Chapter 24: One touch, one kill
I and Paws ran with our tails metaphorically tucked between our legs as Nocturnis's followers—his tribe's wolves—started riling up everyone, circling the clearing. They set fire to nearby trees and houses. But what could I do? There were so many of them.
And let's be real—I'm not Superman. How could a young boy, much less a man, face this lineup of massive dark wolves? And don't even get me started on that guy—the one called Nocturnis. Dude's a beast. A monster. Compared to him, the other wolves looked like puppies. What are they feeding these guys? Do they hit the gym or something?
Paws floated beside me, twisting his tail lazily. "What are you thinking so hard about, nya?" he asked, his tone as smug as ever.
"Nothing, nothing! Let's just quickly find our way out of here. I don't wanna die again!" I snapped, my voice laced with panic. "Hurry, find me a way out of here!"
Paws floated higher, scanning the chaos like some feline scout. After a moment, he came back down, his expression far too casual for my liking. "Follow me, nya! I just found the perfect way to escape, nya!" he chirped, clearly enjoying this way too much.
"Okay!" I shouted, falling in behind him.
Everywhere I looked, it was utter chaos—wolves with dark manes destroying everything, capturing Ashmane wolves, and killing anyone who dared to fight back. The bonfire's once vibrant glow now only illuminated the destruction.
I ran through the chaos, my feet pounding against the dirt as I weaved through bushes and avoided the rampaging wolves. "Just keep going, Silas," I muttered to myself, closing my eyes to block out the carnage. "You only met them a day ago. It's not your concern what happens to them. Just run."
But no matter how much I tried to convince myself, a scream pierced through the chaos, stopping me in my tracks.
A young wolf's cries rang out, clear and sharp, cutting through the destruction like a blade. I instinctively turned back, my eyes locking onto the scene.
A little wolf pup stood over a lifeless Ashmane wolf, tears streaming down his face as he desperately tried to wake them. A large black wolf loomed over the pup, his eyes gleaming with malice.
"Cry all you want," the black wolf sneered, his voice dripping with cruelty. "No one will hear you where you're going."
I froze as the black wolf raised his paw, claws glinting in the firelight, ready to strike the pup.

I had told myself I wouldn't interfere, that I barely knew these wolves. I had convinced myself it wasn't my problem. But as the chaos raged around me, and the claws of the black wolf came crashing down, I sighed. "This is turning into one long day."
The black wolf's claws collided with a shimmering red shield—a fortress of blood—stopping his attack cold. He growled, struggling to free himself, his saliva dripping onto the shield. His yellow eyes burned with rage as he barked, "Who… who are you?!"
I stepped forward, surprising even myself. The fear that had gripped me earlier was gone—completely and utterly gone. It felt as though fear itself had been erased. For once, I wasn't trembling. I wasn't hesitant. I was calm. No, I was... in control.

Your title: Awakened Vampire is upgrading to The First Vampire.
Effect: You are now immune to all fear and mental pressure caused by beings with blood running through their veins.
I smiled faintly, watching the black wolf struggle against the blood shield. Looks like things are finally turning around.
Now, now, this is not the time to get distracted…
I tried to focus, but it was hard to ignore the strange clarity and confidence coursing through me. It was like being high on power—no fear, no hesitation. Just pure adrenaline.
"Ahhh… HAAA…"
My attention snapped back to the black wolf, who was still stuck, squirming against the Blood Fortress. Oh, still trying, huh? Let me help you out.
With a flick of my wrist, I released the shield. The moment he was free, the wolf jumped back, landing on all fours like a spooked cat. His growl echoed through the clearing, his eyes glowing crimson with rage as he bared his fangs.
"I'll make sure to eat you in one gulp, you bastard!" he snarled.
Snap.
Something in me snapped. My vision blurred, and a heat surged through my veins like molten lava. I could barely think, pure anger overtaking me.
"WHAT… DID… YOU… JUST SAY?" I growled, my voice trembling with fury.
He sneered, amused by my reaction. "I said I'll make sure not even your bones are left, you dirt bastard of a human!"
This... motherf—
Before he could blink, I was on him. My hand clamped around his throat like a vice, slamming him to the ground with such force that the earth cracked beneath him. He tried to struggle, his claws scraping against the dirt, but it was useless.
>[Skill: Dragon Step activated.]
"Huh?! What's wrong?" I hissed, pressing my grip tighter.
"Grwahhhh… Gurawwww…"
"Oh, trying to say something, huh? Bitch." My tone dripped with venom, the word finally slipping from my mouth. For so long, I'd held back. I'd tried to control myself, to avoid swearing in this baby body, to keep my thoughts and words clean. But this wolf? This bastard broke me.
"You know how hard it is to keep my fucking sentences clean in this absurd world?!" I snarled, my rage spilling over.
"Grahhhh…"
Thud.
My fist slammed into his head, burying it into the ground like a nail into wood. "Shut up. If you interrupt me one more time, you'll feel pain so bad it'll make death look like a vacation. GOT IT?"
I hissed, my breath ragged with fury.
"Now, where were we? Oh, right—the situations I've endured! Do you know what it's like to be eaten alive by a snake bigger than a mountain? Do you?!" My voice rose, shaking with emotion.
"And through all of it, I held back. I controlled my words, forced myself to not curse in this tiny, fragile body. But you—you had to come and call me a bastard. Well, guess what? This 'bastard' is about to show you how a bastard dies."
My hand glowed faintly green as I snarled, "Drain Touch."
The wolf's struggles ceased instantly as his life force drained from him in an instant. His body shriveled, collapsing into a hollow husk that disintegrated into ash.
I blinked, staring at my hand in confusion. "What… just happened?"
The memory of draining the serpent's life flashed through my mind—hours of effort, pain, and struggle to fully deplete its life force. But now? One touch, and this wolf was dust.
I waved my hand in front of me, as if testing it. "Did it… upgrade or something?"
A small, satisfied grin spread across my face. One touch, one kill. Oh, this is nice.
