Chapter 142: Clones
The next day, after returning from the library, Raze sat inside his room, and inside with him were Ella, Gavin, Fey, and Elaine. He had called each of them to come and have a little talk.
"So what's the issue?" Ella asked. She sat at his desk chair facing him, yet Gavin stood with their backs against the wall and Elaine sat beside him.
"Well, what I called you here for is somewhat unexpected and really a lot to take in, in my essence," he said, then looked at them, scanning their faces one after the other.
"Ribest is about to become something else," he stated. The way he phrased it made them worried instantly.
"What's going on?" Elaine asked. "Did something happen?"
"No, not really, it's just there are things that I'm about to start doing in Ribest that are going to take a different direction. So far we have been developing and moving at a pretty good pace, but it's too slow for me."
"Huh?" they all said, shocked.
"What do you mean slow? You revamped the entire town's houses in only a few weeks, bright roads, and also a flow of minerals and more," Elaine said, evidently confused by what he meant.
"And that's not enough," Raze said with a soft smile. "A lot of crazy things are about to start happening, and as closest team, y'all will have to adapt to them quick," Raze said.
"I don't think there is much you can do to shock us anymore," Ella said.
Raze looked at her and then slowly shook his head with a smile. He got up from his bed and stood at the center of the room.
"What I'll show you now, I wanted you to understand that you can't ask a lot of questions about it," he said, and then suddenly split into two. A clone of him stood right beside him.
The sight of this shocked them instantly, their eyes pinned on the second Raze, an exact copy of him.
"What the hell?" Gavin asked in shock and confusion.
"This is a clone of me, having my memories and experience, my attention and everything. It also has its own core, which means it can exist as a natural being of its own, just connected to me, so it's basically me," Raze explained.
Fey frowned when he saw this, and then he spoke. "A clone is a bad idea." They all looked at him, wondering why he said that.
"I have met beings that master all magic, including soul magic, and were capable of summoning clones like this. But more often than not, the clones that are as powerful as the original self tend to kill the original, or try to, in order to take his place," he explained, shaking his head slowly. "It's never a good thing to make clones as powerful and intelligent as you."
"Oh, no no no, that's not going to happen here," Raze said in confidence, and then walked back to the bed to sit down, allowing the clone to continue. It stepped in and started speaking.
"You see, the way my cloning works is extremely delicate and detailed, something specially crafted for me. Each clone is like an extension of me and yet its own being.
The clone doesn't believe itself to be one of me, but rather still me, just in two parts," he said.
"Then wouldn't that cut your power in half?" Ella asked.
"Yes, normally to have me in two different parts means I'm literally half inside the body, but no, there is only one thing that's half when I make a clone—it's my soul.
Right now, my soul exists as one, but in both bodies, meaning that my clone is carrying half of my soul, which, when you think about it, means my clone isn't fully me then—but it is. There is more to the logic, but all I'm saying is that both of us are completely me.
Now you might be wondering, why do I want this? Well, it's because it will help me in ways I desperately need help, like reading and all that.
Either way, this is one of the many new and abnormal things you'll be seeing from now on. And on that note," he said and then looked at Elaine, "Elaine, can you and Ella help me draft a contract for the people? We are going to be getting into a new development—hehe, farming. I've realized this place lacks a crazy amount of ingredients and food I want, so I'll plant them," he said with a smile on his face.
"I thought your main aim was defense now?" Ella asked.
"Yeah yeah, that's top of the list, but what good is a home if I can't eat good food from it?" he asked.
"I agree on that," Fey said, nodding.
Knock! Knock!
"Young master Raze, the Queen, Her Majesty, Lady Rose, and your father the baron are in the office asking for you," a heavy voice cut through the door and reached Raze. Immediately his eyes shot to the door. "The Queen? What the hell? Why is she here?" he asked in a low tone and then got up. "Alright, that's enough for now."
After unsummoning the clone, he walked to the door and opened it. Outside was one of his father's knights. He followed the knight while the others left the room.
"Tsk, I knew she was going to come after what happened in that town. I wished only Lady Rose would, but the Queen had to come as well.
Why does she have so much free time on her hands? Is she stalking me? I don't want a royal stalk, because she'll start looking into shit she isn't supposed to. Arghh, I hate that there are people I still need to be cautious about. I need to move faster," Raze thought as he walked down the halls.
They finally made it to the door. The knight bowed slightly and walked away. Raze knocked on the door twice and walked in, but rather than just three figures, there were five. He wasn't informed of the other two.
