The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 143: One Dead, One Missing

In an instant, the elderly man froze there, motionless.

He looked up at the four police officers once more, and after a moment of silence said, "I didn't kill anyone!"

The brief five words left Zhang Yean and Wan stunned.

Is this gaunt old man really a problem?

Is he truly connected to this case?

Zhang Yean and Wan looked at each other, unable to figure out where the suspicion lay.

At this moment, Li Jian shouted loudly in the interrogation room, "Wan, where did you run off to?"

"Hurry and bring in the next person for interrogation!"

Upon hearing this, Wan quickly replied, "Coming!"

Jiang An said in a deep voice, "Let's go! We'll talk inside slowly!"

The elderly man nodded and walked towards the interrogation room.

As the sound came from the door, Li Jian turned around to take a look.

"What's going on?"

"Didn't I ask you to arrange for him to be sent back home?"

"You brought him back again?"

After interrogating ten people without any progress, Li Jian's mood fell to its lowest point.

Even his voice unconsciously became a few degrees louder.

But when the old man stepped over the interrogation room's threshold, Mr. Ma and Jiang An suddenly walked in.

Li Jian stood up hurriedly, "Mr. Ma, why are you here?"

Mr. Ma's face was solemn as he said in a deep voice, "This elderly man is very suspicious. Interrogate him more thoroughly."

Hearing this, Li Jian was suddenly taken aback.

What does it mean?

I clearly finished the interrogation!

Is there really a need to interrogate such a gaunt old man again?

His face showed confusion as he glanced at Wan.

Where their gazes met, Wan gently nodded.

At the same time, he looked at Jiang An and Zhang Yean, their looks explained everything.

You all understand this?

Am I the only one in the dark?

Instantly, a feeling of helpless suffocation overwhelmed him.

Wan once again handcuffed the elderly man to the interrogation chair.

Mr. Ma said in a deep voice, "Mr. Li, you take a break first. Next, let Jiang An lead the interrogation!"

Li Jian mechanically nodded, only feeling his head buzzing.

Jiang An sat in his chair, asking in a deep voice, "Explain your criminal process!"

The elderly man said in a deep voice, "I didn't kill anyone!"

"I just discovered the body of a female victim in the river, took it home to play with for a bit, and then threw it back into the river."

The brief sentence instantly shattered the worldview of Mr. Ma, Li Jian, Zhang Yean, and Wan.

Would such a thing even happen?

And happen to a gaunt old man at that.

If the four of them hadn't heard it themselves, it seemed like listening to a novel.

However, in stark contrast to their reactions, Jiang An remained calm.

Because that was precisely why he had hurriedly called him to stop earlier.

Regardless of age or lifestyle, they had no interaction.

But in the spatial environment, conditions inadvertently allowed them to meet.

In Jiang An's view, the third person in this case is him.

Jiang An said in a deep voice, "Tell me the entire process in detail."

The elderly man asked, "Officer, do you have a cigarette?"

Jiang An glanced at Mr. Ma, who nodded slightly.

Then, Jiang An picked up the cigarette box on the table, drew one out, lit it, and handed it over.

He smoked a couple of puffs and then recalled, "Three days ago, around 8 PM, I set the fishing net in the Yongming River, near the riverbank."

"At around 4 AM, I went to retrieve the fishing net and discovered a female corpse inside the net."

"When I saw the woman's figure, I wanted to take her home to play for a bit."

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang An asked, "Why did you choose to set the fishing net at 8 PM?"

The old man answered, "Yongming River has been banned from fishing for three years. I didn't dare fish during the day, fearing I'd be discovered and fined."

"I usually set the net at night and retrieve it before daylight the next day."

Jiang An turned to look at Mr. Ma.

Mr. Ma confirmed in a deep voice, "That river is indeed in its three-year fishing ban period."

Jiang An continued to ask, "When you found the deceased, was she clothed?"

"She was wearing clothes!"

"Where are the clothes?"

"I took off her clothes and threw them in the garbage pile in the courtyard."

"Was the deceased wearing shoes?"

"No shoes!"

After thinking for a while, Jiang An asked, "Can you recall the time you installed the fishing net again?"

"I remember setting the fishing net around 8 PM, right after watching an episode of a TV drama."

"At around 4 AM, I went to retrieve the fishing net."

Jiang An observed the old man opposite once more, he appeared to have no signs of lying.

His eyes narrowed slightly, deep in thought.

If that's the case, then the timeframe of the killer dumping the body can be precisely locked into that period.

Jiang An then asked, "On the night in question, did you see any unfamiliar vehicles passing by on your way to Yongming River?"

The elderly man recalled for a moment.

"Unfamiliar vehicles?"

After 2 minutes, he said, "I remember when going to the riverbank to set the fishing net, I didn't see any vehicles pass by?"

"When I went to retrieve the fishing net at 4 AM, I did see a sedan."

"Did you get a good look at the license plate?"

"No, the headlights were very strong! Extremely dazzling!"

"What about the vehicle's color?"

The elderly man shook his head, "Couldn't see it clearly either!"

"The headlights were blinding to the eyes!"

Jiang An continued to ask, "Which road was that vehicle traveling on?"

"The main road inside the village."

"How did you transport the body back home?"

"That night, I rode a tricycle electric scooter to transport the body."

"After you transported the body back, what did you do?"

The elderly man suddenly seemed a bit embarrassed, bowing his head.
