The Female CEO Falls in Love with Me

Chapter 56

Li Yan isn't exactly a homebody, but he doesn't have many friends. Today is Wednesday; while everyone else is at work, he has nowhere special to be, so he did some physical exercise in the morning and came out at noon. Aunt Liu's cooking is good, but it's also nice to change it up and eat out.

He drove out and found a restaurant in a bustling area that looked pretty nice and had lunch there. Finally, he decided to watch a movie. Isn't Wen Qianyi planning to invest in a film project? This could also be an opportunity to evaluate the cinema experience.

The new cinema he visited last time left a good impression, even though he had a bit of a mishap with Yu Xiaodi. She plotted against him, leaned on him for a while, and then he ended up being carried out. It was a bit embarrassing for Li Yan, but it had nothing to do with the cinema, so he couldn't blame them.

Tuesday is half-price day, so there was quite a crowd for the movies, but come Wednesday, especially during day showings, there were far fewer people. Like last time, Li Yan bought two tickets directly, unwilling to see the cashier girl's look of pity for single men.

The movie was starting in a while, so Li Yan strolled around the nearby area. He noticed a corner of the plaza where a crowd had gathered.

Watching the excitement was a proud tradition among countrymen! He eagerly joined in to see what was happening.

Upon getting closer, he watched for a while and saw a man and a woman having a dispute; the man was strong and solid, while the woman was soft and slender. Listening carefully, their argument wasn't about a relationship issue, but an economic one.

The man held a wallet firmly in his hand, blocking the woman from leaving. He shouted loudly, demanding the girl return his money, claiming she had picked up his wallet and taken the money, which he needed to pay for medical bills.

The girl's face was flushed with urgency, but her voice wasn't loud enough, nor was she skilled at arguing. She kept shaking her head, saying it wasn't like that, insisting she hadn't touched it and hadn't even opened the wallet since finding it.

The onlookers evidently believed the man more. The girl's reaction was being interpreted as guilty apprehension.

After watching for a bit, Li Yan made a decision and stepped in to help!

Who would he help? Naturally, the girl!

The girl was quite pretty and appeared very delicate, which could incite a man's protective instincts, but that wasn't the main reason. In this situation, he had a stronger suspicion that the man was extorting money, yet that wasn't the main reason either. The main reason was that Li Yan realized he'd seen this girl before, though he didn't know her name. She was the reception girl who had briefed him during his visit to the Prince Hotel that night.

Even though their interaction was comforting, he'd kissed someone; she was his colleague in a way. The Prince Hotel was part of the Paradise Group. A colleague being bullied meant, of course, helping out of camaraderie, not just reason! Besides, the reason was more likely on the reception girl's side.

"Move aside! What's happening here?!"

Letting out a loud shout, Li Yan parted the crowd and boldly stepped between the two. As everyone quieted down, their gazes turned toward him. He flashed an ID briefly at the parties involved and those around them.

"Did you see clearly? What are you all doing standing around here? Move along!"

This remark left the crowd astonished; they hurriedly backed up a few steps, but with this unexpected turn, it piqued their interest even more, and emboldened by numbers, they didn't disperse.

"What's going on?" With a frown, Li Yan directly snatched the wallet from the man's hand. "One at a time!"

The reception girl widened her eyes, staring dazedly at Li Yan, too scared to speak. She felt this person looked familiar.

"Well... bro, here's the deal..." The man hadn't expected this scenario, where a passerby would normally just watch without interfering.

He pulled out a cigarette and offered it to Li Yan while explaining, "I withdrew some money to pay hospital bills, but then I dropped my wallet. I hurried back to find it. This young lady was kind enough to wait here to return the wallet. However, I withdrew five thousand... You know how expensive hospital deposits are. But when she returned the wallet, there was only a thousand left. So I'm just asking her about it..."

"No, it's not like that! I never even opened the wallet when I found it. I have no idea how much was inside, I didn't touch it..." the girl quickly defended herself. Now that the surroundings had quieted down and the man had finished speaking, her soft-spoken words started to be heard clearly.

"Hold on! One at a time!" Li Yan sternly ordered, silencing the girl, "You, go on."

He opened the wallet and checked it.

The man, seeing Li Yan's tough attitude toward both sides, relaxed a bit, his suspicions eased, though he kept holding out the cigarette.

"That's it, really. Sir, have a smoke!"

"Smoke? I should smoke you!" Li Yan shouted, swinging his hand.

The man flinched in surprise at the sudden gesture, realizing Li Yan was just bluffing and didn't really hit him. Confused, he asked, "Sir... what have I done?"

The onlookers were puzzled as the city inspector suddenly changed his demeanor.

"Is your name written on this wallet?"

The man paused, "No..."

Who writes their name on a wallet, anyway?

"What are the numbers on your money?"

"The numbers? I... who remembers the numbers on money!" The man grew annoyed, feeling this was unreasonable. He took out a receipt, "This is my withdrawal slip from today. I withdrew five thousand, and now only a thousand is inside! That's proof!"

"Are you sure your wallet had five thousand and not one?" Li Yan questioned further.

"Yes, I'm sure!" The man puffed out his chest. So what if he's city security? Without evidence, he can't hit me, right?

Li Yan snickered, "Your wallet had five thousand, and this one only has one thousand. You can't prove this wallet is yours, suggesting it's another lost wallet that just looks the same! So, it has nothing to do with you; keep searching for your wallet with five thousand!"

While inspecting, he'd already noticed there were no documents inside that could confirm ownership.

"Damn! Are you trying to scam me..." The man, noticing something was wrong, grew hostile.

"Who are you swearing at?" Li Yan retorted, slapping the man's face, then kicking him to the ground.

The man, stunned by the slap and then knocked down, scrambled up, trying to laugh it off, "It's just a habit of speech; don't take it to heart... I have more evidence, really... There's a card inside. I remember the last numbers, which can prove it's my card, my wallet..."

Li Yan raised his hand threateningly again, scolding, "You just looked at it, of course you remember. I can remember the last numbers on this money too. Does that mean this wallet is mine that I lost?"

The man thought, 'That's exactly the point you're trying to make, isn't it?' but dared not say it, his face downcast, "I didn't look, I just remember part of the card number, but I really remembered the last numbers..."
