Chapter 1593: A Simple Effort (5)
Yang Peili's anger flared even more violently. He raised his hand and pointed at Yang Baihe: "You… Well, well… just great…" His entire body trembled.
Yang Baihe shuddered in fright, her father's gaze was downright terrifying.
"Yang Baihe, I'm putting it out here today: if you obediently return home, you're still a daughter of the Yang Family. But if you don't, from now on, treat it as if Yang Peili doesn't have a daughter like you. When I go back, I'll write a Divorce Document, and from then on, whatever happens to you will have nothing to do with the Yang Family…" He finished speaking and turned to leave.
Yang Ruxin's eyes flickered slightly. This old man seemed to have changed quite a bit. But then again, after going through so much, if he hadn't changed, just how foolish would he be?
Yang Baihe froze for a moment, then hurriedly chased after him. Her mind was reacting terribly fast at this moment. She only had the one or two Silver she earned from selling the table, and she'd already spent dozens of copper coins. After today, she'd need to pay rent tomorrow, and then she'd have nothing left—not even enough to eat. So of course, there was no way she'd sever ties with the family.
Besides, no one can treat her better than her own family.
As she passed by Yang Ruxin, she had originally intended to shoot her a glare. But when she caught sight of Yang Ruxin's half-smiling, half-not expression, her heart immediately felt overwhelmingly frail. She bolted without another word.
Yang Ruxin touched her own face: "Am I that intimidating?"
Gu Can chuckled: "Big sister-in-law is the prettiest."
"Oh wow, I didn't think you were the type to flatter people," Yang Xia burst into laughter.
Gu Can's face suddenly turned red.
"Seeing her tear into that roast chicken just now got me craving as well. You two, go buy some more, and we'll have roast chicken tonight," Yang Ruxin said, casting Gu Can a glance. "Count how many people are at home; don't let anyone go without food."
Gu Can and Long Qia hurried off.
Yang Ruxin then strolled back leisurely with Du Juan.
Unexpectedly, when they arrived at the fork in the road near the village entrance, Yang Peili was standing there with his hands clasped behind his back. It seemed he was waiting for her.
However, Yang Ruxin didn't say anything, not even addressing him. She simply walked toward him slowly.
"Thank you." Yang Peili felt a heavy weight pressing on his heart. He wanted to reprimand her, but it felt as though he had no right.
"You're too polite. We're from the same village, just lending a hand," Yang Ruxin responded indifferently, brushing past him.
"Dani…" Yang Peili called out to Yang Ruxin's retreating figure after all.
Yang Ruxin halted, turning around to look at him.
"Dani, we… we will always be family…" Yang Peili had wanted to say "I'm sorry," but the words wouldn't come no matter how hard he tried.
"Heh…" Yang Ruxin chuckled instead. "If you could've thought this way before last year, that would've been great… Yang Baichuan still owes my mother a beating… The Yang Family, moreover, owes Yang Dani a life…"
Yang Peili's heart sank straight to the bottom of the lake. His lips trembled as he tried to say something, but no words came out.
Yang Ruxin simply cast him a glance, then turned and walked away. It wasn't because she was heartless—these people were just the type of bloodsucking leeches who fed on others. If she hadn't returned and grown strong, she didn't even want to imagine what would have become of Dong Wenxiu or Erni and the others. They would probably all have been turned into tools for the family to exchange for money.
Furthermore, when it came to the matter of Yang Baiyue being alive, the Yang Family had been shockingly cold and heartless. Back then, no one had spared a single thought for how their mother and her siblings might have been feeling.
Now that she was strong, the fact that she hadn't actively sought retribution already counted as benevolence for the sake of family ties. As for anything else, it was better to forget about it entirely.
