Chapter 51: The Purpose
In the rocky wall of the cliff, there was an entrance that was, under the untrained eye, impossible to notice. But for those who had some experience in dealing with magic, spirits and the supernatural, all it would take for them to spot the irregularity was one glance.
Fiorelle began walking forward silently while the two watched.
The mechanism for the secret entrance was quite simple. Dark magic, otherwise known as sorcery, had many diverse spells under its arsenal. Unlike ordinary magic that the Luxiers, Venilons, and a few people gifted with magical abilities used where they could only manipulate the natural elements, dark magic was on a completely different dimension of ability.
It combined the manipulation of elements and the control of the laws of mana, ancient spirits and foul divinity to come up with hundreds of thousands of complex skills and spells. Integrating those frameworks together, the demons were able to build a more advanced system of magic casting. They didn't need to limit themselves by controlling and using the natural elements, because they had the power to break the laws of nature itself.
What the demons had used was the infamous illusory spell. Years ago, before they drilled the land and made it their secret base, the original appearance of the cliff wall had been kept using dark magic. That was why humans hadn't been able to see the anomalies in the gargantuan cliff until Dheinyrus manipulated the imperial army into searching the area.
Thevon glanced at the silent scion of divinity. His golden eyes lacked any emotions that could at least hint what he was thinking about at the moment.
Was all of this a part of his plan? If so, he effortlessly made them dance in the palm of his hands. He utterly took the whole empire under his control without anyone even noticing.
And now, it seemed like the daughter of the Wixorn Clan's head had also been a major part of Dheinyrus' schemes. What would be revealed behind those illusion walls, Thevon braced himself for.
'I never really stood a chance,' he thought to his loathsome self.
Soon, Dheinyrus and Thevon followed behind Fiorelle as she passed through the fake rocks. They had entered the secret base.
Their breaths hitched.
Inside, a whole manufacturing facility was built. It was a wide and spacious hall carved into the earth complete with equipment and high-level infrastructure.
Though it was empty of demons, the three could tell how rigorous they had worked to achieve all of this in a span of a few years. No wonder they weren't so willing to give it up.
Going further, they finally saw the main attraction of the day.
The massive figures that looked like steep hills had become moldy, but in closer inspection, you would be able to notice that their shape resembled that of a man.
It was an army of titans, sleeping deep underground. Giants didn't hold a candle to these monsters in terms of size.
One was comparable to the size of a dragon. An army of them could easily turn the world into a wasteland.
Eons ago, an ancient race that hid far north was said to be the offsprings of fallen gods. They towered above mountains, caused earthquakes with their footsteps, and had ended many civilizations unintentionally just because of the utter incompatibility of their size to the world. They were just too big.
They went extinct millions of years ago for some unknown reason, but now, they were suddenly laid bare to human eyes.
The illustration of a three-eyed man whose footprints were bigger than an entire village, the picture in the books that parents always told their kids about to scare them, was right there in front of them.
"Oh, gods above..." Fiorelle muttered with voice trembling in contagious fear.
The scene was enough to make anyone's knees buckle, no matter who they were. The scion of light himself could no longer hide his dread.
"What are they doing with these things..." he whispered.
He looked at Dheinyrus who was completely unfazed. It was as if he was expecting to see this. Well, he was the one who had instigated everything after all.
Moments later, the scion of divinity spoke.
"Let's go deeper."
Walking past the line of sleeping titans, they saw many things that made their skins crawl. There were human victims that had their body parts experimented on. Some of the titan's flesh were cut open to be studied. And some body parts mutated to the point of being unrecognizable.
It made them feel sick to their stomachs.
They passed through a room where ominous food were stored. They had the same magical properties Thevon had sensed when a bunch of humans were transporting what they called the 'cursed food' into the villages nearby. When they tried to confront these humans about the details, well, their humanity ended.
Dheinyrus walked ahead of them this time, eventually bringing them to a narrow pathway that led to an unknown chamber.
Reaching that chamber, they suddenly stopped.
Two demons were helping someone pack files of documents, some raw materials and jars of ominous body parts into a huge travel bag.
That someone was a human. A middle-aged man with a graying blonde hair.
He looked at the newly arrived figures with widened eyes. Shock was written all over his face.
But it was not out of fear. He didn't even throw so much as a glance in Dheinyrus' and Thevon's direction.
His gaze was fixed on Fiorelle, and her eyes was also glued to the old man.
The moment they saw the intruders, the two demons drew their blades. But the old man immediately gestured for them to stop.
The old man stuffed the last paper inside his bag and tied it close before standing up straight. He then spoke.
"You found me."
Fiorelle looked down at the huge bag and then back at the old man's eyes.
"Are you..." she muttered but failed to finish her sentence for some reason. She then took a deep breath, gathering more strength and then spoke again.
"Are you Sullivan Wixorn?"
The mysterious man smiled bitterly, his eyes screamed of both grief and... regret.
"Yes," he answered.
As he said that, a dark portal suddenly appeared behind him. He looked at it briefly before returning his gaze to Fiorelle. And then he continued.
"You've grown to be a wonderful young woman, Allegra. Or, should I call you Fiorelle?"
The blonde girl's eyes widened, her body became stiff.
Then, what she said next made Dhein's eyes widen in shock.
"You're my real father..."
