Chapter 257: Additional update 15
The soldiers on Borola's side had some real combat experience. These three gunners served as security consultants for the Clover Company and were all soldiers who had retired from the battlefield. They were not fully aware of the company's true nature, but the high salary and real firearms provided made them somewhat aware. However, it was the first time for the three gunners on duty today to encounter such intense conflict since joining.
The shooting of B triggered overwhelming negative emotions in them, making it difficult to stay calm. But at the same time, it awakened their reckless battlefield side; the death of a comrade ignited their passion, leading them to see Li Yan as a national enemy!
...
Standing, Li Yan found it inconvenient to leave the protective cover and approach them, but he didn't just aim idly. He frequently shifted the muzzles of his dual guns, shooting at the Clover personnel hiding under various desks.
Now that he was outside, his view and shooting range were much larger and better than when he was at the window inside. However, he still mostly had to shoot across the desk surface, relying on instinct to judge the vital areas. For him, whether there was just a grunt and no response or someone screamed, it was effective either way: it either incapacitated them or decreased their combat power. Most importantly, his target was to first eliminate those two professional-grade gunners.
As Li Yan fired shots in bursts, screams intensified. Gunners A and C could no longer restrain themselves. They felt as if they heard their comrade join the fight and exchanged a brief conversation in Borola language. They prepared themselves, and when Li Yan's own handgun ran out of bullets and he was changing magazines, A stood up to shoot aggressively, using his attack to cover his comrade C for a final killing blow!
Though Li Yan was reloading, he hadn't expended all the bullets in both guns. He had left bullets in the gun taken from Singer. When A stood up, Li Yan fired back faster!
He was confident about shooting exposed A, but he couldn't stop the incoming bullets in rapid fire, so after firing, he could only duck quickly. The exchange happened almost instantly; Li Yan's bullet hit A, but A's subsequent shots whistled right over Li Yan's freshly ducked head.
After a loud shout in Borola language, Li Yan could sense that the last gunner had gone berserk!
When the enemy goes crazy, he must become even more composed! This was always Li Yan's principle.
This last gunner would undoubtedly go all out to give the other gunman time and opportunity for a lethal strike!
Li Yan understood this well and had responded quickly. Whatever it was, he couldn't allow the opponent to succeed, not even give him a chance! Just as he could shoot others through the desk, the last gunner, once standing, could also keep shooting at his location, giving him a chance to be shot dead in a hail of bullets.
At this moment, with Borola's shouts ringing in his ears, his magazine was already loaded, and he tossed Singer's handgun into the air!
The Si Country had produced an assassin movie where the assassin impressively shot bullets along a curved path. Young Li Yan had once tried that out of boredom, proving in practice that while throwing a curved flying knife might be possible, making a bullet follow a curved trajectory was not.
However, not being able to shoot a curve didn't mean the bullet's direction couldn't be changed! Now, what he wanted to do was change the bullet's direction!
At this moment, Li Yan was almost completely oblivious to everything around him, reaching a state boldly known in legend as "zoning out," doing everything by skill, instinct, and sense, even relying on luck.
He flung the gun flat, aimed a few feet up, directing it toward the final gunner. At this point, he aimed his handgun at the airborne trigger guard and fired!
The bullet wasn't aimed at the trigger guard, but it pierced through the center, grazed at a slanting angle past the trigger hook!
The gunfire rang out, then another shot followed!
Kicked by the bullet's impact, the trigger hook pulled down, breaking immediately, and the handgun, due to gravity and bullet impact, fell but not before releasing a bullet thanks to the trigger pull!
Whether that shot hit the target was not something Li Yan could decide, as too many factors could affect the accuracy. But he wasn't counting on that ingenious shot to win; he needed it to suppress that gunner! Undoubtedly, whether the shot hit or not, it would force him to duck and evade.
Li Yan seized this fleeting opportunity to lift his gun and fire in the direction of the final gunner! And covered by the bullets, he stood up.
However, as he stood, he realized something was wrong. Neither the previous shot nor his current firing hit the last gunner, and the fatal strike from that person had already been launched—not bullets, but a hand grenade!
The hand grenade, a traditional land warfare weapon, features small size, light weight, great power, and ease of use, often used to damage small groups within thirty to forty meters. They divide by fire ignition into: pull-type, percussion, instantaneous, impact, and delayed impact. By purpose, they are divided into: hand-shrapnel, anti-tank, and special grenades.
Li Yan hadn't expected them to still have grenades, watching it being tossed into the air regardless of the triggering method, he had to immediately retreat!
Usually, soldiers use hand-shrapnel grenades designed to damage living targets, generally divided into two types: one relies mainly on fragments to kill, wielding a debilitating and destructive effect, usually weighing 300-600 grams, sometimes up to 1000 grams, with 300 to 1000 fragments, at most over 5000 fragments! With a delay fuse of 3-5 seconds, lethal radius of 5-15 meters. The other relies mainly on blast force to inflict damage, generally weighing 100-400 grams with a delay fuse around 4 seconds.
Li Yan didn't have time to ponder further, already bouncing up onto the desks, then rapidly hopping over several desks, sprinting towards the door at top speed!
As he departed at full throttle, Li Yan solved the last gunner who no longer cared about life with a casual shot.
The shrapnel kill range of grenades was too extensive, deploying it here could lead to collateral damage among all. Initially, it wasn't intended for use, only later, after B was shot by Li Yan, it sparked their battlefield memories, viewing Li Yan as a national enemy to destroy eagerly, and with scarce chances of killing him, choosing this mutually destructive, die-together approach was deemed viable.
From the grenade's delay till explosion, how many seconds did Li Yan have?
Five seconds?
Four seconds?
Three seconds?
Or two seconds?
No one knew, the other people hiding, not already shot by Li Yan or hit but not dead, didn't even know this happened. Li Yan himself had no time to calculate, performing acrobatically agile moves in a few strides, he had hurdled multiple desks, reached the company's door, and swiftly opened it!
The moment he opened the door, the grenade exploded!
The blast sound and force made Li Yan drop quickly to the hallway floor to avoid being hit by fragments.
A moment later, Li Yan rose. Re-entering Clover Company, the scene was in shambles, with fires starting, he rapidly moved inside amidst the smoke and fire, and although most were likely dead from grenade fragments, he ensured those he hadn't shot before, in rather remote areas, received a bullet.
At this point, Clover Organization's headquarters had become a wasteland, and Li Yan swiftly left, entering the safety stairwell, dressing up in a highly different set of clothing he'd previously prepared and placed, then blended out among the chaos, alarms, and evacuation of personnel by floor from the building, and as he left, it seemed Nasalas' police had already arrived with sirens sounding promptly.
Essentially, Clover Organization's decimation was completed, yet Li Yan had one last thing to confirm, for he hadn't been stealthily assassinating, needing assurance of no mistake in his target, openly knocking at the door. He dared to do so because Guan Ziyi had indicated he'd preemptively infiltrated the security management of this building and could delete today's surveillance footage.
