Chapter 10: A General
Coming into sight was a man wearing dark black robes, spiked shoulder pauldrons, a strange amulet around his neck, dark red eyes, long white hair going past his shoulders.
"Someone like you being here is something I didn't anticipate. But I'll put a stop to it now." The Mysterious man says with a serious expression on his face.
The sky was suddenly pitch black with not a single inches of sunlight in sight, something was also beginning to form within the skies.
"A General with this kind of power doesn't make any sense." Haru speaks up while gripping his sword.
I have not seen a demon with this kind of power, not one that's a general at least. The left hand was powerful and it was definitely a big difference from this but why would a general be this strong.
"Changes happen Haru. Lots and lots of changes. Now bare witness to a personal creation of mine. Hell's Embrace." He says as spears begin to fall from the skies.
"Mai take cover!" Haru shouts while using his shield once again.
Those spears are coated in flames and I doubt that's the only thing in this damn spell of his. I'm not sure I'll be able to stop the entire thing with my current abilities.
I lack so much of my memory of my abilities, why can't I remember them.
Crack. Crack. Haru could feel his shields defenses beginning to break and it wasn't something he expected to happen.
Shatter!!!! Within seconds of it breaking a spear had immediately gone through his chest.
For the first time in years since I became a hero I could feel pain. A spear going through my chest was the first wound to be given to me by a demon in years.
Drip. Drip. Blood began to drip from the spear that was in Haru's chest as he stood strong for a few moments.
"Mai you must go while you can." Haru manages to say while holding back a cough.
If someone is to die here then I'd rather it be me than her.
"I can't just leave you here to die." Mai says with a sad tone in her voice.
You hardly know me Mai, maybe you aren't such a bad person. Reacting like this to someone dying before your eyes.
The spell cast by the general had slowly started to change from spears raining down to something different. Something that was still forming within the skies.
(Flashes of memories began to appear before Haru.)
"You sure you want to be a hero Haru? It's a dangerous job." Mom says while cooking.
"Of course. I want to protect you, dad, and Lena from the evil in the world." Young Haru responds with a joyful expression on his face.
Yes I did want to protect them all, I still want to protect those who are left. But it seems that the demon lord has really worked to make stronger demons.
A demon capital of this just being a general is something I don't think any hero could've expected.
"Haru, Haru! Can you please show me how to fight?" Lena asks with a sad expression on her face.
She was always good at making me feel bad huh.
"Of course." Young Haru answers with a smile on his face.
I...
"You're the best Haru!" Lena shouts with excitement.
I... Can't leave yet.
(The Forest of Miriel. Lena's View.)
We've decided to travel once again since it seems demons are making themselves known. A hero's duty is calling us all once again but yet I still haven't completed my quest alone.
My brother exists out there somewhere, why I can't remember much about him is weird to me but I'll find him somehow.
"Lena we're getting closer to one of the sightings." Koichi speaks up while drawing his weapon.
A beautiful forest filled with trees full of red and orange leaves all around them, not a place you'd expect demons to be hiding out.
The three heroes all had their weapons ready for the encounter of this demon but didn't see or hear anything around them. Pure silence went throughout the area, other than some noises from small animals like rabbits running over sticks or into bushes.
"A mistake maybe?" Lena questions while glancing around.
"No, something is here." Naoki chimes in while kneeling on the ground.
He was checking for any sort of tracks that could've been left by the demon while the other two remained on guard. Demons weren't always the best at hiding their tracks but that was because they didn't fear humans.
It was a way to bait them into fighting where they wanted them to.
"Do you have anything Naoki?" Koichi asks with a curious tone behind his voice.
"They're North of here. I don't know how many but they're scouts." Naoki mentions while standing back up.
A demon scouting party already? That would imply that the demon lord is getting ready to attack. He couldn't possibly be back right?
The group continued to follow the tracks north through the forest in search of this demon scouting party. As they traveled the forest they slowly began to pick up on some conversations.
"They found a hero. But I heard they got wiped out immediately." A voice can be heard saying.
"No worries, General Zenith will kill him." Another demon responds.
A hero is being hunted? They also spoke of a general which means the next war is coming already.
"We wipe them out now." Naoki says quietly.
They both nodded before sneaking up on the demons and executing them at the same time. It was a small group of three, usually that was the max in a scouting party.
Three dead demons laid on the ground as the heroes pandered what to do next here.
"Perhaps it's time to let the king know." Koichi speaks up while looking down at the dead demons.
At least the guild will be booming with quests for the adventurers again. But that's more work for us too.
