Chapter 107: The Only and The Best
Anna's expressions were dark, the dark sea was cold… it was covered in a miasma that seemed to slow her thoughts… and at the worst of it all, her head was full of voices.
'Elise is like this because of you!'
Voices of what she had lost already.
'And everyone will have the same end as her.'
Voices of what she can or will lose.
'You will lose again… you will never reach your goals.'
Voices of what could go wrong and what could lead to something irreversible.
'You are pushing them to their death for your goals.'
Voices which condemned her for her weakness.
'You can not even fight your own battles, how are you going to fight for him?'
Voices which criticised her for denying her trait… her power just for mere emotions.
'You who are scared of her own trait dare call yourself fatebound? '
The voices condemned her, but at the same time, they sang about the allure of letting go… to accept what she was running from…
'Why do you have to prove anything? Why do you have to care about anything or anyone?'
Anna belonged to a prominent family, but she never truly had any family. Her father was supposed to be the strongest Midnighther in the past 500 years, yet he was not here with her.
Her mother was in a coma for most of Anna's life. She did not even know about her until the day of Lilya's engagement party.
Her brother was one of the strongest Midnighther, yet he could not live a life worthy of one… Because the demon lord was chasing him.
Anna loathed her weakness, but she loathed being a burden the most. Damien would not have to care about the demon lord if she were not in his life…. If only she were not there, he could live a better life, a life where he would not have to keep running away.
After becoming a Midnigther, she had found what she wanted… a way to prove herself, a way to not be a burden and… at last a way to shoulder the burden weighing down on Damien.
But… once again, she was too weak to do anything, and she had used her weakness as an excuse, and she hated herself for that.
Even then, there was someone else she hated more… the demon lord… that person not only took her father away from her, but he dared to try and take away her brother.
Her life had become whatever it was now because of his goals… because of his desire to rule above all, to become an immortal… and Anna, she had promised herself to take his desires away from him just ike how he had taken her choices, her family and her freedom away from her.
As such thoughts churred and roamed in her head, the miasma spread as it slithered on her body…. Binding it to something much darker, much violent… it was trying to make her let go of her reasons, to let go of anything but her deepest darkest desires.
The dark foul miasma coiled around her body like a serpent, her skin was turning pale with each passing moment, and her expressions were turning much darker… much indifferent to whatever was happening around.
The miasma stopped her from thinking about where she was and what was going on; it only allowed her to think deeply about what was buried beneath her heart, her mind and her soul.
The time within the dark sea moved much faster as she did not know when breathing had become so hard, she did not know when she had forgotten the faces of everyone she considered the closest to her, she did not know when she had forgotten their voices, she did not know when she had forgotten what she had forgotten.
"Why are you still clinging to your mere morals and emotions?" A chilling voice reached her ears. Anna turned towards the voice and there stood a woman… she had long, starlight-like silver hair, her deep black eyes bored at everything in indifference. Her pale skin, however, appeared out of place.
Anna stood before herself as the other one looked at her in disgust…
Anieal, who was drifting in this cage of mind for so long, finally gave the other one some acknowledgement and asked.
"Who are you?"
The other one looked at her with indifference as her sharp, soul-chilling voice reached Anna's lips.
"I am the weaver, the weaver of fate."
Anna nodded at the other one's answer and asked.
"Where is your crown?"
The other one looked at Anna with puzzlement and asked.
"What do you mean?"
Anna heaved a sigh and replied.
"Are you not supposed to be the better, let alone best version of me? Then why do you have no crown? Did you fail to take away the desires of the demon lord?"
"What are you talking about?" The other one asked with a confused expression.
"I am going to take away everything he holds dear… even if it is his desires, I will take them away, and I will become a monarch, I will become an immortal, and I would do all of it just to spite him," Anna replied with a wide grin on her face.
The other one took a few steps upon seeing the crazy wide grin on Anna's face.
Anna walked towards her opponent, her heart demon, and her eyes glowed as golden threads began to materialise around her forearms.
"You can not be the best version of me, because I am the only and the best of myself," she added coldly as she commanded her golden threads to take the shape of a spear.
The threads moved and weaved themselves together to form a sphere. Anna gripped the spear and threw it at the other one before her.
The spear cut through the air as it flew towards the other one. It hit right at her chest before the illusion, and it broke into golden sparks. A few moments later, the miasma covering Anna vanished.
