Chapter 266: Third Update, Requesting Monthly Pass
Li Yan left when it was already quite late, having only delivered one ticket. Since Huang Ying usually goes to bed early, he didn't plan to go over tonight and would visit her the following day. As for Zhang Yurong and Yue Yao, he would deliver their tickets after they returned home the next day. Thus, the tickets he needed to deliver tonight were for Hai Fu and Wen Qianyi.
He was aware of Wen Qianyi's residence but not Hai Fu's, so while waiting for a taxi, he called Hai Fu hoping to arrange a meeting.
Hai Fu's life was quite mundane, and she rarely frequented places like bars. Previous occasions were related to Li Yan, and now, during the weekend, she was home alone. Seeing it was Li Yan calling, she answered swiftly.
"Didn't you take time off? Finished with your errands?" She was puzzled by how Li Yan seemed to have so many things to attend to, but she didn't press further, as they were adults and understood the importance of giving each other space.
"Yeah, what are you up to right now? How about coming out to have some fun? I have something to give you."
Li Yan spoke earnestly, but given that whenever they were alone together, he seemed to harbor various romantic intentions, Hai Fu interpreted his words in another light, and couldn't help but scoff: "What kind of 'fun'? What are you giving?"
After speaking, she hurriedly hung up. The relationship between the two was somewhat complicated, not like typical dating, sparking genuine feelings only gradually.
Staring at the phone, Hai Fu was a bit dazed, pondering the significant changes in her life since meeting Li Yan, which left her conflicted. Because her impression of herself was so established, nobody thought to invite her to events; when considering changing her image, she feared being viewed as eccentric.
Nonetheless, she had to admit that this man, who unintentionally stumbled into her life, had altered both her brother and her, and she sensed herself sinking deeper into affection beyond mere attraction—it was transforming into emotion.
At that moment, a message arrived on her phone. She checked it, and it was from Li Yan.
Prior to checking, Hai Fu hesitated slightly, silently offering herself a hopeful anticipation—what might he be wanting to say?
"I've bought tickets for a piano concert. If you're free tomorrow night, I'd like to invite you to listen together."
After reading the message, Hai Fu was a bit stunned. She had thought Li Yan was sending a message to make her smile, yet hadn't imagined he was discussing serious matters. She hadn't expected he genuinely had something to give her tonight and wasn't merely inviting her for a rendezvous.
"I'm free." She hurriedly sent back, flustered.
Yes, Li Yan's message had sparked a small excitement in her. Not because she was particularly fond of concerts, but because this gesture demonstrated Li Yan's interest in her went beyond physical attraction. Regardless of their starting point or the future, or even his intentions, at least this counted as a somewhat formal date!
"Tell me your address, and I'll come find you tomorrow." Li Yan sent another message, initially planning to deliver three sets tonight, leaving just two for tomorrow, but now at least three were needed, creating time pressure.
Hai Fu didn't hesitate and immediately sent her home address. Although she had previously taken Li Yan to Shishan Yao's house, she hadn't invited him to her own residence; their encounters always happened at the same bar, which wasn't near her home. Evidently, she initially harbored some caution towards Li Yan. But now, her apprehension had eased, growing more familiar with him, she believed he wouldn't exploit their relationship to stir trouble at work, so sharing her address wasn't an issue.
...
At this moment, Li Yan was already seated in the taxi, directing the driver straight to Wen Qianyi's neighborhood.
On the ride, he received Hai Fu's second message, which surprised him, making him wonder if he sent it to the wrong phone. — Hai Fu's address was the same as Wen Qianyi's!
Li Yan verified carefully; it was indeed Hai Fu's phone. But why would this be the case? Were Hai Fu and Wen Qianyi actually good friends, and Hai Fu was currently at Wen Qianyi's place?
Upon examining the floor and apartment number, he recalled Wen Qianyi's residence. Although they lived in the same complex and building, it wasn't the same floor. Could it be a coincidence, that both chose the same location?
However, if Hai Fu and Wen Qianyi were actually friends... that could be quite troubling! He had previously discussed Hai Fu with Wen Qianyi.
He couldn't help but dial Hai Fu's number.
"Why? This place isn't well-known?" Hai Fu tried to compose herself when asking.
"Yeah, just tell me how to get there."
Hai Fu guided him with directions over the phone.
"Oh, that's where it is! You're a director, I thought you'd be living somewhere more lavish," Li Yan began to probe.
"Lavish?" Hai Fu chuckled bitterly, "You know the housing prices in S City; maybe you, as a local, don't face this burden. It's not like I'm starting from scratch; even after ten years as a director, what sort of luxurious house could I afford? I chose this place partly because the environment is nice, even if the amenities are average; also because the small apartment designs were decent at the time, offering good value for money."
"Oh, I see."
Hai Fu self-deprecatingly added, "Yes, fitting for a leftover woman like me."
Li Yan understood now; Wen Qianyi likely chose for similar reasons when selecting the place. As a business elite with considerable commissions, she was only twenty-five and relatively early in her career. The Lotus sports car cost quite a bit, so she had to budget wisely elsewhere.
Feeling reassured, he comforted Hai Fu before hanging up.
At the driver's urging, the taxi arrived at the complex where both Hai Fu and Wen Qianyi resided. Li Yan's last visit was also at night, so he didn't have much impression of the surroundings; even now, he couldn't discern the intended features.
"Dear Supervisor Wen, good evening!"
As he ascended, Li Yan dialed Wen Qianyi's number in a cheery mood.
Wen Qianyi instantly giggled upon hearing his enthusiastic greeting, "Heh heh… intending to request leave again? Not a chance!"
"I'm merely saying hello, why assume I want time off? Such an injustice!" Li Yan protested.
"Humph, with how you behave, it's clear what you're plotting…" Wen Qianyi herself felt the metaphor wasn't quite appropriate between a man and woman, quickly changing the subject, "If not leave, why are you calling? Borrow money? You're not one to visit for no reason, acting so affably, who'd believe you have no motives?"
Li Yan was speechless but had to acknowledge that Wen Qianyi understood him well.
"Didn't realize my image shone so brightly, alright, let's make some tangible actions then. Are you outside? I'll come over and treat you to a drink."
"You should tell by my environment that I'm at home, still pretending generosity, so insincere!"
"Uh..."
"I'm not going out. Just say what you want, stop lingering." Wen Qianyi's voice carried a sleepy laziness before bedtime.
"Since you want me to treat you, just the work meal standard, it seemed overly polite. Felt bad about it, so I specially bought something to give you. Since you're at home, I'll come directly to find you!"
At this, Li Yan was already at Wen Qianyi's doorstep, knocking on the door.
"You're coming to find me? Oh no! It's already late!" Wen Qianyi hurried to decline, "Besides, I'm about to sleep too."
"It's fine. I'm just here to deliver something, not stay overnight, what's the problem? I've stayed over at your place before." Once familiar, subsequent visits feel natural!
