The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 135: Leaving Nowhere for the Murderer to Hide

40 minutes later, Jiang An and Zhang Yean returned to the Jiangtai Construction Site once more.

After the police car came to a stop, Zhang Yean took a DSLR camera out of the trunk and hung it around her neck.

Then, the two of them lifted the caution tape and entered the security room.

Zhang Yean looked around and said, "Last night, two scene investigation seniors thoroughly examined this place. Most valuable items have already been extracted."

Jiang An nodded and walked back and forth in the room a few times before saying, "Is there a cafeteria on the construction site?"

Zhang Yean replied, "Mr. Chen investigated last night. There is a cafeteria on the site, but Zhang Biao is a very frugal person."

"He always lived in the security room and cooked his own meals."

"Cooked his own meals?"

Jiang An was surprised to hear this and looked around.

"I don't see any cooking utensils here?"

Just as he finished speaking, Zhang Yean also looked around.

"Indeed, no cooking utensils have been found. Do you think they might have been burned by the fire?"

Jiang An turned to look at Zhang Yean.

"Senior sister, you probably don't cook often, do you?"

Faced with this sudden question, Zhang Yean found it odd but mechanically nodded.

"Haha, we have a housekeeper who does the cooking at our house."

Jiang An smiled and said, "No wonder you aren't familiar with kitchen stoves."

"Our kitchen utensils are mostly made of iron material. Even after high temperatures, they won't just turn to ash."

Zhang Yean looked around again and blinked.

"But there really aren't any cooking utensils in this room."

"Could it be that they were taken away?"

Jiang An shook his head, "Only the fire department and police entered the scene last night. It's unlikely that anyone would have removed all the kitchen and bathroom equipment."

"Junior brother, what do you mean by that?"

Jiang An replied, "Senior sister, I think the kitchen probably isn't here."

As soon as he finished speaking, he walked out.

Zhang Yean quickly followed him outside.

Outside the security room, Jiang An looked around.

The gate entrance to the construction site was on the left, with a retractable gate; it wasn't suitable for cooking.

He turned and walked to the right side.

After walking 30 meters, they came to the corner of the security room.

A small blue steel-plated room came into view.

Jiang An raised his hand and pointed. "Found it!"

Zhang Yean looked up, incredulous.

"You mean that self-built room!"

Then, the two of them approached the makeshift self-built tin room.

It was about 4 square meters in size, with an independent gas stove and gas tank, and a wooden chopping board could be seen in the corner.

After glancing at it, Zhang Yean said, "Though small, it's well-equipped."

Jiang An's peripheral vision noticed some fresh vegetables and noodles under the chopping board.

Next, he entered the tin house and walked over to the chopping board, where he saw bowls, spoons, a spatula, and a knife rack.

After scanning the room, Jiang An's gaze settled on the knife rack.

Suddenly, his pupils contracted, and he froze in place.

"What's wrong?"

Zhang Yean asked.

Jiang An pointed to the knife rack, "Senior sister, wasn't the crime tool we found at the scene the Zhang Xiaoquan brand?"

Zhang Yean recalled, "Yes! While checking for fingerprints, I noticed the brand of the knife."

Immediately, Jiang An turned and said, "The three knives on the knife rack are also Zhang Xiaoquan brand."

"And it seems this knife rack is missing a fruit knife."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yean recalled the knife found at the scene in her mind.

"Really!"

"The knife we extracted is exactly the same model as these three knives. The handles are all black metal."

In an instant, Zhang Yean's eyes widened with surprise as she looked at Jiang An.

"You mean the murder weapon came from here?"

After a moment, Jiang An looked determined and nodded.

Suddenly, a lot of questions flooded Zhang Yean's mind.

Why were the knives from the rack left under the iron can?

Did the culprit borrow the knife to commit the crime?

Or is Zhang Biao the killer?

...

Zhang Yean stood there, staring blankly at Jiang An.

Just then, Mr. Zhang, wearing a safety helmet, happened to be passing by with another engineer.

Seeing Jiang An and Zhang Yean, Mr. Zhang was taken aback.

He hurried over and asked, "Officers, are you investigating the scene again?"

Jiang An nodded.

He raised his hand and pointed to the blue self-built tin room, "Is this where Zhang Biao used to cook?"

Mr. Zhang nodded, "Zhang Biao was a very frugal person during his lifetime."

"He always lived in the factory's duty room and cooked his own meals."

"Was this kitchen only used by Zhang Biao?"

Mr. Zhang replied, "Only he used it."

"Because the other security team member lives nearby and always ate at home."

Jiang An thought for a moment and then asked, "Do you have any pictures of Zhang Biao?"

"Pictures?"

"Yes, there are photo IDs in his personal file."

"We also took some work photos when we first opened."

Jiang An asked, "Where are the photos now? I'd like to take a look."

"They're in my office."

Five minutes later, Jiang An and Zhang Yean were in Mr. Zhang's office.

Mr. Zhang took out an album from the drawer and turned to the second page.

"These are the work photos taken when our project department first started."

Jiang An took the photo album and examined it closely.

The man in the photo looked very thin, standing at the security booth.

Perhaps the timing of the photo was fortuitous, as the man was caught with his mouth open, showing white teeth.

After just a quick glance, Jiang An suddenly sensed something off.
