The Former Marine

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Meeting the New Family

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Derek was getting ready for a different day at the gym. Today there would be no intense celebrity workouts or military exercises; today, he would meet Stormi and Aire, Kylie Jenner's children. He had a strange but exciting feeling in his stomach. He knew this was a big step for Kylie, and he wanted to make a good impression.

Kylie had texted him earlier, saying she would be arriving around 10:30. Derek glanced at his watch and saw that he still had a little time before they arrived. He set up the children's workout area, set up some kid-friendly gym equipment, and set up a space with balls and small obstacles, something he knew Stormi would love.

He was just finishing lining up the colored cones when he heard the sound of a car pulling up to the gym. He glanced out the window and saw Kylie stepping out of her SUV with Stormi bouncing excitedly beside her and Aire, calmer, in her mother's arms. Derek smiled at the sight, realizing that this moment was more than just a casual encounter, it was the beginning of something bigger. Kylie walked in with a wide smile on her face.

"Hi, Derek!"

"Hi, Kylie," he replied, walking up to her and kissing her briefly but affectionately. His eyes soon fell on Stormi, who was holding her mother's hand and looking at him curiously.

"And this must be the famous Stormi."

Stormi smiled shyly and stepped forward. "Hi, Derek!" she said in a soft voice full of restrained enthusiasm.

"Hi, Stormi! I've heard so much about you. Ready to have some fun today?" Derek asked, bending down to her level.

Stormi nodded enthusiastically, her initial shyness quickly disappearing when she saw the colorful exercise equipment.

"What are we going to do?"

"Well, I've set up a really cool area just for you," Derek said, pointing to the colorful space behind him. "There are balls, cones, and even a little obstacle course. You can run, jump, and have fun!"

Stormi smiled brightly and let go of her mother's hand, running straight to the toys. Kylie laughed at her daughter's excitement.

"She's loving it already," she said, shaking her head affectionately.

While Stormi played with the cones and balls, Derek approached Kylie, who was now settling Aire into one of the strollers she had brought.

"And this is Aire," Kylie said, looking fondly at her youngest child.

Derek smiled and leaned over to see the baby, who looked up at him curiously. Aire had a calm, innocent look on her face, and Derek immediately felt a warm glow for the little one.

"Hi, Aire. You seem like a nice little guy," he said in a soft voice, causing the baby to smile spontaneously.

Kylie laughed, pleased with Derek's interaction with her children. "He's easygoing, most of the time at least."

The two watched Stormi play while Aire sat patiently in the stroller, swinging her legs every now and then, fascinated by her sister's movements. Stormi, on the other hand, was completely immersed in the game, running between the cones and kicking the balls randomly.

"She has a lot of energy," Derek commented, amazed at Stormi's enthusiasm.

"Yeah, sometimes I don't know how she can keep up with it!" Kylie replied, laughing. "But it's great to see her having fun like this. She loves physical activities, so I thought she'd do well here."

"She seems to be a little athlete already," Derek said, smiling. "If you want, I can start teaching her some more advanced things, little by little. Of course, in a fun and light way."

Kylie seemed interested in the idea. "I think she'd love it. The more she can move around and burn off that energy, the better!"

As they talked, Stormi came over again, a little out of breath from playing. "Derek, can you play with me?" she asked, pulling him by the arm.

Derek looked at Kylie, who nodded with a smile. "Sure, Stormi! What do you want to do?"

Stormi looked at the cones and then at the balls, thoughtful. "We can race together! I want to see if you're faster than me."

Derek let out a laugh and stood up. "I guess I could try. Let's see if you can beat me."

The two of them started running around the makeshift practice area, with Stormi leading the way, laughing loudly as she tried to outrun Derek. Kylie watched with a tender look on her face, clearly happy to see her daughter having so much fun.

After a few laps, Derek finally "let" Stormi win, pretending to be out of breath. "You're so fast, Stormi! I think I'll have to practice more to catch up."

Stormi, proud of her victory, smiled widely. "I'm the fastest! I won!"

Kylie, still watching closely with Aire in her arms, approached the two. "I think someone is going to sleep really well tonight after all that running," she said

Stormi looked at her mom and then at Derek. "Can we come back here tomorrow, Mommy?"

Kylie laughed and looked at Derek, who smiled approvingly. "Sure, Stormi. We can come whenever you want. What do you think, Derek?"

"It would be great to have you here again, Stormi. Anytime you want to come play or learn something new, the gym is open for you."

Stormi jumped with joy at the answer, and Kylie kissed her forehead. "Then I guess we'll have a new workout routine," Kylie said, as she patted Aire's head, who was starting to show signs of fatigue.

"You did really well today, Stormi. And you, Aire, were a great observer," Derek teased, tickling Aire's tummy, who let out a small giggle.

As the morning drew to a close, Derek and Kylie helped Stormi pack up her toys and get ready to leave. Before leaving, Kylie looked at Derek gratefully. "Thank you for today. I think this was important for all three of us. Seeing you interact with Stormi and Aire just confirmed what I already knew—that you're amazing."

Derek smiled, feeling more at ease than ever. "It was all my pleasure, Kylie. It was a special day."

They hugged goodbye, and as Kylie loaded her two children into the car, Stormi still waved at Derek from the window. "Bye, Derek! See you tomorrow!"

"Bye, Stormi! See you soon!" Derek waved back, feeling a surge of satisfaction at how happy he was.

As the car pulled away, Derek stood in front of the gym for a few moments, reflecting on what had just happened. This morning represented more than just a meeting with Kylie's children, it was the beginning of a new phase, both in his personal life and in his relationship with her. He felt like he was connecting not only with Kylie, but with his entire family, and it filled him with a sense of belonging he hadn't felt in a long time.

As the day wore on, he felt like he was on the right path, and more than ever, he was ready for whatever the future held.
