes, ever since Vitra City fell, the Blood Race's offensive has been relentless.
The frontline battle has scarcely ceased, and our soldiers are nearly depleted... Three days, no, at most two days, we might need to prepare to retreat."
"What about the refugees?" Kana asked directly, his concern focusing on this issue.
Ichard opened his mouth, but they had already reached the entrance of the command camp, where various noisy voices filled the air.
Just then, an officer lifted the camp flap and hurried out.
With the flap lifted, the Count saw Kana outside the camp.
He stood up with a face full of joy: "Kana!"
As soon as this name was mentioned,
the interior of the camp instantly quieted down.
Hmm?
Kana entered, slightly puzzled; what's happening? Why the sudden silence?
For a moment, he was at a loss.
Meanwhile, others scrutinized Kana with assessing looks.
"Quite like a prince, but doesn't look particularly impressive," an officer thought.
"So this is the young man? Far surpasses his age group in ability... very charismatic," the Bishop assessed thoughtfully.
"Surpassing age group in ability, a prodigy, but... not strong enough, not really resembling a royal member," Prince Anistar contemplated.
"Uncle, seeing you in good status puts my mind at ease," Kana said to the Count.
The Count shook his head with a bitter smile: "Thanks to you, otherwise I would have died on the battlefield."
This sentence could only be understood by the blessed Night Watchers.
"The message Black and his team delivered, you should have received it, right? I thought I might meet your team on the road."
Upon hearing this, the Count sighed: "The progress isn't as smooth as hoped, the refugees don't fully trust me, they're too panicked."
"How many do you plan to save? Give up, only save those worth saving, willing to be rescued, and take them back to Lake Shore Village.
As for adequate food supplies, then you can request some aid from the dwarves of Gray Furnace Castle; they might be willing to help."
It seems the number of refugees they can save will likely be fewer.
But that can't be helped.
After experiencing such events, how could the refugees willingly trust any noble of the Safro Kingdom? Even the Count who resisted the enemy to buy them time.
Seeing the Count wanting to say more, Kana directly grasped his arm and shoulder: "Trust me, leave with them now.
As for the Blood Race, I promise you, by next year at the latest we will make them repay in blood."
The Count looked into Kana's eyes and stopped speaking, instead nodding firmly.
After speaking, the Count left the camp, seemingly unwilling to continue the earlier meeting.
Though unsure why, inside the camp everyone seemed to assess him like they recognized him.
But Kana had long been immune to such scrutiny, looking at Prince Anistar, recognizing him instantly as not much different from the game.
Slightly bowing, he said: "You must be Prince Anistar, I've heard about you from my uncle.
Thank you for your previous support, rescuing us from peril."
He naturally referred to the Count being granted a fief.
Anistar slightly nodded at him: "Count Vainsha often mentions you, your reputation precedes you."
"You came with a force now, are you planning to support us?" He asked knowingly.
Kana slightly apologetically shook his head: "I'm sorry, we made an oath. I've come here mainly following that group of cultists."
